I continually find the parallels between puppy training and child rearing interesting: focusing on the positive, setting them up for success, “catch” them being good to reinforce the behaviors you like, making sure they have a lot of mental and physical exercise as well as a healthy diet, and most important is the loving bond.

Within 2 days my dog buddy has stopped barking , sits when asked, sleeps on his own, doesn't beg at mealtimes, I didn't use the chain in the house or a cage just used the treats and eye contact . Amazing so glad I found you . Keep up the good work. Keeley from Sheffield,UK
Can you do a video that models the ideal routine of someone working full time? For example, showing what you would do in the morning, how you situate them when you leave (toys, treats, etc), what you would do when you come back during lunch, and then again when you return in the evening. Also, if you use a two way camera and see them getting worked up while you're out, do you try to interact with them through the camera?

I have been watching your videos since end of June last year because i got a lovely labrador, Lola. She knows your voice now and she truly enjoys watching your videos 😊 🐕🦺🐾💕
Inertia is literally the goal!!! I've been watching her since i got my BC puppy a little over a month ago. Your videos are so helpful and YES! They 100% work! My pup can now sit and lay down without luring. Leave it, recall and stay command are improving too! Now, just like inertia, my pup loves chewing my shoes and pants too! 😅 still got a long way to go but I'm so glad I found this channel. Thank you!
I have no formal teaching when it comes to training dogs. I have successfully trained several myself. Everything this guy says is true. Consistency is everything. I figured this all out the hard way, save yourself the trouble, watch and follow this video.
I haven't trained a puppy in a long time, but lost my 2 Bernese last year. My Christmas puppy arrived in January, Goldendoodle, so, so different from the Berners in most ways! They were regal beasts and little Lincoln is the court jester! These lessons are so good for me and Lincoln, upbeat, kind, gentle, and fun. Just a couple of days watching and trying and remembering and Lincoln is a better puppy already. Thank you Zak
I've been planning on getting a puppy so I've been binge watching these videos. My sister experienced resource guarding in her nearly two year old min pin when she got a new type of bone and I knew exactly what advice to give her! It was so exciting to realize I've had some real take aways from these videos already!
I absolutely love this summary!! I got my first dog about 6 months ago and whenever people comment on how well trained he is (#prouddogmom 🤓💙) I always reference to YOU, as we "grew up on" Inertia's videos. This is such a great video that summarizes your philosophy and actually HOW to do it. There were some things that I trained/train a bit differently than how you did, but the choir ideas presented in this videos are always there. It's amazing to bond with my first dog so strongly. Thank you!!
This channel has helped me so much with training my German shepherd puppy. I watch other channels, too, and I don’t shy away from using training collars because they are very effective, but other channels just don’t spend the time to explain how to get the dog to motivate itself to do what you want instead of motivating itself to avoid things that it doesn’t want. Both are good methods, but it’s just so nice to have my dog want to do things just because she knows I want her to do them. After all, she’s usually free from any kind of training collar most of the day, so it’s nice that she still responds even when she knows I physically can’t deliver any corrections.
I started using positive reinforcement with my Velcro dogs and started praising every thing they did right and they freaking blossomed into such good dogs
I have a 10 month old lab, "Joey". He is at his best behaviour because of Zak's videos. There have been times when i think the training is not going anywhere and i'm getting frustrated. But then i look at Zak's video and he honestly admits that even for him it doesn't go as planned at times. So thumbs-up to the best set of dog training videos out there. Watching these gave me the confidence to bring "Joey" into our lives. Side effect of these training videos - I'm raising a stickler for belly rubs. He seldom barks at strangers, and if they call him by his name, he happily will run towards them wagging his tail to play. Double-facepalm.

