*Hey everyone! Hope you enjoy this how to video! I also make a dehydrated stir fry and chili and am working on other delicious dehydrated meals. Expect more of these in the future as I come up with some new recipes! Share this video with anyone you know that camps and buys those store bought meals!*
Matthew Posa what change the subject and say you could get one of those drones and hook a camera to it and take pictures of Ariel camera and show things that you can do either with such a deal
Good vid and very informative about keeping the meal from going rancid! Watch that west nile virus, heard it was found in Marquette county now. Dam skeeters!
You are so likable because you're not trying to be anyone but yourself! Just grabbing handfuls of cold pasta and dumping stuff into Tupperware on the floor. I love it
Hi! I Love your channel because I would NEVER do that kind of camping on my own, but its all so fascinating to watch! I love Monty !! So look, I'm a chef and I've had to make tons of taco beef and coney island sauce over the years and I have a tip you might find useful to get your ground beef oil free and in the smallest bits ever!! So instead of "Browning" your beef, if you want you can put the ground beef in a pot like the one you have for the sauce, break up the raw ground beef in the pot, cover with cold water, and then SQUEEZE the ground beef with/ thru your fingers in the water until all big chunks are gone and what you have left looks like a ground beef "pudding". Put it on a med high heat and let come to a rolling boil then turn it down to low. Continually stir to make sure no chunks form while cooking. When all the meat is no longer pink, turn off pot-drain in strainer, rinse with cold water to break up any more chunks and rinse off any remaining oil. The result should be some extra fine crumbles and no oil!! It may sound like more work but it isn't really and it will give you what you are looking for. You can even do big batches of ground beef this way and put in Ziploc bags in the freezer for not only your spaghetti, but Chili, Nachos, Tacos, sloppy joes, coney sauce-anything you want to use fine, crumbled ground beef in! Enjoy!!
this video has so much eldritch energy to it. The spaghetti fisting, the part where he pours spaghetti and sauce into tupperware on the floor next to his dogs....it's perfect.
I'm a truck driver I just might start doing dehydration myself.prepackaged is so high in salt.i have to watch my bp.salt is a no no.thx for the tip.mathew.
Im a life long vegetarian and have been looking for dehydrated food for Moto camping. The first thing I noticed was the salt in all the pre made stuff also most of it is awful. Im going to have to try this And the dehydrator will actually get used for something other than trim. I love how he did so many things my girlfriend would yell at me for doing in the kitchen.
Tip for anyone who wants to repeat this: Dehydrators are one of the kitchen items that people look at after a few years of collecting dust in their kitchen and put on Craigslist/Ebay for pretty cheap. This will save you some buck and also help the environment.
With that volume of add-ins, I’d suggest ditching the canned sauce. A couple of large cans of san marzano tomatoes (or really any canned tomatoes you have) crushed up with a tablespoon or two of olive oil and you’re golden. No extra effort beyond crushing, which can be done by hand in a few seconds. You’ll get a fresher-tasting sauce for the same effort. Unless, of course, you like the Hunts, then by all means... Thanks for the dehydration technique. I’ve never thought about taking spaghetti camping. I’ll add it to the menu, thanks to you.
Before putting spaghetti in the ziploc bags, flip the top down just 1/2 inch from top, then fill. Flip back up and seal. Shouldn't spill nothing on table. Love watching y'all....
Just want to say thank you!! for not only showing how you dehydrate you food but HOW you hydrate your food to eat it. Too many folks show only half of the process.
My first dehydrator was a present from my brother, several trays with a lightbulb on top. It worked but was a little uneven. Man, that was 40 yrs ago! Ha! Can’t believe how I used to do ramen for just about every meal... I was in a rush on a Friday night to get away from work and out to the wilderness. Now it’s so good to make my own! Yay!
Thank you for taking the time to make this video. I’m making spaghetti sauce for dehydrating as I write. I’m going to serve it in about a month when family comes to visit. It will be a TEST, so I’ll let you know what they think. I drained the ground beef, but did NOT wash off the fat. My reasoning is that A: it’s very lean and B: I’ll be keeping it in the freezer until serving it. Fat takes a while to go rancid so I don’t think it will be a problem...and it adds flavor. I used an open bottle of Prego and added fresh tomatoes from my garden. It’s good and soupy!! Will dehydrate tomorrow after the sauce has mixed with the pasta. But not near my dog...as there would be nothing left to put in the dehydrator!! I’ll be back with the family’s critique next month!
Thank you for the video I just started dehydrated my food getting ready for camping trip I haven't took my first camping trip yet I'm 60 years old always wanted to do it and I'm going to do it I really am I got all my packing gear just about all of it but I should be ready for when winter gets here and I am going to do it I promise myself anyway thanks for the tips I'm doing that now God bless have a great day
The meals you cook while camping always look so amazing and deliciously satisfying. Definitely going to try out your recipes. Immediate smile when Monty waltzed in at 20 seconds.
If everyone doesn't know, if you cut the root out of the onion first it will not make your eyes water, and if use a smaller knife for cutting up stuff and keep the butcher knives for cutting open bison and bears, it also goes easier..
I've been giving this some thought because the prepackaged meals are quite expensive in the UK, and using your DIY method you get larger, fresher portions which are prepared and cooked to your personal preference. And it saves a ton of money! Thank you for making this video.
