Studio Drift FRANCHISE FREEDOM at Burning Man

- Franchise Freedom, a flying sculpture at Burning Man 2018
In their work Studio Drift often contemplates the concept of freedom. Franchise Freedom visualizes the connection between a group and the individual by mimicking a swarm of starlings.
As dusk fell over Black Rock City, 600 luminous drones rose into a hypnotic display of technological choreography, accompanied by the poignant keys of Joep Beving. The drones were guided by a specially made algorithm that simultaneously allows both individual choice and movement as a group. The innovative technology made it possible to create a 3d image in the sky that could be viewed from multiple angles.

So much meaning for me in this music. First I heard this beautiful song when it was first released. I cried because of its beauty, then next year I’m made it to my first BM and got invited to a wedding of my friends where unknown pianist played it again the Beaty of coincidence and magic of the burning man… the meaning is we are deeply connected with each other and sometimes we appear to get the dance together for some time to be separated again …
Thank you so much for this masterpiece it brought such a deep experience and range of feelings and transformed my mindset
I am a burner, went there nine seasons, it is an experience that has no equal. It enriches . one. I met Larry Harvey a few times, just in passing, but with deep respect. He blessed us all, and we helped make his dream. Any reference to Burning Man, such as this one, makes me weep with gratitude. May Burning Man continue to thrive - it benefits mankind.

I’ll never forget peddling my bike faster and faster racing out deeper and deeper to witness this, my eyes fixated and staring mesmerized into the sky.... I rode so fast that when I turned around to talk to the group, I realized I had ditched them and was separated lost in the deep playa alone with beautiful piano music and Studio Drift’s flying artwork .... thank you for this special moment. )’(=❤️

We saw this off in the distance and had no idea what it was, when we found out it was drones we were astounded! This is one of the coolest things I've seen in my life! So magical :)

this was my favorite art piece on the playa this year. i get tears every time i watch a new video of it. so beautiful in statement and execution, and so complicated. just wonderful.
There was too much wind on the night I tried to view this, and the performance was cancelled. On the playa, the magic happens when it does, and blesses you if you happen to be there.

anyone know what drone and/or camera was used to film the drone swarm portion at night?
Awesome! Does anyone know where to hire a drone show? If that's what it's called.
Is this the Intel product? Or does it lack the ground-mast telemetry/guidance?
