I'm not sure when the effect takes place (immediate or beginning of new round), but at 42:58, Anthony's six-pip orange is actually only worth 5 because of his leader card - that said, he did have the worker to elevate it if need be :)
Ariadne Chance aww thank you! It is refreshing to see other women in the hobby. I think a lot of women aren't as aware of the more strategic games out there, which is why I love being able to refer my lady friends to our playthroughs :-)
Really admire that y'all played through again and recorded it! Another data point for your consideration, I won a game having a resource/building engine that would generate 14 points every time I ran it through for the cost of 2 wood and 2 stone. I had no end game points and tied for military, and my church points were middling. I think 2 player is pretty harsh since only one person can harvest/produce each round.
That seems a lot of points for just 2 wood and 2 stone. Are you playing rule that you must have all resources for the engine before you start your engine ? Ex. before you start your engine, you have 0 wood and 0 stone, then maybe you can get some wood and stone during the engine, but you cannot use those during the same action. I'm talking about building engine, page 8 of rules, CMON version.
Hello to all. Great video and amazing critic so cool, I would like to ask kindly what was wrong when you play games in four? Which rules you mess up? ^^
In a 2 player game you can't let your opponent get everything they want. If you don't block out some stuff they can build up and destroy you. Side note an expansion is coming with new cards and leaders.
Boardgame Barbarian: Absolutely! It is much nastier in two player. It's still nasty in 3-4 player, but you can find things to mitigate the nastyness if you look for them.
I look forward to all of your videos - I find them fun and very informative as to whether or not I'll like a game, and it doesn't hurt that you're both entertaining - I love your back and forth. I've watched nearly all of your videos, even the solo ones (I play solo too :-) ) Keep it up!
Anthony and Frances BROKE Lorenzo!!! LoL Great video guys!! After looking at my last 3 plays with 3-4 players, the winner also won by 30-35 points. Definitely gonna try this strategy. Kudos for likely finding the "winning strategy". 😅 Hopefully the upcoming expansion fixed this, if there is an unbalance.
Love the videos great stuff keep up the great work! I've been looking forward to this one. I swear I saw it posted earlier then it disappeared before I could watch it? So glad to see the play through and review :)
Hey! Yeah, we misinterpreted a pretty major rule (which we explain in this video) and felt we needed to repost not only for clarity, but also to make sure we had an accurate feel for the game. As it turns out, it really changed things...!
Glad to see you are playing the tops of the towers properly this time 😁. 46:26, Anthony payed a servant to bump his black family member to a five, when the leader he had activated already made it a five. I see though, in other comments, later he used the natural sixes as sixes, instead of fives, so perhaps it balances out.
I was hoping this would come back up. I was right in the middle of the video when you took it down ;) Disappointing to hear it sounds broken, but this will save me some money!
Recently stumbled across your channel, subscribed immediately, love the mix of depth and opinion. I already have this game but have yet to play it, so your play through has been really helpful. Despite your concerns this still seems to have a lot going for it and maybe the expansion will help. Looks like a house rule is essential in the mean time and maybe having the option for more than one player to go on the resources space but with reduced benefit (e.g. 1 of each resource less, or 2 resources of your choice less). If you could lose the pauses for thought in the recording that would be great but only a minor niggle.
They are just bead containers, actually! You can find them at any craft store. Our our stackable, like this: www.michaels.com/bead-landing-clear-stackable-bead-storage-2in/10035496.html
Ludovico il Moro's ability says that every die is worth 5, even if a die is 6 in a turn you always get a 5. So you have to discard 2 servants in order to take the top row actions, as usual ;-D
Frances move was a block of course, even if unintended. But blocking is meant to help you win so why is it an issue? I've never noticed in your other videos that y'all always play nice. One person blocking and the other whining about it is part of gaming. Seems that the lack of harvest action spaces is mitigated by cards that allow you to harvest and by making sure you are first player. What if one player goes all territory and a few buildings vs all territory and no buildings? I think the variability of the leaders, ventures and people should be the difference makers. Glad to hear playing more than two should be better as most of my plays would be 3+. Continue to enjoy your videos and appreciate your points of view.
So there are some things not really clear: When explaining the tower (~ 4:35) you don't say, that you have to pay 3 coins if someone else is in the tower (ok, this is clear, when watching the playthrough) and that you are not allowed to put 2 family members in the same tower. You play it like this, but it's never explained, so if some does not know the rules .... .And one 'bigger' mistake you made (and I think not already is in one of the comments):You may never have more than 6 Development Cards of any type ... (in the rule at the end of the explanation of the tower) BUT yellow has 7 violet (adventure) cards at the end of the game. And yes, for the replayability: The Expansion ...! ... is great. And I always smiled, when for the coins you said 'Dollars' because for Italy, even in this era ... :-) . As German, I don't think I would call the money 'Euro'.
Hmmm....interesting. Firstly, I appreciate that its up to the individual to try a game and form their own opinion. However, I do think most of us like to see the gameplay and hear your views on the game itself - good bad or otherwise. In this case, the negative points you raised about LiM was enough to put me off investing - although just watching the gameplay was compelling. I appreciate your honest assessment of this game's balance (or lack thereof) and I think you should feel quite alright that you couldnt give it an overall rating. IN the case of Lorenzo, you certainly have not been the first to raise these concerns. I hope the designers take such reviews on board as surely some minor tweaks could help realise the undoubted potential of the game.
I think you did a great job showing that this game is unbalanced. The fact you struggled to find something good to say about it when played with two players speaks volumes. Your rating would obviously be very low if you'd have given it one. Do you vape?

Looking good, Frances! So nice to see women enjoying boardgames as much as you do in all your playthroughs.

Always good to revisit your plays. I got this for Christmas with the expansion! 🤩🎊. So made a bee line to your playthrough.

58:54 Anthony forgot to pay the occupied column fee.
Fun playthrough :-) btw: 1:07:23 Frances can not take this card as you are not allowed to have more then 6 cards of one color.
Can you swap the new card for the one of the old ones?
A good combination of Blue and Purple cards and minimal Resource cards = 128 Points and second place (by 1 point) in our latest 3 player game.

Ok....expansion is out guys....time to revisit “The Monster”!
It seems that Lorenzo shines at +2 while Grand Austria shines at exactly two.
I was hoping this would come back up. I was right in the middle of the video when you took it down ;)

I was wondering what happend to that video !!?? :)

Thanks for your honest opinions about the game. I don't like the "take that" stuff from boardgames as it starts disliking opponents.
