It finally came to me why I enjoy the channel so much I see the relationship between Eric & Jason and wish I had a close friend who had a common interest in personal finance. Enjoy gentlemen what you have is special.
I have one close friend and a family member who we engage like Eric and Jason. I'm going to retire early first in a few years, but the trusted partners to bounce ideas and get honest feedback can't be beat. I love this channel, I've gotten so much valuable retirement insight. In a world where everyone is out to sell you something, this is the magic! Rock on!
This was another great video! Loved the overall topic of the 2023 summary and 2024 goals and everything in between. I'm excited for Eric as his FI number is in view and I really hope he and Laura jump when the time comes! Thank you for sharing your conversations!
new video - awesome! I only discovered you guys this month coming across the explainer video for ERN's planner sheet. Since 4th Jan I think I've watched 57 of your videos...Working out the time that constitutes is a little scary but just wanted to say a massive thanks for the content you guys are making. It's been so valuable seeing so much discussion about the elements to FIRE other than purely saving / investing / withdrawal info.
You're never too old to learn something new, which fits in with having a purpose in retirement, or semi-retirement. I am also learning a new language, which I hope fits in with future travel plans. Keep learing because you never know what will be helpfull 5 or 10 years down the road - or could be turned into income if your future self runs into difficult times.
The more I listen to y'all more we have in common. I just turned 50 this year. I did one trip per quarter last year. 3 weeks in Mexico. 2 weeks in Puerto Rico two times, and a month in Spain to scout for a place to live in retirement. And I keep saying I'm going to write more but I haven't done it. 😅
Another great show. Jason- I hope you are well- with those mentioned medical expenses. As I hope to RE either this year or early 2025- it would be great to have an episode on tax planning around roth conversions and keeping your ACA subsidy. This is the part I am struggling with the most regarding the next chapter of my life.
Do the list! We have been retired 10 years. We had traveled a huge amount while still employed, but lost our way when kids hit college and parents aged.A list could have kept us on track!
Jason, you are so darn smart that it’s crazy, good guy also. Eric, you are so darn entrepreneurial that it’s crazy, good guy also. Great entertainment and educational, keep it going strong in 24!
New listener and love the content. I am 42 and working incredibly hard and remaining focused towards FI within the next 5-6 years. My one big question I am having a hard time conceptualizing is withdraws in up markets vs down markets. I understand the up market sell off and withdraw. I’ve also understood in “down” markets having a cash reserve and withdrawing from that bucket vs selling in a down market. How would you define a down market? Would you set the goal line of the market number as the “normal” and if below that numbers it’s considered down? I’m trying to conceptualize 3-6 years down the road and 6-12 years and 12-18 years the market will go up and down and want to better understand how you annualize what a “down” market is compared to what and your withdraw strategy from assets vs cash bucket. I’m sure you have a video on it. Love the show!
Hey lads. One of you should wear a white tee shirt and the other black one. Like your motif. One representing RE and the other representing pre RE. Enjoy the channel
Great episode guys! Do either one of you see yourselves using geographic arbitrage to expatFIRE even part time? And if so, which countries interest you?
Is there anything other than completing the form boxes at your website needed to get the rebalance spreadsheet? I’ve filled it out - haven’t seen a response yet - Tia
Eric and Jason, how are you incorporating the spiritual dimension of your FIRE journey. I'm a follower of Jesus and want to honor him in my FIRE journey. Any thoughts are appreciated.
I disagree. I just see two friends using eachother to gutcheck their approaches and keep themselves accountable. I don't see any competitive behaviour or language.
What lessons did you learn in 2023 - financial or otherwise? Let us know here!

Ha...too funny...
I sent you an email a few days ago, Jeff...would love to share your story on 2SFI!

I did mine! now waiting for Lorri to do hers :) What's the most valuable lesson you've learned in 10 years of being retired? -Jason
Love it! Thanks for doing these guys!

Happy 2024! Glad to see a finish line in sight for Eric… just resist the urge to move the goal posts😂
Did your FI number increase with the inflation rate?
Great conversation on your FI checkups!
thanks for sharing, a lot of good points mentioned that could be used for following videos 😁😬🤣
You mentioned the backdoor roth in the episode, I understand the concept but not the actual step by step mechanics.....video topic maybe:)
Bonne année fièrement du Québec! Éric Tremblant, Québec🌲☃️

Enjoy the channel
Not sure I have heard anybody use the word bolus as much as Eric does 😁. This was a very cool episode. Glad things are chugging along for y'all.
Glad you liked it! I think 'bolus' is a great word as well. Cheers, Jason

Why not prioritize the 457b? It’s perfectly built for early retirement. Bad investment choices?
Choices aren’t great and the terms of separation in the plan aren’t favorable given our projected tax situation. Taxable brokerage FTW

Drop us a note on twosidesoffi.com if you're having issues with that and we'll take care of it!
What vehicle did u buy
4Runner (no wittle wadder tho)
Will the return of the ACA subsidy cliffs in 2025 affect you at all in your plans?
I think I'll be OK but i'll assess again when it comes time to renew. -Jason

The poorly concealed competitivess between the two of you is hilarious.
I disagree. I just see two friends using eachother to gutcheck their approaches and keep themselves accountable. I don't see any competitive behaviour or language.
You're both right :) any competition is healthy but we are also holding each other accountable because we earnestly care about the other's success! -J
Just chose a job you love instead of living this Excel life…
