It has come to my attention that i forgot to mention Columbus, even tho i had it on my sheet. As @IanZainea1990 mentions, I think columbus is actually a great city for a team. The only thing holding me back on columbus is that there are already 2 teams in Ohio. However, being squarely in the middle, being the largest city, having several pro sports teams, and having OSU checks off all of the boxes for a city to be here.
Nashville makes sense. It can service a huge area that is currently void of baseball. I’m 4 hours in any direction from a MLB team but a reasonable car ride from Nashville.
Good video man, was totally different from most "MLB Expansion" videos as you actually thought about it and had good pros and cons instead of like the normal "let's just name 10 cities that don't have a team" 😂
I really think if a team would come to the Carolinas, it would be Charlotte because you have to factor in that Charlotte also crosses into South Carolina so you would be building and pulling fans from both states, and a Charlotte MLB would have 2 state support. A Charlotte team would most DEFINITELY become an Atlanta rivalry, pitting the Carolinas and Georgia against each other in a very nice rivalry. With Raleigh you lose out on a South Carolina market in my opinion
It’s worth noting, the state has expressed interest in MLB in RALEIGH. The only ownership group that has come forward wants the team in Raleigh. You’d also be serving all of Eastern NC, which is ENTIRELY blacked out from watching MLB as well as southern VA which has major blackouts as well. SC is Braves country
Calgary did have a AAA team from 1985-2002. The Calgary Cannons they affiliated the Marlins, White Sox, Pirates and Mariners. Arod, A.J. Burnett, and Jim abbot came through the system. And had a AA team the Calgary Vipers from 2005-2011 both teams played at Foothills stadium which is now the home of the University of Calgary Dinos baseball team.

But, when I moved here my loyalties were set to Seattle and the state of Washington. I have not wavered. I hope Portland, Oregon gets a team so the Mariners have a closer opponent.
Despite how close the cities are, I don’t actually think there’s much overlap between Mariners fans and Vancouver residents. Most of them just root for the Blue Jays because they’re the only Canadian team. I’m sure they’d jump ship in a heartbeat if they were given a team of their own.
My experience has been that there's a *lot* of Mariners fans here in BC, but we never get any sort of coverage thereof, because of the theory that 'all Canadians like the Blue Jays' that causes all other MLB teams to be ignored by the sports networks up here.
I think Oklahoma is one of the best choices. You mention that they were last in attendance for lass season, but now they are probably the most watched team in the league and are probably going to keep top 5 within the next 10 years. They are also known for great baseball teams much like they are for football. Oklahoma has some of the best baseball programs in the whole country heck I tried out for a high school/ middle summer league and it was like trying out for a college team. They tested everything. As much as I agree Mexico could handle a team, Mexico City isn’t the right choice. Considering how much grief we give Denver for it’s elevation killing pitching and super boosting power bats, Mexico City will do that plus even more. If they built a ballpark in Mexico City it would be over 2,000 ft above sea level HIGHER than Coors Field. Monterrey, home of the Sultanes, in my opinion, makes much more sense. Also worth noting that Monterrey is significantly closer to the rest of MLB than Mexico City. Mexico City is further away from Houston, it’s closest MLB market, than Seattle is to the Bat Area, which is currently the most isolated franchise in baseball

I would say Raleigh over Charlotte, Raleigh is more of an upcoming city and there’s also the Durham area. A team in Raleigh can get the young people to games, plus there’s NC State and Wake Forest along with UNC and Duke, even if the team is bad I think there would still be fans in Raleigh, plus there’s a lot of land to build. I read that they are building a shopping and residential complex by the Hurricanes stadium and a baseball stadium in that area would be perfect
Honestly, call me crazy, but, Regina Saskatchewan could easily support an MLB team, they're nuts about baseball here. Not a huge population, but they would forsure have more regular attendees then the Tampa Bay Ray's.

That's the same problems Mexico is going to have. I have a lot of doubts.