Looks good! On another video, a viewer said that to help get the hamburger into gravel like size, add one quarter cup of water per pound to the hamburger while it is frying in the pan. She said it is an old trick from the south. 👍
i was thinking of buying a dehydrator to make emergency food for the lockdowns to feed my family and i needed a good beginners recipe, and your video has inspired me to go through with it. thank you matt. my family will live another day,
Gotta say thanks again Matthew - Took this with me on my first BWCA trip last year and it was a hit (I was solo) and as I write this I have another batch in the dehydrator that's going with my son and me in 4 weeks back to the BWCA.
Matt your video diversity is awesome. Just keep doing what you’re doing… It’s awesome. Thanks for the consistent therapeutic entertainment. I truly can’t thank you enough. I’m always always always looking for more so keep up the good work and thank you again.
That's the first "cooking show" I've watched from start to finish. Your spaghetti always looks so good when you're eating it, and you obviously enjoy eating it so much! I enjoyed watched the process to making your dehydrated spaghetti. Thanks for sharing.
to help make the ground meat smaller, if you stir it with a bunch of water when it's raw, then cook it and stir frequently, you can more easily break it up into small pieces. add maybe 1/2 to 1 cup of water per pound of raw meat. the proteins will absorb a little water and swell up, making it easier to stir and breakup. also, if you let the meat cool in the fridge, in a pool of water, the fat should rise to the top and you can just skim it off, instead of losing all that beef flavor in the sink.
Great Video Matt....can't wait to try this! I'm glad you showed the entire process from cooking, dehydrating and then re-cooking! Keep on Keeping on Brother!!
Thanks Matthew. My favorite dehydrated camp meal is spaghetti with great sauce. So funny how for years in my early camping days I’d dehydrate the sauce in the oven and then bring the pasta separately to cook in camp. Duh! Would love to see more of your camp meals!
Love homemade dehydrated spaghetti! I use rotini noodles instead though. Nothing to cut up and they tend to not poke through the bag. I also make a dehydrated chili using macaroni noodles. So good. Can't wait to see your other cooking vids!
That's not a bad idea! We usually use rice in our chili but I may swap over to macaroni. We make a stir fry that is really good. I hope to turn chicken riggies into one soon.
I very much enjoyed this episode. I have a dehydrator someone got me for Christmas about five years ago. It’s still in the box. I think I’ll break it out today. We are basically vegan, but I do have a good spaghetti recipe I can try this on. Also, your colander is the exact same one I grew up with. It took me back to the 60s and 70s. It didn’t even occur to me to dehydrate spaghetti. I wanted to dehydrate lemon peels to make a lemon flavoring since we don’t use pepper, and lemon pepper has pepper in it. But I like the lemon flavors. I’ve learned I can make many other kinds of seasonings with a dehydrator too. I guess I’d better start dehydrating. Thanx for making the vid!
Hey just wanted to follow up on my comment below re: boyfriend making spaghetti for Algonquin. It was a HUGE success! He and his girls loved it and he said definitely Letting it sit overnight was key...and lots of sauce! However, a bear climbed a tree and got their packs, and he didn't not care for the spaghetti so luckily left it alone. He prefered the prepacked dehydrated food. (Everyone is fine, except my knapsack I lent them... :/ )
Good stuff , interesting and informative.Seeing Monty and Ruger lining up behind the big Spaghett bowl and hoping for the best was a cute side note to the presentation.
I just showed your video to my bf who is going backwoods camping with his daughters in Algonquin next week and he's excited to make this today! He's going to try tuna casserole as well.
Tip: use a potato masher to break up the beef while browning. Obviously metal would damage a good nonstick Teflon pan so use a plastic masher or uncoated pan.
Universal sauce...a little bit of that, some of this, a bunch of that and 2 tablespoons of everything except these two and always mix all ingredients on floor when done... Perfection!!! You’re the best Matt thank you.
I'm making this for my next trip in a couple of weeks. I dehydrated down a bunch of ingredients and made Guinness stew last time. Rehydrate the ingredients with Guinness and a stock cube and simmer for ages.
Awesome! You can also do the same thing with chili mac and stir fry. Chili mac do everything the same besides ingredients. Stir fry, just use rice and ground chicken and make it extra saucy. I will post videos for these eventually. That sounds great! Never thought of doing the things separate for stew purposes. I may just have to try that!
Border Collie was eyeing up that pot of spaghetti. Really cool idea! I have used my dehydrator for the purposes of jerky and fruit but never thought about preparing meals.
If I could make a suggestion with the mushrooms. I think you should add them when you sautee the other veggies (onions, peppers). This will extract the moisture from them as mushrooms are very watery and intensify the flavor.
Good job on the videos. I have a suggestion. I buy the rolls instead of bags for the vacuum sealer and make an inner and outer bag. That way there is less chance of the food puncturing the outer bag. When I put the inner bag inside the outer bag, I make sure the texture is on opposite sides so all of the air is vacuumed out like it should. Also make sure the inner bag is shorter than the outer bag so it is only sealing the outer bag. I've never had a problem with doing it this way.
This one was very well done. I feel like I am watching a cable tv show when I watch your videos its great! Thanks for all the effort you put in to bring us quality content!
