I went here in the late 90s when I was a teenage, I remember the beautiful doorway, he had left a note saying he was in town for supplies so unfortunately didn’t get a tour. His garden was beautiful and there was a water pulley system that went all the way down to the river. The bridges were still intact then and was a memory I never forgot!

Yeas there was bridges all the way to the cave...you know Leon mentioned he was writing a book. I t would be interesting to find out if it got published.

I was there when Leon was there in 1994. I worked for Larson/Juhl in Burnaby driving 1 tone truck I stopped there on the way home after my Okanagan deliveries.
Leon use to live in Vancouver and moved there because he was able to bank 20 000 and he got that by donating on the streets of Vancouver and saving every penny.
If you go down that hill is where he showed me his fridge in the ground there an underground spring keeping his food cool...somewhere in my storage I have a picture of Leon. Leon built that floor and walls in 1993. There was no guessed book when I would visit him. I can still picture him in front of the doorway. In 1992 I was there and he was not living there. If you look on the side of the hill you will see where he tried to grow his own food didn't do good though because of little light as it's in a cayon.

Just by virtue of being a monk, it implies leaving earthly comforts behind. I know I couldn't do it especially for an extended time.
That being said, I thoroughly enjoyed the look into this remote lifestyle site. It made me think what it would take to actually live here. Luke, your determination to reach a place like this with all the creek crossings shows the lengths you go to bring us here.
Having been born and raised in the Northwest, my thoughts have been with you all going through this heatwave - almost unheard of in the 30 years I lived there - I came to Cincinnati in'71. I still get back. It's where a calm and peace come over me.
The Drone shots of the creek (beautiful) and overhead of the trees and creek below were spectacular. Thanks so much. It's like therapy to me.

He was there in 1994 i visited him regularly. I might have a picture of Leon. He said he was going to write a book im not sure if he did. Why did he become a monk? He was at a classical musical in Vancouver and looked around, he said to me it seems like its just an image and shortly after that he became a Monk. He had 20 000 in saving in 1994 he used that to be able to live there. He got that from donation on the streets of Vancouver, Granvelle st .....he wore a red sheet. His biigest complaint was it was cold in that cave...his heath was not good when I was there. He taught me about Paranavana. He showed me lower down ftom the cave where he had a refrigerator box and we talked about a possible spring running close to the surface to keep everything cold. He also had another area where he grew flower and other such things but metioned it didnt grow so good because of lack of sunlight. I have been there many many time and sat in that cave when he had a wood stove. He was my teacher...now i find myself grasping for him....its a human condition
