Update I finished it heres my full review of this book I have mix feeling about this book like the first 35% of the book all I cared about was the grandmother, the podcast episode chapters which was freaking fantastic loved all the effects of the podcast and the Texas vibes Thats about it and then I kept reading n reading and it started to get better but then it kinda fell of a cliff when the spice happened that part didn't need to b there at all n the parts with her starting to remember that night I kinda get it bc of the head Injury n Amnesia Aspect of it but it was getting kinda Repetitive with the whole I don't remember that night or people saying she killed her bestfriend like yeah I get it I don't need to be told over n over again but over all u enjoyed this one was it the best thriller I have read no it wasn't bc I have read Thrillers where I was on toes at every turn of the page this one was just ok
Amnesia in a thriller or mystery is my favorite! So much so that I did a research paper on amnesia for a high school class. I gave Listen for the Lie five stars, but I agree that the ending was just okay. The grandma, podcast, friendship, and Lucy's sarcasm I loved.
I had no idea that’s what the rom-commers was about lol. But I need Katherine center to get it together and make me a book as good as the bodyguard again 😭
Yay! I’m so glad you gave that book five stars! I loved it but I can see why other people may not enjoy it. But I am already highly anticipating what that author writes next!
Ahhhh I’m so happy you loved The Eyes Are The Best Part, I’m super excited to read that one. Also I’m so happy because Julia Bartz has a new book on her goodreads page supposedly coming out next year🥳🥳. Not sure if you knew that already but thought I’d let you know lol
Darling Girls was my first Sally Hepworth, and it was a good time (more of a drama/mystery). Listen for the Lie was decent (a bit of a cozy mystery vibe; though I might rate it lower have I just read it instead of auidiobook). The Eyes are the Best Part blew me away when I read its ARC, so happy to see you enjoyed it!
We so think alike!!! I had the same opinion about “listen for the lie” it was average at best! Even when I went to buy it, the cashier said she really loved this book. So I had very high expectations but it wasn’t all that good . I always look for your 5 star recommendations!!
I have read 4 Katherine Center books (How to walk away, things you save in a fire, The Bodyguard and What you wish for), and I would say her books are just average reads. I decided to skip Hello Stranger because of your review and now I am thinking of skipping The Rom-comers too. 😅 out of Katherine Center books that I have read, The Bodyguard and What You wish for are the standouts. Thanks for the review😊
I am so looking forward to your 5 star read since I saw Kayla mention it in like January!! This one has been on my radar! Think I’m gonna go to the bookstore tomorrow and get it to dive in!!
So I loved The Rom-Commers, but I completely agree with the writing style. It drove me crazy how many times the MC would address the “reader”. It was strange to me. But, I still loved it and Charlie grew on me. I do understand how others wouldn’t like it, though. I haven’t read the other books you read for this video, but they are on my TBR. 😊
Fun video, Gabby, thanks! There was suspense about when the 5 star would come. A real twist it came when it did. I also enjoy your kitchen segments -- you're a good cook!
I know you said you don't typically like sour drinks HOWEVER, the Warhead Sour Watermelon and Sour Patch Kids Blue Raspberry are tied for my favorites! So SO good. I drink one when I really need to get some housework done. 😂 Editing to add how happy I am you loved The Eyes because it's my favorite book of the year so far and I'm not sure how it'll be beat. Your reactions mirrored so many of my own and ugh it's just SO GOOD. I've been screaming at people to read it at my bookstore and I'm hosting my first bookclub with it in July just to bully people to read it further. 😂
I think authors keep doing that “well, readers…” thing now in their narrative style because Bridgerton is narrated in that way and the show is so popular right now.
lol talking about the fish and eyes and all that I went to a restaurant with a friend and ordered something I hadn’t tried before. And then I tell you the second that came out of the kitchen doors, THE SECOND I knew it was my plate. The fish was massive and they had it propped up on a lemon wedge so it was like sitting up on the plate just looking at me. Like no thank you do yall sell chicken fingers 😅😅😅 ohhhh good times.
I would also give Listen for the Lie a 3 star and I totally agree about the amnesia trope being convenient! I made that point in my own review of this book. I actually really enjoyed The Rom-Commers 😂
