i was also one of the Indians in Peter Pan. I was almost crying when I got the role, but then i loved it because it was so hot backstage and everyone was wearing tons of layers. Not the Indians. We barely had any clothes!
uhhh this makes me so happy actually! we're doing "fiddler on the roof" with our high school drama club and...i'm yente. i'm also 18 rn. so there was a lot of...stumbling, trying to play it right, trying to let every part be my favourite part, because that's what actors /do/, right? i'm glad to see, not every time :D
Aww, but The Wedding Singer was actually how I first really came to know about Laura!! :D I thought she was awesome in it, personally :P (Also, that show was so underrated- it was ridiculously fun and I still rock out to the cast recording quite a bit!)
I mean...he was kind of too old? But he sang it beautifully and theatre isn't so much like movies, it's kind of normal to see someone in his mid-thirties playing 20 (and don't even get me started on opera; Dame Kiri is lovely and talented and played ingenues until she was like 50)

Rachel Bay Jones said she was miscast as the "Spanish Rose." Patti Murin said she shouldn't have played an Indian. LaChanze said she shouldn't have played a Hispanic woman. There is nothing wrong with admitting that they should have had a white guy play a Norwegian.

Also the plot of Frozen doesn’t deal with race whereas Bye Bye Birdie does, Rose is not accepted by her mother in law because she is Latina marrying a white man. Her race is integral to the plot. In Frozen they are A. In a fictitious magical country in which snowmen can talk B. Not discussing race or race relations. And C. Never explicitly stated Kristoff’s backstory. For all we know he could be an immigrant. Also, there are far more roles for white people than for people of color which is why it is acceptable to cast a POC in a traditionally white role. You are giving opportunity to an underserved community rather than taking one of the few precious coveted roles that POC have written for them away. Hope that makes sense
Even though the main inspiration for Arendelle is Norway, it isn’t set in Norway, Disney has stated this multiple times. Arendelle is a scandinavian-ish fictional kingdom that has trolls and magic. The race of the characters isn’t really important.