Interesting video, you had some good stats/insight on the topic. One thing I thought of, MLB could never expand to Mexico City. As much as it makes sense in so many ways (because it does) the one big issue is the elevation above sea level. Mexico City is nearly TWICE as high up as Colorado, which is already known as an extremely hitter-friendly place. The recent MLB exhibition games there were so fun and energetic, but the box score looked like they were playing against Little League pitchers. I wish it wasn’t so drastic, but it would just completely throw off the whole league to have a team play 81 games a year in Mexico City
I’d opt for Monterrey in Mexico. It doesn’t have the crazy altitude of Mexico City, and IRCC northern Mexico is generally a bit wealthier per capita and a bit more into baseball. It’s still a large city and the travel wouldn’t be as bad. Monterrey Metro area has 5.3 million people and it also has the largest baseball stadium in Mexico.
Thank you for mentioning Montreal. I lived there for 10 years and went to a lot of Expos games back in the 90s. I think it would do incredibly well in a division with Toronto, New York and Boston (and Baltimore and Tampa Bay). I think Montreal is trying to get a team using a quiet approach. They have media companies located there that could afford to buy a baseball team and build a stadium. It was sad that they lost their team to begin with. When they got the franchise for their first season in 1969, Montreal was still the largest city and metro area in Canada. I don't know if Toronto would be thrilled to have Montreal take a share of their TV revenues, but ask anyone in Quebec what their favourite baseball team is, and the Expos will be most people's answer. Heck, I live in Toronto and the Expos are still my favourite team. When people stopped caring about the team in the late 90s and 2000s, it was because ownership had destroyed the team so often and broke the hearts of the fans. Everyone knew the Expos were going to leave and that only stable ownership would keep them there, something that they didn't have back then after Charles Bronfman sold the team in 1991. Anyway, I hope Montreal gets a team back if only to kick Toronto's ass over and over again. Have a great day everyone.
Vancouver would be an excellent market, I think the Vancouver vs Seattle rivalry would do wonders. They would have to change the jumbotron but BC Place is very doable, they could also use the site that sits between Rogers Arena and BC Place. Prob wouldn't sell out but would prob have better attendance then some parks
I think realistically, Vancouver would need to build a dedicated MLB stadium were they to get a team. BC Place can be configured to hold a baseball game in a pinch, but I don’t think it’s really a viable full time mlb stadium. Would love to see a team in Vancouver someday tho!
@@Dreadlock1227 They do have the space across the street that they aren't using. The stadium wouldn't be hard to renovate but the problem is that the CFL/MLS season run concurrently to the MLB season
I live 40 miles south of Portland and I would love a mlb team in Portland. But Portland doesn't have the corporate dollars to support a team. NBA and the NHL would work, as you can see the support of the Blazers and Portland does like hockey a lot.
By the year 2038, I think MLB will expand to 40 teams, 20 in each league. The top choices, assuming the A's will move to Vegas. 1. Nashville 2. Portland 3. Salt Lake City 4. Charlotte 5. Vancouver 6. Buffalo 7. San Antonio 8. New Orleans 9. Indianapolis 10.Monterrey
If Montreal Baseball Group and Big League Utah award 2 expansion teams to Montreal and Salt Lake City for the 2028 MLB season, this is what the realignment will look like: AL East Baltimore Orioles Boston Red Sox New York Yankees Toronto Blue Jays AL North Chicago White Sox Cleveland Guardians Detroit Tigers Minnesota Twins AL South Houston Astros Kansas City Royals Tampa Bay Rays Texas Rangers AL West Las Vegas Athletics Los Angeles Angels Seattle Mariners Utah Bighorns NL East Montreal Expos New York Mets Philadelphia Phillies Washington Nationals NL North Chicago Cubs Cincinnati Reds Milwaukee Brewers Pittsburgh Pirates NL South Arizona Diamondbacks Atlanta Braves Miami Marlins St. Louis Cardinals NL West Colorado Rockies Los Angeles Dodgers San Diego Padres San Francisco Giants
There’s already a lot of Mariners fans in Portland, I wonder if it might be hard to not only convince them to switch teams but also root against their former team.
