    He was raised by his mother, who was white, but made sure that he was educated about black history and enrolled him in Pan-African Saturday School, which is why he was reading Malcolm at age nine.

    When Akala was a kid there were Saturday schools started and run by carribean communities and he went to one of those Saturday schools.

      Hey Danielle fancy seeing you here 😊
      He went to a pan African Saturday school in Camden I think? He very much believes that learning along with the unequally learning in mainstream British school system built his values.
      I always refer anyone to look into grenfell to show the inequalities in London. One street rich, the next street tower block burnt down and many families killed just so the rich didn’t have to look at what they felt was an eyesore 😢

    • @alexisdonaldson3430
      @alexisdonaldson3430 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Also his mother is Scottish, which is a different element to his background. So he has a wide experience of people and attitudes in his own family, which I think comes across in his lyrics.

      Back in day in America on the weekends the Black Panthers had what the called the “African Free School” You’ll still find pockets of it here and there. That will pop up event once in a while.

    • @KKGAMING31
      @KKGAMING31 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not exclusive to the Caribbeans! I went to a Ghanaian Saturday school in Willesden Green London during the early '90s; we would study extra maths, English, African Geography and Ghanaian and African history. It was a way to get additional education into our community's children, as many believed and still do that the state system does not value our children.

    A little bit of background: Akala is half white Scottish and half black Jamaican. He grew up with his mother but had a relationship with his father. He was a youth football (soccer) prodigy and played for West Ham (a big club). His older sister is Miss Dynamite (a singer/rapper who was famous about 18 years ago).

      Thats facts!! Part of the reason we decided to do what we are doing is to see artistry and music talent at its best outside of the United States... And we will continue to showcase that! People can get so easily wrapped up on what's always being thrown at them that they dont realize how much more talent is really out there! UK has definitely shined a lot of light and opened our eyes for sure! We gotta keep pushing it!!

    Mix race kid, his sister was a pop star before his own career took off.
    He was also a talent footballer.
    In the UK in the 90s we had a series of Saturday schools run by pan Africanist.
    There taught plenty about their culture.
    Most mix race kids lean to the black side of their culture.
    Alaka took his learning to the highest level.

    This is one of my fav Akala freestyles. Only issue I have is the mild distortion/clipping, if it was clearer would be so much better but it’s still dope. Proving he can do anything on the mic, no actually, he proves that in part 4.
    Anyway, you need to react to;

    Oh yeh, jus a bit more background on Akala, at the age of 15 he was one of the top5 (I think even top 3🤔😂) mathematicians in the country, that's why he says about teaching kids mathematics instead of playing his role. So yeh, he's a full on genius 🤷‍♂️😂
    And he was saying how,when he sees an elder yardie on road,they tell him HE'S the future, that's why he put on a Jamaican accent lol. But yeh you were both sorta right, he hasn't got kids but yeh he's on that vibe and it's also a metaphor for rappers

    Nothing is known to man that is faster than the speed of light.
    Light cannot escape a black hole.
    However this is not due to matter/photons/atoms moving towards the light, moreover the light photons moving towards the black hole mass which has an immense gravitation pull. Some shit like that haha, watch some science vids, super interesting stuff!
    also looking forward to more Akala reactions!!!!! :D

    If you want his story, why he thinks the way he does and the most thoughtful look at race in the UK, check his book 'Natives: Race and Class in the Ruins of Empire'. He talks about all these issues and explains his evolution. There's also an amazing interview by James O'brien on TH-cam. Will attach link below in reply...
