Well it is more of a case of Paradox wanting us to play Byzantium a certain way and use political and financial manoeuvrings to mitigate entrenched policies at that time period. Basically, you have to do what all good Emperors do when their government stands in their way - diplomacy and $$$.

    • @thomasmann4536
      @thomasmann4536 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +19

@@foxdavion6865 bsically, you pull all the same tricks you always pull at the start when playing small nations: go over forcelimit spamming mercs and throw money at the problem that you then take back from winning the war. There's nothing inherently new or challenging about it. Only more frustration bc of some bullshit modifiers. Paradox confuses relying on RNG with difficulty.

@@thomasmann4536 Very true, but the devs want us to jump through hoops in this case, adding extra steps to fane gameplay. On the bright side, least 40% cost reduction means you can hire expensive good ones and not force you to take so many lones it takes 50 years to pay them all off.

If you trucebreak ottobros, it's better to not take Edirne in the first war. AI priorities 1) the same continent and region, 2) the same religion, 3) the same culture, 4) the opinion. If turkish capital stays in Europe, the game consider Ottos to be European country and in 1440-50-s there are no other muslim nation in Europe (except Granada but it will be dead in few years).
So the AI against turks will be so small that your can truce break them three times and annex all of Greece, Bulgaria and Asia Minor. All ya need for that is just to leave Edirne as otto's capital (but sometimes II is smart and change its capital to Anatolia).

      @niksan4318 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@user-jh8xg2yg1qExactly! Sometimes they even guarantee Serbia/Wallachia so you can attack them and get Ottos to war again.
Plus, if in the first war you take Kocaeli, Bolu and Ankara instead of Kocaeli, Biga and Hudavendigar, except that you take out one more fort from the Ottos (making the war easier), you can also place your troops at Ankara and attack whichever (Karaman, Candar) the Ottos are about to attack. Then you vassalize that nation and get in a defensive war with the Ottos.
Why truce break? There is no reason

Have made 43 attempts, not including restarts where i start with neg morale/diplo rep ruler which is common. Genoa rivals me every time, Venice rivals either me or the pope every time so i cant reduce the shipbuilding timer. The knights are alliable ~50% but almost always never leave Port or send troops so they dont help with holding the strait, i have seen them fight with their ships twice and both times they wouldnt join my navy. Georgia has never accepted land to enter the war and on the occasions where I got the favours they and the Ottomans had improved relations to an insurmountable point. Hungry and albania have rivalled Serbia every time so not an alliance option.

It's more of a diplomacy, stab someone in the back kind of game, then HOI4 where you just produce and commit to the campaign. All of Paradox is about stack multipliers, but since i play from few days (installed the game tons of times trough the years, just to play - quit, play - quit, now I made Eureka and i can build upon this), the game and all it's DLC's (pirated ofc), had so many buttons that were scattered everywhere... Wow that was really cool ! This will definitely be my first campaign in this DLC. Questions to you:
    * Do you see a strat with no mercs ? (for challenge sake)
    * Couldn't you fight Ragusa and truce reset rather than trucebreak? That's what I do. I don't even truce reset. Ragusa is my go-to when I need to fight Ottomans when in truce.
    Feedback pro PDX 😀:
    * I honestly don't like the sprites for Byzantium. The units look nothing like the eastern roman infantry of the time. They look more like an alternative history revisit of the Roman Empire. I was hoping to see a change in this DLC.
    * No love for the north-caucus nations 😢? It's such a fascinating region, my wife is from there and it's not fun much fun to play there.
    * One of my favorite mission trees as of late is that of Riga. The city strategy just gives so many ideas of how to play as an OPM. The influence of these cities is unquestionable and I'd love to see more content of the sort, (including an alternative for byzantium which could embrace an single province strat.
I love the work you guys are doing and great to see Ludi show us how the game features work.