Portland doesn't even deserve a basketball team. With everything going on in that city from violent crime to homeless encampments sprawled out along major highways. Businesses in downtown Portland either folding all together or relocating due to rampant theft and they literally have no answer for it with LEO recruitment remaining low due to lowered morale. Portland is not a safe choice. Ted Wheeler is trying to get the A's toboost his election chances, and it won't work.
Here are 6 candidates for MLB expansion locations: Portland (left coast) Foresters, Vancouver Pacifics, Charlotte Knights, Memphis Spiders, Nashville Sounders, and Fort Wayne Hoosiers. Also, might it be time for the borough of Brooklyn, New York, to welcome back their beloved Dodgers, since the franchise left for the City of Angels/Tinseltown in 1958? New York with three MLB franchises again? We can only dream... Also, Columbus, Ohio, might qualify, ahead of placing an MLB franchise in the Hoosier State...What might they be called, other than the Buckeyes? Hence, Bloomington, Indiana, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, would be out of the picture. The Ohio State University Buckeyes, located in Columbus, may have naming rights claim over any professional MLB team, as would as would the Indiana Hoosiers, in Bloomington, Indiana. The Ohio State University Buckeyes, located in Columbus, may have naming rights claim over any professional MLB team.

New Orleans has always been considered a Houston Astros town. Before every season, the Astros have a travel caravan and one of the cities they go to is New Orleans. So, New Orleans is the Astros town. Same with San Antonio. I would love a team in San Antonio. They support their teams.
Personally if MLB expands to Asia i think baseball in India is a great move. A load of people who are massive sports fans and its probably not gonna be difficult to take cricket fans and explain baseball. Never gonna happen but an inteuguing idea

Please never call Utah a midwestern state, those are fighting words
Did i call utah a midwest state? Thats my bad. i know geography, i passed 4th grade i swear
@@HardCapGames it’s okay, my stepbrother made the same mistake, and I roasted the hell out of him for it

I live 40 miles south of Portland and I would love a mlb team in Portland. But Portland doesn't have the corporate dollars to support a team. NBA and the NHL would work, as you can see the support of the Blazers and Portland does like hockey a lot.
I like Columbus Ohio...and realignment of entire Baseball league...
Monterrey, Mexico would be the best place in Mexico its the location of both Modelo and Corona imagine the money for a beer sponser there
Another gamer with a head for baseball, love to see it
🙏
By the year 2038, I think MLB will expand to 40 teams, 20 in each league. The top choices, assuming the A's will move to Vegas.
1. Nashville
2. Portland
3. Salt Lake City
4. Charlotte
5. Vancouver
6. Buffalo
7. San Antonio
8. New Orleans
9. Indianapolis
10.Monterrey
40 is too many. It will dilute the talent.
@@lakebay972 There will be a lot of talent by then.
If Montreal Baseball Group and Big League Utah award 2 expansion teams to Montreal and Salt Lake City for the 2028 MLB season, this is what the realignment will look like:
AL East
Baltimore Orioles
Boston Red Sox
New York Yankees
Toronto Blue Jays
AL North
Chicago White Sox
Cleveland Guardians
Detroit Tigers
Minnesota Twins
AL South
Houston Astros
Kansas City Royals
Tampa Bay Rays
Texas Rangers
AL West
Las Vegas Athletics
Los Angeles Angels
Seattle Mariners
Utah Bighorns
NL East
Montreal Expos
New York Mets
Philadelphia Phillies
Washington Nationals
NL North
Chicago Cubs
Cincinnati Reds
Milwaukee Brewers
Pittsburgh Pirates
NL South
Arizona Diamondbacks
Atlanta Braves
Miami Marlins
St. Louis Cardinals
NL West
Colorado Rockies
Los Angeles Dodgers
San Diego Padres
San Francisco Giants
It is a matter of When not If Baseball returns to Montreal. Unless WWIII Happens and the MLB Becomes Defunct.
