I have not caught a RedHorse Sucker on the Fly Rod yet, but I caught plenty of them growing up. I spent a lot of time fishing with worms for whatever would bite. In the Kishwaukee river in northern Illinois. Now after some cleanup, it is a prime smallmouth bass river.
Sweet Lee! Yeah the sucker was definitely a surprise! I’m surprised I don’t catch more of them really. I see a ton of them. Sounds like I may have to chase some bass down there next summer!

I use 4 pound tippet. I think there may be a defect with that section or I had caught too many fish with it already in the past months. Or maybe it was my delicate hook set as Mike said in the comments! 😂
Yep it does happen, but that wasn’t a huge fish. I have caught a ton of trout with this rod over the past months so with all the fish and big hook sets it’s bound to happen. DT got me a new section in a week! Thanks for the comment Michael!

It's always surprising to me that that section of the creek fishes as well as it does. It must get hammered but it's typically pretty productive.
Yeah! I tried it after dinner one night and nothing really. I just think there are a ton in there.
