    I love these vids. The tones are so raw and wonderful and the playing is otherworldly. Harkens to an age of ass-kicking rock. Not that it's gone--just not the mainstream anymore. Thanks for the vid!

    I’ve seen a lot of praise for the SV20 but also a lot of not so good stuff, your playing just proved to me that it’s definitely a skill issue on the negative people’s part! I listened to this while focusing on something else and I noticed some differences in the switches but it all sounded so good I couldn’t have blind guessed which amp was which if I was put on the spot, they all sounded amazing! The big amps are obviously gonna sound bigger but they have their uses and so does the 20W ones, I’m saving up for a SV20 myself with a matching cab (might put greenbacks in tho) and awesome players like you definitely helped convince me👌

    • @Briman24

    Its absoloutly incredible how well Jacob plays a Les Paul when one could say its really not the guitar he has actually learned on and played with for that many hours. so damn good bro. Jacob adapts to any style guitar on the market and not only owns it but plays it correctly as far as style goes. Hes is absoloutly unmatched. All four amps are just sick. he plays them all so well that they all sound very very close in quality. Jacob will always sound like Jacob no matter what he plays or plugs into people. Magic fingers

    The SV20H is amazing at this price don't get me wrong but... The 59HW is just so much more open to my ears. Fantastic amps!

    • @craigyoung4068
      @craigyoung4068 15 วันที่ผ่านมา +8

      I was going to say the same thing. The 20w Plexi doesn’t have the same headroom as the 100w.

    • @stricknine8623
      @stricknine8623 15 วันที่ผ่านมา +5

      @craigyoung4068 That was the entire point of making a 20 watt plexi. Well, two points...
      It's not hand-wired, for cost savings and it runs out of headroom quicker so that you can get that cookin plexi sound at a more reasonable volume.
      I know that you already know this but it's worth saying anyway.

    • @RiffLair
      @RiffLair 15 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      @@craigyoung4068 Yeah, the SV20 sounds a fair bit more compressed but still great. On the fence to sell my SmallBox 50 and get me a 1959hw 😂

    I was so hoping you were gonna do this comparison, and you did not disappoint. Brilliant. The Marshall HW was the favourite for me, it had all the weight of the bigger transformers, but cut through better as well. I did like the sponginess of the Germino quite a bit though. I think the Germino would feel the best to play.

    The 1959! has the balls and punch! The one and only, the king of all amps! Great comparison, right out of the gate it shows how leaner the sv20 sounds when put up against its dad. And i dont have to tell you you but you have the Van Halen Down theres no getting closer nobody on youtube. Youre the Van Halen Champion! And i convinced myself that he mid boosted his amps with EQs to get his sustain, harmonics, feedback etc... ive never owned a plexi so its hard to know, so thanks for these videos, i have the jvm like you used to use.

    • @I.am_Groot
      @I.am_Groot 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I thought about a stomp once upon a time but gave into to my inner pedal nerd and try to keep myself around 25-30 on hand lol. As for a good amp the ST can be had around $1000 or under and a few years down the road will still be worth most of what you paid for it. People say gear isn't an investment but why not? If I can 'rent' a nice $1000 piece of gear for a fraction of its cost and some gear like a good Marshall is not going to take long to unload if money gets tight

    • @radicalagnostic
      @radicalagnostic 14 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @ agreed. i actually saved enough a while back to get myself a les paul, and i consider it an investment as its value has gone up at least $1k. once i get a chance i hope to get a decent marshall, probably the new jtm or studio vintage, and then a good attenuator. i would consider those items to be assets as they’ll all mostly retain their value

    • @I.am_Groot
      @I.am_Groot 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@radicalagnostic Nice. I have broken even or turned a bit of profit on most gear deals the last few years and the few I did not were cool pieces that I either really enjoyed or were able to get over and move on so all good lol

    From my ears, the Marshall 1959HW is my favorite out of these amps. Raw, untamed and lively. Airy and breathable, not choked off like the ST20H, which I like that amp as well. I like the way that amp sounds as being choked off, tight and a little restricted, even when cranked all the way up. Turned down on the volume, it reminds me of my old Gorilla amp which is a good thing. That would be awesome for rhythm, but not lead. Would have to add some distortion pedal to make it more reactive to play lead and high end. The 1987 Germino, I didn't care too much for the sound. Sounded too punchy and in your face on the lower end, plus when playing notes close together, it sounded muddy, fudge sounding and fat. The SV20, didn't care too much for that amp as well. Sounded like the Germino, but with less lower end punch and less fat. Out of the 4 amps, the 2 amp heads I would choose to use: The Marshall 1959HW and the ST20H. Those 2 would be the dynamic duo.

    The 1959HW sounds like it has all the secret sauce. In the lead PUP, it just growled better than the others and rolled off cleanly. It can be articulate if you want it to and have the room to be really mean. In the bass PUP
    it was creamy without being spongy. 100 watts have more headroom and it proved itself.
    Great playing by the way. 20 watts is nothing to sneeze at and it's plenty loud, 100 watts on the road though.

    Germino seems the most gain and cut. I like that one.

    Rad,...so good. The 1959HW and the Germino are very close with the Germino a tad less bitey with more low-mid push. SV20H, closer to the Germino in tone slightly less gainy and the ST20H the cleanest, and less aggressive sounding (reminds me a bit of the tone Ed got on Women and Children First). All the amps sound amazing.

    Question: What's with the obsession on the volume knob every few seconds? Do they get loose and go down?
    Just wondered, lol

    They really all sound great and could be very close with some EQ adjustments. No clear standout winner here to me. The ST20 probably my least favorite due to noticeably less gain.

      I found the break up on the ST more pleasant than some of the higher gain models

    Do you ever adjust the bridge pickup height? Or is it just that attack?
