  • Bigger, lighter and better, the new Dzire compact sedan is more grown up than before. Gavin D'Souza finds out if it has what it takes to stay at the top of the segment. And the sales charts
Note: Although we did drive all variants of the new Dzire, we used a blue ZXi+ AGS (petrol AMT) as the reference car for the shoot due to time constraints. All driving impressions were formed in the correct variants.

    Hi everyone,
Since a lot of you are asking, allow me to clear it up. There are actually 2 blue cars in this video - one is a ZXi+ AGS (petrol AMT) and the other is a ZDi+ AGS (diesel AMT).
Because of a very tight driving and filming schedule, and because Maruti wanted us to try all 4 variants of the car in a short span of time, we had to film the exterior shots with the petrol ZXi+, while my driving impressions from behind the wheel were actually in the diesel ZDi+.
In fact, the only time you see the outside of the blue diesel car (and hear it too) is at 04:38 when I climb out of it and into the grey petrol car.
Understandably this has led to some confusion, and we apologise for that, but unfortunately sometimes this is what we have to do on a tight schedule. We were happy to at least get a car of the same colour.
And just for reference, the grey car is in fact the petrol manual, and the diesel manual was red, but we never got a chance to film it.
Hope that clears things up :)

There should have a drive over bumpers, because I'm quite sure with this reduced height the underbelly of the car will bear lots of pain. Not to mention it might get stuck on some high bumpers!

It's nice that you've been very positive about this car. But it would've been great if
    1) You spoke about negative aspect (if any) about the car.
    2) You talked about ground clearance.
    3) You mentioned how spacious is the back seat considering different heights of people, which is talked about in most Autocar videos.
    4) You could've showed us the boot instead of just calling it spacious.

Thanks for your comment. No, you're right, but there is a third car in the video - also blue - which is a ZDi+ AMT.

the reason maruti cars are light, is because they use thin sheet metal to save on material costs. also, their frame uses comparatively lesser steel than say a volkswagen's and hence is thinner and lighter. the noise deadening carpets are also of a lesser quality in a maruti and lots of road and engine noise creeps into the cabin and the NVH levels are really high.
these measures are great for fuel economy but terrible in case of a crash.
after years of driving a dzire, i drove a polo recently and i was amazed by the quality and safety on offer. also, the cabin feels much more solid and safe somehow. even the doors are on the heavier side and close with a reassuring thump, as opposed to the rattle like way in which the dzire doors close. the tires on the base model of the polo are 185mm in width. which i think is only available in top model of dzire. also, the ABS system works so smoothly on a polo compared to the crappy ABS of maruti cars.
i dont think i will go for a maruti product again keeping in mind how they cut corners with regards to materials and safety. i can live with 10-15% higher fuel consumption but safety is not an option to be compromised on.
I am not a fanboy or a hater. i am an owner of the 2012 Dzire myself. but i was shocked by my findings and i am just sharing my findings and personal experience for everyone's benefit.

    • @shadymike88
      @shadymike88 7 ปีที่แล้ว

observe how the mileage keeps increasing with every release, even though the engines have been pretty much the same for almost a decade.
it is because of skimping on the materials.

  • @99oscarfish

    Job well done Suzuki!
When other car makers are making such competitive machines, I guess it was time for you to notch it up!
Though the dzire anyway the best selling car in India, it was a shoddy piece of equipment, quite honestly!
Some critical angles on the car-
(1)Boot reminiscent of the Honda Amaze!
    (2) Inconsistent materials on the interior
    (3) I'm 6 feet tall and I cannot sit on the rear seat as far as head room is concerned, but, there's a generous amount of leg room therefore I can definitely stretch out, thus avoiding bumps on my head when the car hits potholes!
    Good points-
    (1) Space!!!
    There's surprisingly lots of it!
For the taller passengers, this is a boon!
    (2) Consistent exterior design
    (3) Steering wheel looks very refreshing and new!

    Dear Sir,
I want to purchase my first car. I am mainly interested in buying NEW DZIRE 2017 but I am very much confused regarding whether I should I go for manual transmission or Auto Gear shift (AGS) Transmission. As AGS is costing 50K more but has convenience. I am having following common doubts please:
1). whether 50K is worth spending on AGS? Investment on AGS shouldn’t be regretful in near future.
2). What are the maintenance charges for AGS with respect to the manual transmission?
3). Is it durable or not?
4).will it be easy and maintain to use for daily purpose ride?
5). Whether the performance of AGS wrt to manual is promising for long life of 10 years or so? As previous versions of AMTs have faced a lot of problems.
6). Whats are the problems generally are being faced in AGS with respect to performance and maintainability?
Please help me by clearing the confusion so that I can buy the car confidently?
    Regards
    B K Dubey

The blue car in the video is ZXi+ that means petrol. But the person reviewing is telling it's diesel. Strange to know this.

yes because the petrol was used for filming, but we did drive the diesel as well.