Really enjoyed your analysis. I especially like when you briefly touched upon the stadium situations where applicable.
The reason why Mexico probably won’t get an MLB team is because the altitude problem
Give Favorites ! Montreal ! Nashville , Austin! Salt Lake City ! Portland , Louisville !
What about a MLB and NPB merger or adding an entire third league of international cities.
Add Portland to the AL West, and you've instantly got a regional rivalry with Seattle.
There’s already a lot of Mariners fans in Portland, I wonder if it might be hard to not only convince them to switch teams but also root against their former team.
Add Nashville to the NL East, and suddenly the Braves have a regional rival as well.
Las vegas (decent sized population, massive amouts of corporate support for sports, and set up for easy flights and stays for travelling fans)
I did say i wasn't talking about Vegas since that deal is already done
mls is 4th division league, in other words is minor league
CAROLINA COPPERHEADS... MAKE IT HAPPEN MLB
Bro mentions duke and UNC but not NC State when talking abt Raleigh...
I earnestly and honestly forgot they were in raleigh when making this
I would love an MLB team in Salt lake city.
If New Orleans got an mlb team i would hope they'd build a domed stadium. I can't imagine playing there in the summer with that humidity
Twenty Oneth?
I’m a huge Pokémon fan weirdly and also love sports so, I’ll give you a sub man! Let me know if you ever wanna link up and collaborate or something if you need a cohost or something 🤣 good luck!
Love it! I’m in Raleigh and I’d love a team to come here! They would have to be my number 2 through because Braves for life
Raleigh? 😂😂😂😂 I live here and hell no! My hometown Nashville will definitely get the team! Raleigh just doesn’t have the support or infrastructure!
@@BryantBaudelaire yeah because it’s not the second fastest growing city in the nation or anything. Definitely doesn’t have a metro area with an estimated population of well over over 2 million by 2030. And for SURE doesn’t have a thriving NHL team already. Good call!
@@birdinflight3861 Yeah but I live in Raleigh and it's playing catchup. We've (in Nashville) have already passed 2.1 million just in our MSA. Raleigh's MSA won't be 2 million by 2030 unless you beg Durham to join the MSA again but that won't happen. Nashville will forever be the bigger and better city. Raleigh doesn't really draw people to come here. the triangle has a lower GDP than Nashville alone. Like Nashville isn't one of the top fastest growing cities and metro areas in the country. Raleigh doesn't even have good tourism. it's just bland with no kind of culture at all. Raleigh has horrible infrastructure compared to much larger cities like Nashville, Charlotte, and Austin. I live in Raleigh and I don't see it happening here plus not a chance in hell of beating out a real city like Nashville! ain't happening!
Why did you revisit this 8 months later lol
@@HardCapGames Clearly he spent the 8 months composing that novel
I can't imagine anyone in the Carolinas are going to abandon Braves country for an expansion team...
Instead of expanding into Japan, merge the 2 leagues.
New Orleans has always been considered a Houston Astros town. Before every season, the Astros have a travel caravan and one of the cities they go to is New Orleans. So, New Orleans is the Astros town. Same with San Antonio. I would love a team in San Antonio. They support their teams.
PR needs a team
Personally if MLB expands to Asia i think baseball in India is a great move. A load of people who are massive sports fans and its probably not gonna be difficult to take cricket fans and explain baseball. Never gonna happen but an inteuguing idea
Portland has too many problems. Just as bad if not worse than Oakland to put a baseball team.
Indianapolis also hosts the NCAA final four every few years, right around when the MLB season starts. That would make things tricky to get a team there
More traffic but also more visitors for opening weekend
I hope that OKC gets one…sick of having to root for out of state scrubs