This was so exciting. Was anxiously awaiting this video. We love heat such as cayenne in our spaghetti too. Thank you so much for making and filming the process.
Freaking awesome! I love the fact you did everything the way folks would do it at home. Tons of respect that you didn't do an "InstaTuber" production. Thank you!!👍🏻
Awesome! You did a great job explaining everything! I might add a little more of the vegetables, maybe fresh garlic. Like your idea of rinsing the meat. Thanks !
Greetings. Great video, thanks. One suggestion, I drain and rinse all ground beef after cooking, before final rinse I drain into collander into a bowl, you can buy cheap collanders that sit in matching bowl designed for this or improvise. Then let it sit, scoop off excess grease and toss in trash, then I pat dry the ground beef to get off as much residual grease before rinsing. You don’t want all that grease clogging up your drains, that’ll make store bought meals look cheap.
Thanks for the info, I would never have thought about washing off the fat first, Oh well you learn something new everyday. Love your vids, watch you as much as I do Joe R.
Spaghetti is my #1 favourite food. Could eat it every day. Once did so for 1 meal per day for a year straight. Currently researching backpacking ideas. Your video is a how-to video for my dream come true. Thorough step-by-step instructions brilliantly done. Will be buying a dehydrator specifically for this purpose. Looking forward to my next camping/hiking trip.
That was seriously very helpful, you explained every last damn detail lol. You should definitely do more cooking at home, it seems we have the same tastes in food....and like the same portion sizes 😅
I loved your video. At some points, I thought I was going to fall over laughing. I think if my kids saw me preparing pasta and sauce on the floor with 2 (beautiful) dogs, they would have thought Mom lost her mind. But your video was delightful. I dehydrated spaghetti a few weeks ago but cheated and used Rao's sauce. I found later (and I should have checked first) there is olive oil in the sauce. Next time, I'm going to prepare my own sauce, no oil. I think I'll use it when I have time to cook some chicken to add when I rehydrate. I don't camp so much anymore but with prices rising like they are, I'm totally into dehydrating everything now. Again, loved your video. I was able to break my pasta in half. It turned o ut GREAT!! Even crushing it into 'spaghetti-o's', they're still going to poke through your freezer bags. I dehydrated and put it in freezer bags and just broke into one of the bags last week. I added meat balls and enjoyed every bite! Your video is very plain, understandable and easy to follow! (You remind me of my son!) Happy camping! Love Upper Michigan! Spent 8 wonderful years there. "Someplace special" !
I must admit I FF past the "making spaghetti" part. Next frame I see a man on all 4s stirring spaghetti in a Tupperware container with 2 dogs looking over his shoulder. Lol. Exciting times! 👌🐹👍
Matt and Funk, I know you guys hunt deer like I do. I have not bought ground beef in years because I use ground deer. It is extremely lean if you don't add the little bit of fat from the deer to it. Actually, my brother's cardiologist won't let him have anything but chicken, fish, and venison. It would be so much healthier and cheaper with the ground venison, and I guarantee that you can't taste the difference since it's cooked with a sauce. Friends who don't like the taste of venison have even said they can't taste any difference from ground beef. Since you hunt anyway, just try it. I bet you'll like the taste and the benefits too!!!
Great job Matthew! Informative and great instructions. You speak to the home cook in all of us with your loose and easy cooking style. Btw, those are the most generous "tablespoons" I have ever seen. LOL
That's how I make my spaghetti. I even use a little brown sugar. I don't rinse the meat because I don't dry it but I may targeting a batch. That would be good when you need a quick lunch or dinner at home too. Yum
Your video is amazing and informative, start with preparing the meet and vegetables -------->cooking gourmet spaghetti and beautiful and tasty sauce (love that mouth watering cooked pasta sauce) ------------> "How to Dehydrate!!" and finally preparing the spaghetti in the wood when you are camping, is a complete series of "How to". Thanks for sharing, now I know how to prepare my food for hiking & camping, no more processed food.
I tapped on this after watching the first part of your Montana trip with Jake the Ski guy and I wondered what you were cooking and then you said you would do a video on how to make it and I went looking. Monty and Reugs sniffing around lol. Entertaining and never a time waster watching your videos. In fact it's like meditation with not to little, not too much but just the right amount of Budda belly giggles.
*Hey everyone! Hope you enjoy this how to video! I also make a dehydrated stir fry and chili and am working on other delicious dehydrated meals. loving them mate should well be a weekly video type of thing :D
Matthew Posa what change the subject and say you could get one of those drones and hook a camera to it and take pictures of Ariel camera and show things that you can do either with such a deal
I thoroughly enjoyed this video!! Great job... I’m looking forward to more like this 😀
Matthew Posa Thanks for sharing recipe!!!! I will try it out . Looks yummy! Say woof woof to montey and rueger! 🐶🐕🤣🍝🍝🍝🍝🍝Hi to funk! 😎
Good vid and very informative about keeping the meal from going rancid! Watch that west nile virus, heard it was found in Marquette county now. Dam skeeters!
This man just made a giant pot of spaghetti with a white t-shirt and not a single stain. 👍👍👍
More sauce on the stove...which makes this truly spectacular! Finally a REAL tutorial!!
Right? its why hes fearless alone in the woods!
You know, i might not have paid such close attention if I hadn't seen your comment, but he clearly gets some splash action around 10:23

