Hear me out here. I wish they had just updated the Hyperion Tempo to be this shoe, but with a normal heel bevel like they had in original version. $160 and they would have sold a bucket load of these. Unfortunately they called it the Max and didn’t max it out and it ends up being different than everyone expect when they get it on their feet. That being said I’ve done one tempo run and a moderate trail run in mine and they feel smooth and efficient without feeling like they are helping me that much. Excellent workout shoe.
Yeah I totally get that, I think when you see the word max you expect 40mm + of stack in the heel don’t you! This literally feels like the natural upgrade to the tempo and I’ve not seen any pictures of the hyperion yet so curious to see what they’re like!
True, though for those very casual runners who don’t follow shoetubers and only run a few hours every week, well they can’t go wrong with Brooks … reliable and very long wearing quality!!

Great review Andy. I am glad Brooks sent you a sample. They couldn't find a better advocate. I held this shoe at the expo of Houston Marathon (sponsored by Brooks) but didn't have time to try it on foot. I have a brand new Hyperion Tempo that I got with close to 40% discount. I will probably get this one at some point, but I don't have any urgency. I have to retire a few shoes before.

Full disclaimer.. I'm a Brooks ambassador.. I have a negative!.. the laces are too long. It is easy to solve of course but I was surprised to see them so long on your size too!.. I used mine last weekend and loved it. It seemed like the foam needed a 1km warm up, but then you just forget about it and enjoy.. I'm lucky enough to have a couple of tempos and the Max now. So I'm gonna use the Max for the long runs and the tempos for the shorter interval stuff. Glad that you are loving them so far. I hope the enjoyment continues 🙏

I have the same size as him and the lace length is fine for me lol. That being said I put an insole instead of the sock liner, which is quite thin, so the shoe is more snug than normal, and I use the heel lock lace.
Oddly, I just came back from a tempo run in the Hyperion Tempo. Very nice pair despite no plate. While most people praise the Endorphin Speed which I didn't quite like I am all for the HT. Now we have HMax,...should I wait for HT2 or grab this? 😄. Tq for your always honest and enjoyable review all the time. You're my best reviewer besides Believe in the Run..
Awesome video, thanks. I bought the Hoka Mach 5s but they're too narrow for me. I have Shift 3s for recovery and Vaporfly 2s for racing so wanted a replacement for my speed 3s for everything else. I'd prefer to train in non-plated shoes to build muscle so these sound perfect

I'm about 220lbs so I find a lot of reviews are hard to translate because if they find a shoe firm, it's usually dead perfect for me with almost 100lbs on them haha.

Tempo is on offer right now I think so worth grabbing if you wanted to get a feel for the DNA flash midsole, otherwise if you want to jump straight into this its fantastic!
Love the tempo, got the max did one run in it and thought it was to hard and I like a responsive runner. Maybe I should give it an other chance and get a couple more miles in it. I also thought the same of the adidas sl
It softens a touch after a few runs… I always found the first 1/2 runs in the tempo were the same but the more runs I did the more it moulded to my feet and softened a bit! I’ve done 3 runs now and they’re 👌
I always felt complete synergy with your views on the Tempo (expressed them on here before) even as someone who runs a fraction of your pace. However the other mediocre reviews for the Max had my bank manager pleased I wasn't cracking out the credit card again. Then I watch this.....
Oh, really sorry to of put you in that predicament!! If you've still got some tempos, just enjoy those for now and maybe try these later in the year then... perhaps a spring/summer meeting with the bank manager might be required haha
Not sure on their returns policy so you'd have to check.... i'd be honest and say I cant think of a nike shoe i'd compare this too, the foam is quite unique! but id recommend anyone trying them if they fancy a non plated firmer ride!

Yes I think it is! Ive never tried the levitate though, I am just getting that from feedback from other runners, this is probably their fastest longer distance training shoe they have
Yes and no. According to most reviews, Hyperion Elite is in the lower echelon of plated shoes. DNA Flash is not the softest compressive foam (like PEBA based foams) and when you throw in a stiff plate, it basically negates the qualities achieved by just DNA Flash foam in Hyperion Tempo/Max. They might need to carve out some of the foam for the plate to act like springboard like in New Balance RC Elite v2/SC Elite v3.

Correct - Speed 3 gets mushy after an hour or so.. Speed 2 much better.

Is the MAX wider in the toebox then the Hyperion Tempo?
I personally think it’s less wide. I’ve had two pairs of tempos and have 25 miles in this new Max version.

Running for about 2 years now and ran 2 marathons in the Ghost 14 (pb 3.35.37). Would this be a non plated option for a next marathon?
Yes it’s great non plated racing shoe! Keep in mind the heel bevel is very extreme and doesn’t lend itself well to heel striking.

Yes it is... initially they didnt do my size, I did want to try it... they only went up to a UK12, still the same from what I can see

They sure look pointy. I'd like to see the next industry trend be a slight move in the direction of a foot shape. Not extreme pointiness.