If I'm not mistaken, the last book you read is the Evernight book for next month. If it is, awesome, I look forward to reading it and being very grossed out lol. I've been getting more into thriller/horror and it is actually thanks to you, so thank you.
I feel you’re the only one that has the same Sally Hepworth opinion as me! I loved the good sister (4 star) then hated soulmate (1 star) but Darling Girls was my fav! It was a 5 star for me!!
Its so funny to me when the main character in a thriller has amnesia because I actually went through a terrible, traumatic experience and the whole experience is all black to me except for a few moments. I got put on PTSD meds because when the black started to clear here and there it was super disturbing and interrupted my life. It's crazy but does happen lol.
I confirm that I don’t read thrillers too often and I loved Listen for the Lie. I don’t think it’s mind blowing but I enjoyed it very much and it did what I want thrillers to do
Yeah, I'm glad you loved The Eyes Are the Best Part but I read it as an arc and hated it lol so your review is correct, I can see the appeal but it wasn't for me at all. Fun vlog overall though and always happy to hear your perspective, thanks!
I laughed when you said it was hit at 70s.. as I’m dying here in Florida 🤣 I agree with your thoughts on listen for the lie. I gave it a 4 but I think it was mostly just the podcast elements and I had a good time but that ending … 😅🤣
I immediately went and requested The Eyes Are the Best Part from Libby. I am number 5 in line for it. I can't wait to listen to it. Anything to do with the eyes always makes me squesmish, but I am still going to list to it. I can't imagine eating the eyeballs or even the head of a fish. Yuck!
Darling Girls and the final chapter should be studied by other thriller authors on how to hit the reader with a good final twist. I honestly am happy that the writer went there with that final chapter.
I was going to go out of my comfort zone and read The Rom-Commers, but now I’m not so sure! I struggle with the “grumpy/sunshine” trope, especially when my brain can’t justify why the grumpy character is such an asshole 😭
I gave the rom-commers a 3.5. There were some weird bits, but I actually liked the Ferris beuler style narration where she breaks the 4th wall. The heart flutter thing annoyed me though.
Can anyone tell me what song is playing at around the 31 min mark? While she’s in the coffee shop?? I was loving it!! 😂😂 also great video of course!! Per usual. I love all your Vlogs Gabby and have followed you forever!! Can’t wait for SummerWeen!! 🎃🎃🎃🎃
Im currently reading listen for the lie and im about 34% into the book and there are only three things i care about 1. The grandmother love her shes hilarious 2. The podcast chapters love that part of the book the effects are so good 3. The Texas vibes Thats it everything else i just dont care about like lucy is suspicious like i dont trust her at all and i agree with wah u said about it begin repetitive like i get it she has murder thoughts of murding people she just looks at and the Amnesia part of this book i dont really like i just wish we got flashback early in the book or at least something but its reading like a 2 or 3 star for mi but i will updste this coment once im done 😂😂
The amount of typos in Darling Girls was egregious and very distracting for me. Not sure if it was just the BOTM editions - maybe it was, since I know you mentioned typos being distracting in another recent book you read, so I was kinda surprised you didn't mention it for this one.
If you say the character, George, is gross and creepy then I'll accept that appraisal, Otherwise, I'd say something like it can be difficult entering into a relationship with a person because almost always you have to surrender some part of yourself. On the same topic, I too have never been a big fish eater, though I do like a good piece of salmon.
"I couldn't pull my eyes away from this" hahahaha nice pun work 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I'm sorry I'll see myself out 😂 Oof trigger warning for white men 😭 I love your vlog clips of you reading and annotating books 💕
Love your vids but I’d like to say that eating fish eyeballs is part of a lot of asian cultures (like you mentioned in Japan). I get it that it may not be appealing to others out of our culture but to say “disgusting” and continues to gag was quite disrespectful, especially if you’ve been consistently loving Korean culture
The narration style in the Rom-Commers is annoying because the characters ARE WRITERS. Why would their tell their own story from their own perspective so terribly?