You are so likable because you're not trying to be anyone but yourself! Just grabbing handfuls of cold pasta and dumping stuff into Tupperware on the floor. I love it

I'm not going to see how many negative comments there were about that but I think he didn't have counter space left lol.

never heard of Coney sauce. But my uncle makes a lot of "Michigan sauce", sounds pretty similar. Good stuff
"It looks good, it smells good, but does it feeeel good?"
Proceeds to SHOVE hand into the pasta 🤣 this guy is gold.
Most importantly is that it feels good... I always do the good ol fisting of sketti
Jennifer Harris 😂😂😂....100% gold!
That is absolutely disgusting.
it was a grosss moment, literally went straight to comments. i cant be the only one, yuck lol.
this video has so much eldritch energy to it.
Cardamom, it’s better for bp than bp meds and doesn’t give you side effects.
Yea, I could probably go plain and spice it myself!
Before putting spaghetti in the ziploc bags, flip the top down just 1/2 inch from top, then fill. Flip back up and seal. Shouldn't spill nothing on table. Love watching y'all....
I don't usually watch 27 minutes video's but your style is easy to listen to. Thanks
I watched at 2x speed, and it was still great!
Just want to say thank you!! for not only showing how you dehydrate you food but HOW you hydrate your food to eat it. Too many folks show only half of the process.
You're welcome!
Translation... tablespoons = half cup
Haha Yep, that’s what I was thinking.
Exactly what I want to say lol
Teaspoons = Quarter Cup
I don't camp and I'm a cat person. But I'm loving that you are like the Chris Pratt of camping. Keep it up man!
Awesome! Will do!
Your dog is amazingly chill about such tasty food just right next to him.
That dog is totally stoned hence the mild behavior.
your dogs are incredibly well trained! mine def. would have taken a bite to try it out lol
Hahaha!
I specially like Monty.
I’m so glad you included a clip of using it at the end! I just got a 10 tray cabelas dehydrator and am going to do some frozen peas and corn today.
Yay!
That's definitely old school! Yea it's the best!
This is SO much better than taking a whole cooler of food when camping!!! :)
Your dogs are absolutely adorable. Thank you for sharing this recipe with us.
Ha, that's a new one, no pinch for you, go for the "good chunk". Love it!