Regardless of the next expansion, I would like to see a buff to generic missions for such nations as releasable on start of game and other obscure small nations. Give them some permanent modifiers and claims. Nothing big but a crumb not to starve for content. Since usually playing such nations I will have my own plan and story in mind but permanent modifiers, buffs and claims are not existent. For example expanding the state could give permanent claims on the region to aid with the mission of unifying the region. Unifying would in turn could give a small permanent modifier and maybe power projection 10 permanent or not would be good.
On the other note I really think it is time to give permanent power projection for disbanding HRE. Also an emperor of China and HRE could get Power projection while they are the holder of the throne and certain amount of reforms have been passed that consolidate their empire.
Also a buff to terrains with a major river I think should also be given since large fortification on plains or fields are usually build to take advantage of the water for defense. It could be something new and cool as reducing the amount of calculated units sieging a fortification with this buff being negated during winter as water freezes over.
Covert actions plot kill heir would help in creating personal union with a nation a player has royal marriage and favors with. Also an event where if plot is discovered and relations go to negative player is puled into a war of aggression against target of plot, and nation targeted by the plot get a discount at vassalizing the aggressor or a new button allowing to install their dynasty forcefully on your throne.
Returning to the HRE I would also suggest an event with options for the emperor when releasing a nation it will ask if that nation will be a bishopric which could give bonus relations with the pope, or a monastic order to strengthen the empire with a temporary bonus(5-15 years for example) to HRE when fighting heretics/heathens, release a monarchy which could give loyalty to nobility estate or another option of installing players dynasty but get a minus to nobility loyalty but get a royal ties with released country, and a republic release which would give loyalty to burghers estate and better relation with Free cities of the HRE, or just set them to transfer trade power/steer trade.

Is this unlimited rebel spawn fun? It's so tedious to deal with both pretender and the anti-union rebels, + all the other rebels. Managed to beat Ottos, establish a foothold in italy and crimea, but now I'm horribly in debt, rebels spawning all the time, no manpower, no easy avenues of expansion. You make it look so easy in this video and it's anything but.

I would like to highlight the following issues for innovation:
    1. Dependence of the reduction in the cost of development on the % of human power. Such dependence exists and has existed in the real world.
    2. Change in inflation, inflation is the thing that destroys economies and countries, in eu4 it simply means income per couple of coins. Will help with the balance of money of large countries
    3. Financial investments in the provinces in ducats, also reducing the cost of development, prosperity comes faster, etc., etc.
    4. Slavic paganism. Preserved in the northern regions of Russia for a very long time. At a minimum, to create your own country, it would be interesting to see more pagan religions.
    5. Possibility to refuse a gift (inflation, inflation)
    6. More, but I dont remember some cool things, what I found

They ABSOLUTELY need to add that +1 dice roll to the Theodosian walls, though I do think I understand why they opted not to for the beta. But historically, those walls were beyond impressive. Absolutely one of the most impressive structures of the city, right with the Hogia Sophia. It's a minor change, but it would make Constantinople that much grander.

For Paradox. It would like to improve the mission tree for HRE (Swabia, Hanover, Franconia, Westphalia, Pomerania) and especially for Bohemia, Hungary and Burgundy. Compared to other big countries, the missions are ridiculous and small. Specifically with the Czechs, if you go the way of the Hussites, you won't do 1/3 of the missions. At the same time, Silesia, Moravia, Nitra and Transylvania should have a mission tree and the event of the creation of Great Moravia. For Czechs and Hungarians, you can create an equally high-quality, fun and long mission tree and their long history. There are a lot of options, events and reforms. Bohemia can be referred to Přemyslovka and the dominant in the Middle Ages and the ruler of the HRE. I can't help but think it's sloppy and I'm not talking about the thirty year war that only exists because you choose a side to join and you either win or you don't.

