    This is what sold me, I've been at it since December 4th. I've taken my squat from 135 to 200 in less than two months doing the program, my press from 75 to 100. It's foolproof. It's simple, it works for the majority. I'm 285lbs at 5'6 with some sports history, but im definitely 35%>bodyfat but the program works, I'm "slimming" with near caloric maintenance level. Starting Strength is mechanical and simple, it is the most efficient program for the most common individual. I cannot stress this enough, unless you are exceptionally gifted or a person with disabilities, this program can be utilized for you. I'd honestly estimate, it can accommodate 95% of the human population, of a staggering age range of 16-18 to 70-90. I was sold because every promotional video shows a regular joe, a grandma, a normal fella. All other workout programs necessitate that you look like a roided up, low bodyfat jack ass who probably is on more gear than all of mr. olympia athletes. Lifts > Muscle Groups, 5lbs more than before > "feeling the burn", full ROM > stupid bodybuilding halfreps, lifting should be for your health and to feel good not some masochistic torture to inflame your muscles with extra water and less strength.

      Great summation. Basically these other people are practicing chronic lifting, using roids and carbs to fill their muscles with water. Essentially they are lifting slaves!

    105 to 200 press
    150 to 420 squat
    140 to 290 bench
    155 to 450 deadlift
    * Goal by 50:
    500 deadlift
    450 squat

    Also important to point out to people that the "shredded" look of body builders and super heroes in the movie also comes from a water fast that starts a day or two before the competition, the photo shoot, or shooting the shirts-off movie scene. Getting your body into "competition state" involves a lot of dehydration. You're never going to look like the people in the pictures, unless you want to also walk around severely dehydrated all the time.

    I did bodybuilding type splits for years and besides from a decent bench press I was weak and my body was ok. My body is so improved since I ran through Starting Strength (twice). Getting strong first should be a requirement for all kids in order to graduate high school.

    When I was younger I bought fitness mags off the “newsstand” for a few years. It became apparent that they cover the exact same topics in cyclical fashion. Running magazines are not dissimilar. What really drove it home for me was when I could find virtually all of the modern muscle mag content in Arnold’s Encyclopedia.

    That was a good clip. I guess as much Mark Rippetoe wanted to have dinner with Betty and put some coins in the Jukebox, I had wanted to have a trizeps like Mike OHearn, but I realized very soon the impossibility of this intention. Thats why I soon quit resistance training in a gym for many many years and its a bit of embarressing, but it is what it is. Except the press and snatch stuff starting strength modifications are okay. If you are not exaggerating☝️

    A girl i know participated in a couple of fitness contests, and she gave it up, because it's not even training, but "supplements" that play the most important part in that sport. Her coach was blunt: either you want to be a fitness model, or you want to have children. All the muscle girls (and probably most of guys) you see in these magazines are permanently infertile.

    Rip, what are your views on the McGill Big 3, pallof press, one handed suitcase carry? I really don’t care what my abs look like. I do however want to have a strong and stable trunk/core so that I can safely squat, deadlift and power clean more weight.

    I agree with fundamental movements. However;
    1. Harder to push or pull to faulure in compond movements. Easier to push harder bicep curl, tricep isolation, etc. For most people working out..
    2. Building bicep or tricep will help with overall upper body strength.
    3. Bicep curl and tricep push are favorite movements.
    So i explain to clients why fundamentals are core ... but some upper body isolation is fine.
    Besg practice is compound first, isolation at end of workout.

  • @jaredhemingway6078

    While the overall message of this video is solid, once again Rip spews nonsense. Someone who is overweight can damn sure run off body fat without losing muscle mass. If you eat sufficient protein and continue to strength train, burning more calories through running (assuming you stay in a deficit) will damn sure burn fat without burning muscle. Will you optimize strength? No, but who gives a shit if you deadlift 400 lbs. or 450 lbs. (unless you actually compete in powerlifting)?

  • @HauptmannGallenstein

    no mr rippeto, training 4 days a week on a bodypart split with not too much volume (chest arms / back / legs / shoulders arms for example) is just WAY more healthy for the joints than doing heavy Barbell squat bench deadlift 3 times week THATS the point....

    • @sardalamit
      @sardalamit 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Agree- they both have a point. What if I'm not satisfied with just being strong and I want to look more aesthetic? Alternating the press with the bench will not work in that case. You better do your inclines, lateral, high rows etc.
      Right now, I am just focused on GPP kind of strength. Hence my routine looks more closer to Rippetoe's.

    These idiots need to actually pay attention to what others in the community are saying. They make straw man arguments to justify their minimalist program. A person can do both compound and accessory lifts.