Hey Zak I’ve watched your videos for years and have your books. Ever since I started training my dog with your tips and he has improved so much. Thx and keep up the good work! 😃😁
I love watching Inertia and Kona! Such beautiful intelligent dogs; and Kona is so sweet. Zak has a great video personality, there is an amazing amount of valuable content; and Bree's talent as a videographer is the icing on the cake.
I have a puppy and I have been watching your videos to try and train her. Along with my adult dog who counter surfs when I am not around. I have found your content very helpful. Thank you for doing what you do!
I have been watching your videos for a long time and they helped me through puppyhood :) Zak is so inspiring that I've become a part time dog trainer as a hobby/job
1 year later and I feel like my partner and I are still at a standstill with training. I believe in positive reinforcements and have gotten far with it. Our dog is smart and learns fast. My partner...uses scolding, which my dog could care less about, and isn't understanding that you have to set aside time to do training and it it will take more than 5 tries. So training is going slow because we're taking two different approaches and she's almost...setting me back in the advances that I make.
Don't beat yourself up. ZG gives truly horrendous training advice for everyday living behavior. Can he teach a dog to jump on his back? Yep! Can I? Nope! But my dog is relaxed at home, has no neurosis, comes when called, and is about to spend the weekend camping with the leash hanging up back at home. Ditch this guy he fails dogs.
Your approach makes so much sense! Thank you for sharing your expertise. We have incorporated your methods with our dogs and have improved our lives together so much. ❤💙💜

Thank you for all the useful informations Zak. I like your view of positive reinforcement dog training a lot. ❤️ I have been training my dogs with positive reinforcement since I was 14 years old. It is sooo much fun for all of us. ☺️
I've been binge watching your videos. I think I've heard you use the word "No" maybe one time. "Yessssss!" probably a thousand. Good video, i enjoyed hearing you explain your philosophy of training.
Thank you for listing out those training tips Ive been preaching that for decades and it's the easiest way to train and love that they're basically in order of importance and especially with herding dogs-even great when they're a little bit older and definitely for when they're reserved with strangers... positive reinforcement like that is definitely the way to go
While I have spent time around and near dogs my whole life, I'm about to become a new dog mom. I've been watching your videos with Inertia as well as other training videos for the past 3 months. I've learned a great deal. Thank you. I don't know how good a dog mom I'm gonna be in about 10 weeks. I'd hope I'm a good one. I at least have the confidence that I have the knowledge to approach the situation with the best foot forward.
I know I have been lucky but my Shih Tzu was 10 weeks old when I brought her home and she slept through the night starting on day two. I played and played with her right before bedtime to burn off energy. Lily is now 17 weeks old. She isn't as trained as well as I would like her to be, my fault, but you really are helping her and me to give her the training she needs.
This is amazing for new puppies or dogs without a history of aggression but what about a large, reactive, aggressive rescue dog with a possible trauma history who needs lots of exercise and you live in a crowded city? 😅Different dogs have different needs. You can use positive AND negative reinforcement, if that helps your dog, and you can do it humanly and compassionately. Even just using the leash is technically negative reinforcement. So why not be super clear with your dog and communicate with them with other methods as well, if need be? I use an e collar on super low stimulation (I can’t even feel it on myself- it’s basically an annoying tickle) and it has truly transformed my dog in a really short period of time. He’s happier, super playful and goofy, knows what’s expected of him, more confident, and looks to me for leadership. He knows that I protect him and advocate for him, so he doesn’t need to be aggressive all the time. And I don’t use force, and ALSO use treats/play/affection as rewards! I just am so disappointed to see so many “positive reinforcement only” trainers make blanket statements about e collars and other tools when in reality they can help so many dogs stay out of shelters and lead happy lives. Modern e collars are not “shock collars.” Shock collars used to basically have 3 levels (pain, more pain, most pain). Now, most good e collars go from zero to 100 and most balanced trainers only use them on very low levels, and always paired with verbal commands or directional leash cues. I can now let my dog off leash in busy public parks and he is so happy and free and can just be a dog. Am I saying e collars are for all dogs? Absolutely not!!! Especially not puppies! But when you have a rescue dogs with very serious aggression, sometimes you can’t “control the environment” like Zack says so you have to look for alternative solutions. I just wish the stigma against e collars would subside bc they can be life saving tools for some dogs.

