I liked The Pumpkin Spice cafe. I hated Cinnamon Bun Bookstore and The Christmas Tree Farm. The characters annoyed me soooo much. I gave those last two, two stars each.
i have such an odd relationship with laurie gilmore for me ‘the pumpkin spice cafe’ was a two star i thought it was awful but i really like ‘the cinnamon bun bookstore’ but then dnfed the christmas one 😭
Controversially disappointing book for me was Gideon thr Ninth. The way you were reacting to An Academy for Liars was similar to the way I felt about Gideon - so many questions! I feel my blood pressure go up every time I think about that book! 😂
Most disappointing reads for me in ‘24 were The Last Murder at the End of the World by Stuart Turton and A Tempest Of Tea by Hafsah Faizal. Not sure why they were both 5* predictions, and they ended up more like 1.5/2 😕
I mean, I haven't read the previous series from LJ Andrews at allll and thought there was plenty of world-building. It's a bummer you thought otherwise because the book is absolutely amazing.
Also, also ; dub-con = dubious consent, which is usually to mean sex when one of the people or both are under the influence. non-con = non-consensual sa. they're fanfiction terms /grumbles about how some tropes should've stayed in the fanfiction world.
I did read Academy for Liars. The last 50 pages were intense. But the rest of the book was not great. No one was likable, everyone smoked, and I wasn’t invested in the romance. Loved the magic system and concept, but just not this book.
Cinnamon Bun Book Store failed to grip me at all, I just did not care for the couple it was super forgettable imo. Christmas Tree Farm was better but in all honesty I think I’m leaving the series there.
I loved The Lighthouse Witches and The Nesting by C.J Cooke but was disappointed by The Ghost Woods (which is her highest rated one, I don't trust Goddreads ratings). I wouldn't describe any of her books as Horror, they are more like Gothic Thriller. They have fantastical elements but they are certainly not horror. I only read Elantris and Mistborn Era I by Sanderson : I loved Elantris and the Final Empire but the rest of the trilogy went down hill for me (hated book 3), I have no interest in picking up Era 2 of Mistborn. I will try the Stormlight Archives. I was so let down by The Year of the Witching by Alexis Henderson (I found it so boring despite having all of the elements that I love) that I'm never picking up any of her books again.

The male narrator in My December Darling was bloody awful! Who the hell talks like that?? 😂