“Red flags or annoying behavior from men” is the best annotation ever.
Hahaha it was incredibly necessary with this book 😂🤭
Amnesia in a thriller or mystery is my favorite! So much so that I did a research paper on amnesia for a high school class. I gave Listen for the Lie five stars, but I agree that the ending was just okay. The grandma, podcast, friendship, and Lucy's sarcasm I loved.
Darling Girls was our book club’s June book too! We all loved it! It definitely sparked some intense conversations.
I had no idea that’s what the rom-commers was about lol. But I need Katherine center to get it together and make me a book as good as the bodyguard again 😭
Me too what the heck 😭
Having an Ashely Poston as a back up is so real 😂
Yay! I’m so glad you gave that book five stars! I loved it but I can see why other people may not enjoy it. But I am already highly anticipating what that author writes next!

What I had no idea!! How exciting 🤩🤩🤩

I felt the same about listen for the lie Gabby, it's not at all jaw dropping or twisty like everyone raving. I also rated it 3 ⭐
So I loved The Rom-Commers, but I completely agree with the writing style. It drove me crazy how many times the MC would address the “reader”. It was strange to me. But, I still loved it and Charlie grew on me. I do understand how others wouldn’t like it, though. I haven’t read the other books you read for this video, but they are on my TBR. 😊
So happy you enjoyed that last book! I gave it 5 stars, too.
I already knew what the five star book would be out of that line-up.
Fun video, Gabby, thanks! There was suspense about when the 5 star would come. A real twist it came when it did. I also enjoy your kitchen segments -- you're a good cook!
LOVED The Eyes Are the Best Part and Aardvark so much😍
The bubblegum ghost is my favorite!
I cannot wait to get to the eyes are the best part! Glad you loved it 💕💕
The Swedish fish ghost energy is the absolute best flavor!
I’ll have to try it ✍️
Same my goal for tomarrow and to read of course
The Eyes are the best part has now been added to my tbr🤭
33:55 omg I was just thinking about that!!
We’re both a bit traumatized from that dinner hahaha 😂
So excited for summerween :')
Hope you're feeling better soon!!!
Adding The Eyes are The Best Part to my TBR 😅 it sounds so good
The podcast element for listen for the lie was good but the intro and outro music was driving me insane 😂
Omg same it was a bit excessive
I'm glad I wasn't the only one, and it wasn't even exciting music, like that's what they picked?
I know you said you don't typically like sour drinks HOWEVER, the Warhead Sour Watermelon and Sour Patch Kids Blue Raspberry are tied for my favorites! So SO good. I drink one when I really need to get some housework done. 😂

I’ll have to try those flavors!! 🤩 and yes ahhh it’s so good, I’m so surprised by how much I loved it!!! ❤
I think authors keep doing that “well, readers…” thing now in their narrative style because Bridgerton is narrated in that way and the show is so popular right now.
I also preferred Roughest Draft over Beach Reads.
lol talking about the fish and eyes and all that I went to a restaurant with a friend and ordered something I hadn’t tried before. Oh man I would just die 😅
I would also give Listen for the Lie a 3 star and I totally agree about the amnesia trope being convenient! I made that point in my own review of this book. I actually really enjoyed The Rom-Commers 😂
I have a netgalley arc of The Eyes Are The Best Part. So excited to read it!
Aw, I had a friend named Savannah and we called her savvy too ❤
I loved Darling Girls it was so good and I also really loved the audiobook as well!
If I'm not mistaken, the last book you read is the Evernight book for next month. If it is, awesome, I look forward to reading it and being very grossed out lol. I've been getting more into thriller/horror and it is actually thanks to you, so thank you.

