    My family grew up 30 min from Disneyland I would love to find all their Disney photos from back in the day! My dad said his parents use to go in the 50s when Walt would be walking around the parks! Insane! Love to hear the Disney history and my family! My grandpa went behind the scenes of Disney when he sold frames and photos for Disneyland’s beginning of the grad nights!

    Your GPs must of lived right down the street from me. I watched them build the park and was there when it opened. We never thought of it as a big deal when you went as many times as we did. So many memories of the place as a kid and I have some Disney memorabilia from back then too.

    Justin, thank you. You said out loud my very own feelings of why Disneyland is home for me. I was raised less than a mile from Disneyland and my brother’s first Disneyland was on the Chicken of the Sea Pirate Ship prior to becoming a Jungle Cruise Skipper. All the rest of my orange groved Anaheim is different but Uncle Walt’s Park holds the magical spell of Home for me. I retired July 2017 and bought my first ANNUAL PASS! I drive or find cheap,fights to spend a week every couple months at Disneyland. You are the best at capturing and explaining the magic that is our Home. Thank you. Let’s support Randomland by supporting Justin Scarred on his Patreon site. Just a buck or two from us, the folks who enjoy and thrive on his WORK will insure he can make more Randomland Adventures🤙🏻💕😎

    Oh wow. I've been to D-Land all my life since the 1970's and could have sworn the carousel, tea cups and Dumbo had changed then thought, "naw, it must be the Mandella effect", but you have finally revealed (solved) a problem I've thought about for years. Thanks!!

  • @hiridavidfeign
    @hiridavidfeign 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Fascinating. I totally understand your feelings about the older Disneyland. It will always be the place where history was made, and where Walt and his team worked out the plans from scratch. It's very cool that you have a family history to connect with that.Thanks Justin.

    my earliest fantasyland memories are from around 1967,so i remember a lot of what you showed. eating at the pirate ship was a must do every time we went to disneyland. seeing the inside where you got your food took me back instantly. i remember they put little plastic swords in the sandwiches (a no no today) instead of toothpicks.

    Awww, this is so sentimental! You're one lucky guy to have a Disney family history, my parents are the only ones who started our Disney trips in the 90s (which I'm thankful for of course) but it would've been super cool to compare pre-90s photos and videos to our modern ones!

    Your passion is apparent - that IS super cool being able to see your grandparents' photos. I was a kid when Fantasyland was closed on a visit or two due to reconstruction (in elementary school). I remember my Disneyland map with Fantasyland showing a Mickey Mouse with a toolbelt, with the map saying "New Fantasyland, coming in 1983".
    I dug the Chicken Of the Sea Ship photos. As a teenager, I'd find myself wondering where the boat was, wondering if I'd imagined it. This was great! (in my memory / pieced together imagination, it was located between the castle and the current rocket location - this cleared it up!).

    The old Fantasyland seems like just yesterday for me. That "dead end" wall with the posters not only had pay phones on the left, but also a cigarette machine on the right, next to the snack bar. My dad got his cigarettes there, right in the shadow of Dumbo. I remember trying to figure out the "Ye Olde Bill of Fare" calculated "to the nearest mill" at the snack bars. The snack bars were strictly hamburgers, fries, chips and sodas. A bag of Fritos had the Disneyland logo, not only in the park, but also at the local grocery store at home. The second identical snack bar was located on the footprint of today's Mad Hatter. The old Mad Hatter was next to Peter Pan. People certainly complain of crowds today, but the crowding was horrific all day between Peter Pan and the carousel. Since the move of the carousel and the Mad Hatter, and the removal of the second snack bar, that area seems much better today.

    An enormous THANKS A MILLION for sharing those great nostalgic pictures. This really hits home with me, since I grew up in SoCal and went to Disneyland regularly starting in 1959 when I was five, and remember that it was a lot different than it is now. The "tuna boat" as my sister and I used to call the Chicken of the Sea Pirate Ship restaurant really brings back memories, since we ate there every time we went to Disneyland. I recently watched a youtube video that featured some of the old Disneyland restaurants that are now gone, and the tuna boat was shown being totally demolished, very depressing to see. Your pictures of the pirate ship in its heyday absolutely made up for that. I have seen and enjoyed a lot of your videos and this tops them all. Also, it was interesting to see that your aunt looks like she might be my age. (I assume that your mother wasn't born yet when those pictures were taken.)
