  • Scalloping in Florida is something I've been wanting to do for a long time. In this adventure I find myself camped on a uninhabited island in a popular scalloping are, St. Joeseph Bay. Just east of Mexico Beach Florida which was devastated by hurricane Micheal just weeks after I was here....

    Man, I'm so glad I came across your channel. Love your attitude and positive energy!! Those crab traps, lol... fun stuff! Out here in California, always planned to do some diving but, unfortunately in 2015 I had 2 brain surgeries and they told me I could never go diving again, or swimming underwater due to pressure on my skull possibly causing a seizure or stroke. But you're very inspiring! I may ease my way back into the water. Even if it just some shallow stuff in our rivers, lakes, or along the coast! #Blessings to you, man! Keep up the good work and videos!🙏🏾✌🏿👍🏿

      You make it back in the water yet my friend? I'd say you'd definitely be safe for some shallow water fun as pressure doesnt build much in the first 10-15 ft.....i have countless friends who have been told they'd never do this or that again in their whole life and a couple years they were back doing what they love so dont take any doctors word as gospel....good luck I hope your conditions allow a safe return to the wild!

    gather some sea grass in your mesh bag, put the bag on top of the crabs and it will keep them cool, calm, and hydrated fresh more easily until you get home/camp. sea-grass or seaweed is a natural insulator... splash it ever so often with saltwater and your good for 3 -4 hours...add a wet towel over top 4-5 hrs live (just keep splashing them) 30 yrs+ experience, I'm 40 y.o.

    Been waiting for this video! We saw your truck at the kayak launch, and camped on the same island! not sure if it was the same night. We camped on the end of the island out from that sailboat and too ate raw scallops! They were actually good and sweet. Day two we found the spot and harvested a few gallons but they were picked through. Also got into a school of redfish on the backside of the island. Great video! Next year I'm going early and cashing in!

    Until fish and game enlightened me to the bag limit. I was young and stupid

    When I was a kid my father taught me that if we ran out of TP (and it has happened!) to use leaves for taking a dump. Use green leaves but make sure you know which are which. The last thing you need to do is pick up some poison oak leaves or something! You can use brown leaves but they break up easily. Then you have all that water to clean up, just in case something goes horribly wrong.

    • @TripSmith
      @TripSmith  5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Trip, take you a piece of meat (raw) my Grand maw always used a chicken neck tie it to a string and just sit there on your floating devise and throw that meat that's tied to the string out in the water, when the crab gets on it it will try to take the meat with it and the line ( string) will slowly tighten up and you just start easing the string in toward you,and simply with a dip net scoop the crab up when it gets with in reach,I realize you are performing for a video but this works....Johnny B.