I agree with the amnesia trope. Feels very convenient indeed.
I am watching this video in Paris!!! Great video.
I always listen to your reviews, thanks for all you do. ❤️

I adored “Darling Girls”❤
This was so much fun!! I forgot how much I loved videos like this ❤❤
I laughed when you said it was hit at 70s.. as I’m dying here in Florida 🤣
I agree with your thoughts on listen for the lie. I gave it a 4 but I think it was mostly just the podcast elements and I had a good time but that ending … 😅🤣

omg that was an unexpected 5 star! glad you loved it!!
My guy loves Ghost. His faves are the Sour Patch Kids and Warhead ones. But I think the Bubblicious Strawberry Splash one is by far the BEST!!!!
I agree sometimes grumpy/sunshine can be so annoying 😭🫠
Great vlog 📚🧋🌈🍄💐😎
I gave the rom-commers a 3.5. There were some weird bits, but I actually liked the Ferris beuler style narration where she breaks the 4th wall. The heart flutter thing annoyed me though.
I’m glad u loved darling girls cuz I wanted so much to love it but I wasn’t getting invested so I dnf it lol. The good sister is my top one by her 😊
Walmart has those acai bowls too!
I have an earc of the rom-commers but still haven’t read it 😩
Can anyone tell me what song is playing at around the 31 min mark? While she’s in the coffee shop?? I was loving it!! 😂😂 also great video of course!! Per usual. I love all your Vlogs Gabby and have followed you forever!! Can’t wait for SummerWeen!! 🎃🎃🎃🎃
Not George walking by at 36:29 😩😂
😂😂😂
Thanks for the vlog. Your vlogs are so fun to watch. Dang on the Rom-Commers. I just got it from the library. I'm going to lower my expectations
Since you liked The Eyes Are The Best Part, I think you might like Earthlings by Sayaka Murata. It’s one of my all time favs.
Oh no, seeing that the video is almost 50 minutes, looks like it took a while to hit 5 stars!
I get those açaí bowls at Walmart!
Blue raspberry sour patch and orange cream are my favorite. i tried bubblicious and it was good to
The character in that book thinking white men are better is so funny because race isn’t the issue, the issue is MEN
💯
Yes darling girls was so good but I’d agree it was a 4 for me. But was her best work in my opinion
Im currently reading listen for the lie and im about 34% into the book and there are only three things i care about

I love ghost

43:08
Not you talking about it’s hot since it’s high 70s😭😭it’s 106 where I’m at😅
Oh wow 🔥
Eyeballs freak me out but I’ve eaten a goat eye on Easter 🙈
🤮🤮🤮
I also gave rom-commers 2 stars 😬It was a big disappointment. Charlie was so unnecessarily rude for too long. The ending made me cringe as well.
Cracking up on ur comment about white men, I feel the same wayyy😂😂
😂😂😂
31:13
Hey Gabby Thanks for recommending a long time ago Stolen Tongues by Felix I can't remember his last name lol but its totally creepy 💜 👻
I just finished listen for the lie and I’m so annoyed dude!! Like that’s what happened that’s it omg??? It wasn’t terrible but I want my time back 😂😂
I’m so annoyed by the rom-commers characters and I haven’t even read it😂I would hate these people in real life😂
The amount of typos in Darling Girls was egregious and very distracting for me. Not sure if it was just the BOTM editions - maybe it was, since I know you mentioned typos being distracting in another recent book you read, so I was kinda surprised you didn't mention it for this one.
I don't understand the hype for Listen for the Lie. It was okay, but didn't stick with me at all.
❤❤❤
If you say the character, George, is gross and creepy then I'll accept that appraisal, Otherwise, I'd say something like it can be difficult entering into a relationship with a person because almost always you have to surrender some part of yourself. On the same topic, I too have never been a big fish eater, though I do like a good piece of salmon.

🥰🥰🥰
I DNF’d the rom-commers in audiobook format. I just couldn’t stand that guy, I didn’t like this romance at all
"I couldn't pull my eyes away from this" hahahaha nice pun work 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 I'm sorry I'll see myself out 😂 Oof trigger warning for white men 😭 I love your vlog clips of you reading and annotating books 💕
