Build an AWESOME bridge - Realistic Scenery Volume 10

  • If you’re looking for inspiration to build and design a bridge for your model railroad or for a scenery diorama then you’ve found the right video. In this tutorial I take you through every step of the process to create an awesome realistic looking model diorama or a scene that you could incorporate in to a model railway layout possible even a wargaming terrain piece.
Also if you want more specific details about what measurements I used for this bridge and all the types of scale lumber I used you can find all that information here at boulder creek railroad:
    www.bouldercre...
The model is built to HO scale which is 1:87th scale however the same techniques could be used for N scale right through to O scale and larger.
The intro shows my favorite train! A Bendigo Rail Models P-Class that I’ve used numerous times and a new set of carriages from Auscision both of which are available from www.AustralianModeller.com.au
    P-Class: www.australian...
    Carriages: www.australian...
A little story about the diorama:
There were a couple of things about this diorama that I would change in the future, the first being the color of the bridge.
This leads back to good lighting when building and painting models, the lighting I was using at the time of painting the bridge gave a false impression that it was more grey than it actually was, so at some stage over the next month or so I may repaint the bridge by adding a coat of grey over the top.
Secondly I would have liked to make the diorama longer, that way I would have been able to get better shots looking along the track whilst filming the run bys. This is not a major issue but just something I would likely improve upon on the next diorama.
I hope you enjoyed watching and managed to pick up a tip or two.

you have so many tips and tricks in your videos, it would be hard to figure them all out watching your videos once. from the tools you use to the ground cover. the chopper seems to be a tool you use for just about every project you do. seems like a great investment for anyone getting into the scenery side of modeling. but the tip I like the best is one most people might miss. dirt from outside. wow for cheap, and found every where. and the dried up leaves chopped in a blender. real ground cover to use as scenic ground cover.
the bridge you make in this video is picture perfect. add a couple kids standing above the track watching the trin go under. well that takes me back to the days of growing up.
Thanks Luke. another 30 mins well spent, for the viewer.

    • @BoulderCreekRailroad
      @BoulderCreekRailroad  6 ปีที่แล้ว

ha ha thanks Dave, I certainly use the chop-it a lot! There's a lot of micro-mark tools that I use pretty regularly. It's funny when I go looking for dirt, I usually drive around looking for just the right color dirt which believe it or not happens to coincide with the side of busy roads! I must look so suspicious to passers by as I try to discretely scoop up shovel loads of dirt from the roadside! Lighter color dirt looks much better on the layout after applying the glue because it will usually become a lot darker after glue is applied.
Glad you enjoyed watching the video and keep up the hard work on your channel as well, when I get down time from work and home I'll often watch what you've been up to 😉

As humble and as down-to-earth as you seem to be, I doubt if you realize how incredible a modeler/diorama maker/teacher you are. It's seems impossible, but each video is more amazing than the last. When you started curving the track with your simple homemade block, I was saying, "Come on! Who thinks of something like that?" Genius. You have a lot of subscribers. You deserve triple the amount.

You would make a brilliant architect!! your dioramas could be models and the workers just need to do it large scale.

Excellent choice of subject matter, Luke! These bridges - or very similar ones - could once be found just about everywhere. They can also be well-employed in place of tunnel portals, since most railroad layouts end up having to incorporate an unrealistic number of tunnels to lead track to staging or out through the backdrop for a few feet. With a cut and a good clump of vegetation to help block the view, a small bridge like this - perhaps with a stopped vehicle on it - can be an excellent alternative to yet another tunnel portal, suggesting the tracks merely disappear behind a hill or into the forest.