In the chance that Paradox sees this, I feel like a Bulwark of Christendom kind of DLC would be a natural step forward, featuring Wallachia, Moldavia, Hungary and Albania, with most other Balkan nations getting some more flavour. We got the Ottomans' immediate neighbours in this DLC, I'd personally like to see the next DLC go further into Europe and give some more immersion to the Balkans countries that were pretty much a thorn in the Ottomans' side in the late 1400s.

Suggestion to the Paradoxians: I'd love some change to be made to the separatist rebels, or the way they work, so we start seeing countries break free from rebels, rather than almost never seeing it, especially in powerful countries, and primarily seeing them being released in wars.

And now i understand how the community post image from a few days ago was done. A bunch of seemingly odd steps that make sense due to the way it works, plus the ability to release bulgaria from the 11th of November 1444, and then 40% cheaper mercenary (with strategy and navy and being at least decent at the game) combined with the pope and Serbia and balkan all over the place. Well, that's at least what i got. Sorry if my prior comment (the community post one) came off as rude or trolly, i should've read into things a bit closer first.

    to Paradox:
-Venetia and Genoa need rework similar as Lubeck.
-colonization is broken for the big 4. Mechanics need to change. Tordesillas is enough, colonies should not expand by themselves, as they were not allowed historically.
-all mercs should have traits and somehow size and even composition should not be determined by development.
-please... please... do something about IA developing as if there was no tomorrow from 1550 onwords. Where there's a farmland province I have to conquer a 30+ developed province.

QUICK TIP: what i like to do is wait until i get high enough relations with HUNGARY. if you are declared war on by ottomans you can restart and it isn't nearly as frustrating as losing all the battles against them. scornfully insult hungarian rival and improve relations from early game. you may need to unally serbia, ally hungary, then re-ally serbia. to declare war you will wait for truce timer on hungary and serbia to finish, ottos will not invade because of your alliances. when truce is over you have hungary and serbia on your side. also for after when you win the war you will need to not get over 20k in total in your army. also i like to instead of hiring free company at the start, hire up to force limit and get 10% morale from Defense in Depth mission. then get additional 5% army morale from fully annexing epirus (you will never get full naval supremacy against ottomans, even with allies, because it's ai and they get insane admirals for some reason). also, it's a misconception but you also get the permanent claims on italy from the mission even though you annexed epirus instead of vassalizing them. finally for the war you will wait for mil tech 4 because you start the game w/ focusing on mil points.

    Hey Ludi and Paradox,
What I would want from the next DLC is a complete rework to how colonialism is general works. Europeans, when colonizing the new world, shouldn't be able to send a handful of troops over to the new world and completely crush any indigenous nation armies they come across. The Spanish, for example, were only able to beat the Aztecs because of the massive alliances with disgruntled tribes within the Empire. The vast majority of the army was lead and fought by indigenous peoples.
There should be a far more intensive focus on diplomatic relations with tribes. And having the opportunity to have more peaceful interactions with Natives.

Those are my impressions about byzantium so i hope they will be usefull even if they might be a little too fanboy. First of all i really like the start and the middleof the mission tree with all the flavour that it gives, but i sense like it miss at end of politicial missions, about restablish the roman empire. This byzantine politcal tree ends when reaching the border of justinian reign. When the bizantium dev diary was announced i hoped that even Roman empire would had recived new flavour with byzantium. No more only a goal to achieve but a serious a entertainin expirience with flavour and mission, as expansion of byzantin empire mission tree , and/or as possible other path with its mission flavour ( ancient roman flavour, paganism and tollerance, empire or republic ect) to choose instead of the byzantine one (roman empire more like byzantine, cristian absolute ect). Like the Teutons and other nation of lion of te nord pacth. The last thing is about the Senate reform. i think it would be more interesting if they dont use the base parlament system with the seat (too english), but unique sistem (more roman) like senate as estate with its own privileges.
Thank you for reading this report, for creating those good content and giving us this possibility to be active part of the project .
    i apologize for my english.
