    Woah, we gotta double back on the kimono thing. She didn't just use the word "kimono"-- she tried to LEGALLY TRADEMARK IT. The word "kimono". Which existed before her brand. Spelled no different than before. Group-think aside, you cannot tell me that her PR team slept that hard.

      yeah like I often hear from Japanese folx that wearing kimono yourself, when done correctly, is not a problem. but trying to make a profit off of it and certainly going so far as to try and trademark it is far beyond the bounds of appropriation and taste.

      This is way less important than the cultural disgrace Kim was trying to get away with, but I actually like the name Skims more than kimono. I feel like it actually represents the line more than the former name did. I heard that she was going to do robes and underwear which is why she wanted to use kimono, but I feel like there’s still plenty of room for that with the name Skims. I’m glad Kim wasn’t able to trademark the name

    I will say that just because Good American or any brand for that matter is produced here in the United States doesn’t mean it’s free from inhumane conditions. It’s been proven that LA is actually a huge center for garment worker violations. A lot of people think it only happens in India or China or overseas, but it actually happens right in our backyard a lot more frequently than people think! I haven’t researched her brand enough to know, just wanted to add some more information because I’m very passionate about garment workers and human rights! 💕

    It should be noted that Agave farmers in Mexico have spoken out about the boom of celebrity tequilas. First of all, a lot of celebrities are not actually very involved in the process, so they don't really understand the process of making tequila. Second, as there is a boom in tequila production, there needs to be enough agave to keep up. Expanding these agave farms is destroying the environment ( through deforestation and industry farming ) as well as killing agave quality. It takes approx. 7 years to fully mature agave for tequila harvest. Now factories and companies are pushing early harvest, which is harmful to the farm. Finally, most of these are vodka based tequilas, so they aren't even good tequila.

Knowing this she makes a tweet hyping up that she was “coming out”. When In fact it was just her “revealing” she had acne and her partnership with Proactiv. It’s not exactly a scam but it’s probably the worst way you can ever choose to promote a skin care line. Which BTW after that commercial she has never mentioned it again.

    I actually have my own story with Poosh. So a few years ago when it was first being launched, I decided to go through the website and read some articles. And there was one article on DIY hair masks for different hair types and as someone who constantly dyes their hair (so my hair always coarse and destroyed), I love a good hair mask. My mom and I both decided to try these hair masks at home. And I made mine by following the video linked to a T, like I made it perfectly. And wouldn’t you know it? It was awful!! It completely wrecked my hair, even more than before. I washed out the mask and dried my hair and cried to my mom about how she shouldn’t do it. That was the last time I trusted a Kardashian with anything

The Kardashians have been related (and still are )to SO many shady businesses, problematic merchandises and scams that screwed up a lot of people…but almost nobody cares bc nobody seriously questioned them about that …simply bc too many people are more interested in their scandals and private lives. Plus, knowing that they made and are still making tones of money out of it is just 🤮. That’s pretty annoying.

      Definitely not. I think she envisions herself through her daughters and hence why through that connection, she was able to brand them as entrepreneurs, or at least thats what she claims them to be. She literally spoke about how she came from a family of strong women who were all business-minded and entrepreneurs and she passed it on to her kids: she speaks about selling candles etc before the show, so pretty much being business minded. I think something that definitely captures how she has 'envisioned' herself through her daughters is that one playboy episode with Kim where she sort of forced Kim to do a nude scene: Kim was very uncomfortable and she (Kim) herself said "this is just your dream" and Kris admitted that she would have loved a playboy shoot. The Kardashians success is through Kris's fantasy of moulding her daughters into what she wanted and aspired to become: also helps because she has great wisdom and advice from just living her life and her business experiences before the Kardashian show.

I’m a daughter of Mexican immigrants and a self-proclaimed tequila connoisseur and that brand is just an overall nope. I am sorry but please tell me how is she appropriating Mexican culture by making a tequila brand? Like aren’t there black people having pizza places? (Appropriating Italian culture according to your logic) or Asian people in their restaurants having Arab food? Or people of any color having vodka brands? (Appropriating Polish/Russian culture) like don’t get me wrong, for the most part I agree with the points made in the video, but this one with Kendall is completely stupid. Riding a horse and wearing clothes that are known in that place is appropriation? Or just marketing that compliments the whole picture. Completely stupid point made from a very American point of view.
      I just want to add that I am not saying anything about the taste or price because simply I don’t know neither of them, it’s not in my country.

Don Julio is my tried and true brand, the 70 is great more mild and balanced in flavor. 1942 is also excellent, but has gotten overpriced after so many influencers started talking about it; used to get a bottle of it for $65-85 but on average I’ve seen it at $130+, saw it priced for $200 the other day. For that price, I would rather do the Don Julio Real. If you like something sweet to ease you in, Addictivo añejo and extra añejo are like honey. Both are super easy to either sip on the rocks or shoot.

      @FifthAveAtFive 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@annakowalska4057 It’s appropriation because she is taking elements of Mexican culture and wearing them like a costume in order to make a profit. The marketing features her dressing up as a jimadora through darkened skin, clothes, color and lighting edits, etc. She is trying to come across as Mexican to sell a product, which was made by Mexican labor and is deeply tied to the Mexican economy, but upon launch she said would only be sold in the US. Thus literally excluding the people that made the product from being able to purchase it and instead exploiting the culture. This is being a colonizer.
      Now, one friend’s family is south Asian and owns a Tex-mex restaurant. But not no point did they dress up as if my culture was a costume in order to promote their business. They are also immigrants, like my family. Additionally Tex-mex is different from Mexican food and being in Texas, Tex-mex is one of the dominant cultures so since they are from a marginalized group that adapted to the dominant culture and did not make a caricature of it for their own gain, it is not appropriation. Appropriation isn’t just dressing up as a different culture, it’s taking that culture reducing it to costume for some gain (ex: social standing, monetary) while also being from a more privileged/powerful group. And between the US and Mexico, the US has more power, privilege, and influence and the Kardashians are one of the families at the top.
      HipLatina has a column on this with more details and comparisons with other US celebrity-owned brands to illustrate why Kendall’s is a particularly egregious.

    Hi home sewist here popping in to say that if I made someone a pair of jeans they'd have to pay me at least $300 if not more for not only materials (granted Good American most likely gets bulk discounts) that can run up to $100+, but also my time and sewing expertise. I think we have SUCH a skewed view of what clothes "should" cost when... honestly anything less than $100 per pair of jeans (and I'm being VERY generous with fabric costs) most likely has exploitative working conditions. Jeans/bottoms are also one of the most difficult pieces of clothing to fit, so the development of patterns also needs to be taken into account. Just because we're not used to paying what clothes actually SHOULD cost doesn't mean they're overpriced!
    As others have pointed out, it's not like the USA isn't free from exploitative conditions either, so I do sincerely hope every single person who works for Good American is making at LEAST a living wage.

I would also be interested in looking into some of their scandals, more related to personal life, but it would be interesting to see if there is a constant pattern of behaviour or have they learned and showed a change in behaviour. For example, they have constantly been caught & criticized for photoshopping their photos, however, they repeatedly continue to do it, on the other side, they have been accused for culture appropriation on countless occasions and I feel like in most cases they may not repeat the same act of cultural appropriation, however, they continue to do it, so again clearly are not learning nor understanding what they are doing wrong. that is just my take, but I would be interested to see that all in a timeline type video and looking into their reactions after being criticized.

I think it’s amazing this woman is such a huge part of their brands but you never see her “hanging out” with them on Instagram etc. Emma just seems like a business woman who wants a private life and I respect it