I have a Siberian Husky pup and my goal from the start has always been positive reinforcement. At less than 5 months she understood sit, come, shake, and was about halfway with lay down. I taught her both verbal and nonverbal commands for each. Now I’m struggling to find a way to discourage destructive behavior while I am not at home. She has plenty of toys but she has been very resistant to kennel training as of yet. Which also means she’s resistant to potty training. Boy husky pups are crazy😂😂
I’m new to this and I have one catahoula leopard and one catahoula (female and male)that are 9 months old. I try to play with them all the time since I been off work lately and when I’m at work they find ways to always get out the yard and they roam together everywhere. They learn VERY QUICK but only listen when they want to. They learned sit, paw, down, stay all within 3 days but only does it inside. And only if a treat is involved. If no treat they won’t listen as much lol. And if we’re outside they will run off and not look back when I’m trying to call them.
I got ahead with my dog's training after reading Found out how to stop my dog from jumping on people. Learned that you quick turn your back on the dog when they jump and leave the room through the door. When dog finally stops jumping you give him a treat.
hey zak, my 5 month old aussie would DEFINITELY be your biggest challenge. he is absolutely UNTRAINABLE he is rebellious, and barks at EVERYTHING, and i wishhh you could try one video on him, but you’ll probably never see this !
I have used your excellent videos to train my cavalier since he was a puppy. Now he is going deaf and not hearing "leave it" or recall etc. Would love a video on helping dogs as they age.
Thoughts on the mentality of “your dog your business keep the family out of it” and thoughts on how a good family structure with a dog should be referring to cooperation with the dog etc..
I want to fully learn how to train our new puppy before brining them home. I've raised cats my whole life and they have always responded well to training. I have never had a dog and I want to give them the best life possible. Any tips of raising a King Charles Spaniels would be greatly appreciated. I can't wait to start this journey with my new best friend so thank you for the help!
We've learned so much to help our dog and us thru these videos and the books. What do you do when the dog gets the zoomies in your house, I try to stay calm get the leash on and go play somewhere more appreciate. Why is this almost always at night, when its time to go to bed.
its not dog food its human food its horrible for a dog they are carnivores they should be eating raw meat they need protein ,fat and bone. anything else is abusive
I continually find the parallels between puppy training and child rearing interesting: focusing on the positive, setting them up for success, “catch” them being good to reinforce the behaviors you like, making sure they have a lot of mental and physical exercise as well as a healthy diet, and most important is the loving bond.
Omg I completely agree

I found it interesting with been a old school working dog trainer I believe in balance love and training
Perfect timing! Planning on getting a dog soon
hey zak, my 5 month old aussie would DEFINITELY be your biggest challenge. he is absolutely UNTRAINABLE he is rebellious, and barks at EVERYTHING, and i wishhh you could try one video on him, but you’ll probably never see this !

Thank you for this. Tomorrow I get my first dog of my life. Olde English Bulldog.
Dogs are our link to paradise!
I have used your excellent videos to train my cavalier since he was a puppy. Now he is going deaf and not hearing "leave it" or recall etc. Would love a video on helping dogs as they age.
I know this is an old comment but my trainer said make sure you use hand signals when training so if they do lose hearing they can see the signal
There are many online / high priced training programs...and I learn so much from YOU for FREE. (no Shannon and I are not perfect, yet)
This is so useful thank you so much! I'm getting my first dog soon, it's a goldador.
Thank you so so much for this!!!!
Thoughts on the mentality of “your dog your business keep the family out of it” and thoughts on how a good family structure with a dog should be referring to cooperation with the dog etc..
Wish I had seen this video years ago. Lots of stuff I learned the hard way.
Thank you Zac!! Still working on playing and bonding w my 1 year old Airedale.
I trust this dude
You're the best, Zak!!

Awesome tips Zak Love the way u teach her😊
I want to fully learn how to train our new puppy before brining them home.
I still think it's hilarious how Zak always eats dog food 😂😆
Thanks for helping me with my puppy
its not dog food its human food its horrible for a dog they are carnivores they should be eating raw meat they need protein ,fat and bone. anything else is abusive
@@soniasandoval7495 Aw us? If so thanks so much! That means the world! (Sorry that we responded late)
