    Leeds was the one show over 2 hours classic tracks with the Tommy rock opera sandwiched in the middle. The audio of this is from Leeds Feb 14 1970 but the footage is from the Isle of Wight Aug 29 1970.

    LIVE AT LEEDS was recorded at Leeds University on February 14, 1970. There was only the one show there. They also played an almost identical set at Hull the following night.
    The entire Leeds show is available in it's entirety. But if that's too much to begin with, the original 6 track album is - in my mind anyway - the greatest live album ever. Check out the LAL version of "Young Man Blues" (or the filmed ISLE OF WIGHT rendition), "Summertime Blues", "Shaking All Over", or the 14+ minute "My Generation". They will blow your mind.

    John Entwistle was THE greatest bass guitarist of all time. And was a big reason The Who had such a massive sound.

      @David Bradley Yep. The only part he would have enjoyed was when Moonie comes in and then the full on jam section towards the end.

      Ox never really thought of himself as a bass player. He was an excellent guitarist before the Who got together and always considered himself a guitar player who just played in a lower register

    • @davescurry69
      @davescurry69 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @randyfergus8781 I agree that he was more a bass guitarist that a bassist. He wasn't a guitarist prior to The Who though (or The Detours). His instruments before picking up a bass were French horn and trumpet. He chose bass because he thought the twangy guitar sound on Nelson Eddy's records were from a bass, not a guitar.
      He was never a guitarist. Not before learning bass guitar, anyway.

      @@davescurry69 I knew he had a background with brass instruments and it seems the a lot of bass players started out on trumpet. I wasn't aware of the guitar part either until recently watching an in-depth interview with Pete Townsend, He said that he, John , and Roger all played guitar. However, since they all three couldn't all three by the featured guitarist and Pete was the best of the three and Roger could really sing, John made his low end debut

    • @davescurry69
      @davescurry69 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @randyfergus8781 I don't doubt that Pete said it. And I'm sure that John could play guitar, it's just in sure I've seen old interviews with John where ha said he chose the bass initially because of the Duane Eddy thing. And when he started playing bass he realised there were no solos! He soon changed that.
      Plus, when Roger said he asked John to join his band, John was already playing bass. John then asked Roger if his guitarist friend Pete could join too.

    Try Young Man Blues at Isle of Wight.
    Or A Quick one while he's away at Rolling Stones Rock & Roll Circus.
    Or... all The Who's live performances between 1967 and 1971, with Moon at his apex.

    I really like The Who. But not knowing everything. I only have the album Who’s Next. There was a concert the other day in our country. A lot of new band. But also The Who was invited as the classic act. All agreed like you that the energy is besides their talent is their trademark. It was said the bands from now can learn from them about the energy it requires to perform a rock concert. Still as *old* geeks they had more energy then some band of youngsters. I wish I was there on the concert. Great artists. I Like the change up of bands, styles and reactions. Great channel you guys.

    I love The Who, - I think that listening to classic rock radio ruined me on them because they played "Baba O'Reilly" and "Won't Get Fooled" again constantly and I probably have heard those 500 million times. .... recently I rediscovered how much I loved them back in the day, because of performances like these. Live at Leads is awesome. The Who were unique no question and everyone in this incarnation was really crucial. They died in one sense when Moon did, but Entwistle was also huge. Still, I did go to see them in 2019, because, well they are living legends. For another great performance check out the Rock and Roll Circus gig.