Fantastic process survival food
Great video from ingredients to camp meal 🥘 yum

im curious john did you end up going camping finally???
yeah! did you do it?
@JohnMcKenzie, we all hope you got to go camping!
The meals you cook while camping always look so amazing and deliciously satisfying. Definitely going to try out your recipes. Immediate smile when Monty waltzed in at 20 seconds.
I don't camp anymore, I just want to make your spaghetti recipe without the dehydration. Looks so yummy on your wonderful videos. Thanks for sharing.
Everyone's just gonna ignore the way this man dices onions?
And peppers

This is quality camping food. I’ve been looking forever for good camping food. I’m glad I found you.
I'm going to make this for sure. Cheers Matt!
TIP: fold up a tea towel to fit under your chopping board. Stops it moving all over the place :)
Sounds good! Not a bad idea!

Gotta say thanks again Matthew - Took this with me on my first BWCA trip last year and it was a hit (I was solo) and as I write this I have another batch in the dehydrator that's going with my son and me in 4 weeks back to the BWCA.
Try trimming out the white pithy bits from the peppers. It make them less bitter tasting! Great video.
That's what I thought. I always remove em.

Nice job. I can see why you like your pasketti so much when your camping. Looks fantastic!!
I made this for my backcountry motorcycle trip August 2019... just had one of my leftovers last week (June 2020). Still great!

I'm amazed you add cayenne but that's cool. Thanks for the instruction
Thank you! Always wondered how you guys dehydrated food
This video was fantastic! I need a playlist of other recipies!!!! 🙏🙏🙏
If I could make a suggestion with the mushrooms. I think you should add them when you sautee the other veggies (onions, peppers). This will extract the moisture from them as mushrooms are very watery and intensify the flavor.
I love this video cause most people don't show you how to rehydrate it too !
Definitely rinse the fat out of the meat. Carry some olive oil to add to meal when rehydrating to eat. Rinsing does not affect protein, just fat.
Those are wel-behaved dogs! I salute both your cooking and your dog handling skills.
Great video! I just purchased a dehydrator and this looks very easy and interesting to try. Hilarious how you man handled that spaghetti!
I've never had a problem with doing it this way.
why am I even watching this, I don't even go outside

What a great comment! Hysterical!
Dude awesome video. I love seeing you cook and eat on your trips and I have used a lot of your food ideas. I’m the permanent chef for camping now lol.
thanks for the informative video, for some strange reason I've got this strong craving for Italian tonight.
Youre welcome!
Thanks Matt! My dog Goodun and I are going to love this!
You're welcome!
Freaking awesome! I love the fact you did everything the way folks would do it at home. Tons of respect that you didn't do an "InstaTuber" production. Thank you!!👍🏻
You're welcome!
Thank you for showing us how to dry spaghetti with sauce. This was really interesting and very informative. Great video.
This is such a great idea and I’ve always wondered how it was done great video Matt keep up the awesome up loads
Awesome! You did a great job explaining everything! I might add a little more of the vegetables, maybe fresh garlic. Like your idea of rinsing the meat. Thanks !
Brilliant mate, Thanks for sharing! - Skorp, Western Australia.
Glad you enjoy!
The one I use listed on my amazon.com/shop/matthewposa is my favorite ive used but it aint cheap by any means.
man those are some REAAAALL big table spoons xD xD xD
I would definitely watch more of these videos
It turned o
ut GREAT!!
Here's a tip I learned from a backpacker: Mix breadcrumbs into your ground beef before cooking. It rehydrates MUUUUCH better.
i love watching your different traveling and camping and i love monty and ruger
I bet you'll like the taste and the benefits too!!!
before watching this video I wasn't to keen on this but after seeing what goes into it i'd give it a bash!
It's really good!
Thanks for the great camera work. The closeups let us see the details! Aloha from Seattle!
You're welcome! Hello!
Monty's like "Dad do you need your hands cleaning"???
This was exactly what I needed, having just bought a dehydrator. Many thanks.
Great job Matthew! Informative and great instructions. You speak to the home cook in all of us with your loose and easy cooking style. Btw, those are the most generous "tablespoons" I have ever seen. LOL
:D
That's how I make my spaghetti. I even use a little brown sugar. I don't rinse the meat because I don't dry it but I may targeting a batch. That would be good when you need a quick lunch or dinner at home too. Yum
Is anyone like, omg he's cooking on the floor and then the dog! OMG!
Yes. Very much so.
How else are you supposed to do it? Looks good to me.
No, this is basically what it’s like out in the wilderness.
Try using a canning funnel when you fill your bags, it will make it easier. Good video.
I thought that exact same thing.
Thanks Matt! Looks good.. I enjoy your videos.
Very cool. I like that you showed how to re hydrate it, most videos lack that. Looked amazing.
