Just installed my AEM COLD AIR INTAKE. EVERYTHING WENT VERY WELL. INSTRUCTIONS WERE PERFECT. TH-cam VIDEO HELPED MORE THAN YOU'LL FIRED UP THE MOTOR AND RECEIVED MULTIPLE YELLOW ERROR MESSAGES EVERYTHING FROM EMISSION SYSTEMS, PROBLEM, TRANSMISSION, SYSTEM, PROBLEM. Contacted AEM and they really had no suggestions. Did more research online. Discovered the electrical system had to be reset. I disconnected the negative ground from the battery. Waited about 30 seconds. Reconnected the system and everything worked fine and has worked fine sense. Have to tell you I was pretty freaking out, but thank God for TH-cam.
I recently replaced my 2017 Honda Ridgeline 3.5L V6 with a new 2022 model and installed the 21-795C AEM Cold Air Intake from my old 2017. I followed the AEM installation instructions just as before, disconnecting the battery’s negative ground and so on… Everything was fine for a few days vehicle ran as expected and then received an ECM code “Emissions System Problem” and “AWD System Problem”. Since the vehicle only has 1,200 miles and under warranty I took it to my Honda Dealer for diagnosis. The Honda technician found the following: CODES Confirmed by Honda Dealer Tech - Live Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs): 1. P0171 (Fuel System Bank1 Too Lean) and 2. P0174 (Fuel System Bank2 Too Lean). The technician also checked the MAF Sensor, fuel flow/pressure and they tested fine. The SOURCE of the codes blamed on my installed 21-795C AEM Cold Air Induction which worked fine for 5 years on my old 2017 Ridgeline 3.5L V6. Honda Dealer Tech reinstalled my OEM air box and readings went back to normal, no codes.
Vtec really is amazing, i used to crack it and let off and hear all the sweet crackles and pops in my civic had a B series but the J series sound really nice
I wouldn’t be surprised that the codes flagged because the factory airbox is rather small and with the new CAI, a lot more air is going thru the MAF and may cause the engine to run lean. The ECU may need to be recalibrated with the new CAI.
I’m curious-any trouble codes after the install. I did the exact intake for my wife’s ‘21 Pilot. Within 10mins I got trouble codes. And before anyone asks, yes, I installed correctly. I’m an experienced mechanic in both civilian and military as well as aerospace technology. I decided to throw the stock back in after being so frustrated.
I have a 2019 Ridgeline. I just pulled my AEM CAI off and put the stock back on. I was getting a P0400 EGR code. AEM said that a CAI wouldn't throw that code. But I have 25,000 miles on my truck and never had a code until I put their CAI on. So I'm going to say BS on their statement. It's ashame too because it does sound good. Just not worth clearing codes out.
@@vbuen323 I experienced this! They sent me a new filter as the claimed the reason for it. Then they sent a whole new kit. Still threw codes my way. I ditched the AEM and bought the HPS kit instead. It works perfectly with 0 problems.
Thanks for video, I have an urgent question I’m hoping someone can answer. I followed the exact steps and received an “emission problem code” and “AWD” code after I refuled at Costco. Anyone else experienced these codes? I have 2021 Ridgeline sport. Please help!
Sorry dont have answer. At least drive for a day or 2, after some miles it often goes away. if the truck was turned on when mass airflow sensor was disconnected you could get some type of error code. If all fails disconnect battery for a min and see if it resets after some miles.
@@jasonin2details thanks, I have been trying to fix it for past few days and reinstalled it again exactly but this time with negative disconnected but the lights came back on just now after about 30 miles of driving
@@jasonin2details I called AEM and they said that my car might be tuned differently and it makes sense since the ECM is programmed specifically for California emission standards. They even offered to test my vehicle here locally to figure out an exact issue. I love this thing, love to hear the sound but it’s not worth the trouble of constantly clearing codes. I’m hoping my contributions will help others, more to come. I have a follow up with AEM on Monday.
@@jasonin2details oh and I told them your video was awesome and helped me installed it, if they ask I’ll provide them your video on you tube. It’s great video thank you

Which year model do you have? I have a 2024 Passport, and now I am considering getting this

Very interesting! Not the first on newer models
Of course you would get the codes, you need to get a tune on the engine after installing the intake

I have a 2020 Honda ridgeline and you're really making me want to get a magnaflow exhaust & AEM filter! Great video.

Now that some time has gone by. Would you say it’s worth spending the money in this intake system?
Hahaha when that vtec kicks in YOU CAN HEAR IT lolol sounds good tho
The truck looks and sounds awesome 😎
9 speed transmission from 2020 to present had an issue if you put the aem intake … error code pops up… after more than 1000 miles of driving..
Uh no. Mines a 2021 and Ive had mine on for 15k miles with no codes
This is my next project on my 2017 BE . I been holding off on this AEM intake . I heard it throws up codes .
mine has not so far about 500 miles
Any links to where you read that?
Mike, I’ve had mine installed for 3 years on my 2017 RTL-T and no codes
I have had codes. P0400. Pulled the intake off no more codes and 3,000 miles later.
My passport is loud when vtec pops and it's on the stock box and filter it cracks me up like settle down suv we are just going to get groceries
Did the installation of the intake cause lean emissions error codes? Had this issue on my 2020 Ridgeline
I’m wondering if you could add an additional intake pipe to route the filter lower and out of the engine bay?
I know the Pilots have it but there should be a small opening down by the fog lights. There is a inlet tube going from there to the filter.
Yes doesn't this set up look like short ram not cold, cold should be at the bottom
I love your wheels. What sire tire are you running? Did you lower the truck? Are the tires rubbing at all? Thanks
I have a bunch of other videos follow my channel for more Ridgeline stuff. These are 255/50/20. in another video i ran 265

Hi Shane,
I Just had the same issue after installing on my ‘21 Ridgeline. Have you found any feedback?
Thanks
@@marcosa7673 AEM sent me a new filter which did nothing. I asked for a refund and received it a few weeks later.

I have an emission problem code and AWD code that tripped after install. Anyone else have the same codes or experiencing this???

I just put mine on today lost the isolator piece but anyways, I’m getting a squeak from the belt side now 🤔
Funny you buy them and the tube doesn’t have the logo ! But al videos you see do have it ! Is it false advertising from AEM ?
Do you have to disconnect the battery when doing the install?
I dont think it said to do that in instructions that came with it
Well done video.....
What more have you done with the stereo?
Great video per usual 👌
Now to add hood vents or hood scope to let the AEM breath better lololol
A Lot enginering involved in the stock sistem to replace to an steel pipe
How much did you spend for your magnaflow system?
600
I just put stickers on. Honda just nails the performance, stock. The air intake in the front is pretty much a cai scoop.
Enjoyed the video
How is this a cold air when it doesn't go down onto the bumper, wouldn't this be a short ram?
Short rams come from the front straight line into the intake plenum.
When you posting the finished Supra sound system???
supra soon! Covid kicking my buddies shop hard but over 120 hours into the build so far and it rocks
