Comment before I watch the video - but last night folks were saying he doesn’t look as good without Kelce, and my response was that he looks the same but his receives crumbled in big moments. Mahomes actually played really well. What a game!
played about as well as expected, Chiefs offense should be fine. not going to have many nights where every single thing goes wrong. Lions D has some playmakers too, might be a good group.
I don't think you're giving enough credit to the Lions, who from what I can see are being completely slept on. They're a team that I'm genuinely relieved my Jets won't have to play in the regular season. I agree that Mahomes played up to his usual ultra high standards -- that's one of the reasons this game made my estimation of the Lions a little more firm.
@@jessejordache1869 they will be good, very physical. some weeks that gets you in trouble but last night's ref crew was letting the secondaries play their game. the young players on Detroit's offense will also get better over the season
It's not just you. Seems JT is a lot more active this season compared to last season. He made like 3 times the amount of preseason videos this season compared to last.
He definitely has and I love it. Him and Kurt Warner’s breakdowns should be more popular, they teach a lot about the game for the position that everybody loves to focus on
You see it every week but for mahomes to just throw and anticipate we’ll before these receivers break, or how fast he goes thru the reads is just unreal
New intro is cool but maybe make it a little shorter? To be honest, I'm a fan of videos that get straight to the content and don't have long intros, which is one of the many reasons I really love your videos - short intros and you hit straight into the meat of the video and content. Usually podcasts/shows that lack actual good content (which yours doesn't) put a lot into the intros and take up way too much time before they hit the content - so in short, new intro is cool but maybe make it a little shorter? That opinion could be off from your usual viewer but I thought I'd throw my two cents in. Love your content and your videos. Keep it up!
I just OCD watched the new opening intro several times and then went to an older video so I could compare it to the old intro... The new one adds a whopping 10 seconds, but "for the sake of brevity" the new intro is animated so it has moments with "dramatic pauses" ...it could be adjust so the tempo is a little bit quicker! (Without the video looking rushed!)
When rodgers had no receivers last year, everyone savaged him, even though they were dropping simple passes most of the year. How long will it be until we recognise that quarterbacks are only as good as their talent, play calling, and receivers allow? The narrative that Mahomes 'makes his receivers' has never been accurate. Thursday night was the 1st time in his career that he didn't have a hall of fame pass catcher on the field with him.
The reason Toney didn't catch that pass was he knew he was going to be lit up by Branch. He had visions of the play where in the preseason Cole Beasley was trucked. Either way, they are punting and giving us the ball even if he didn't intercept it.
This video is encouraging to me when it comes to Gray. He certainly isn't Kelce, but it seemed like he was doing a good job of finding space like Kelce does, and if he can develop a little more trust with Mahomes, he could be a solid option to continue to get snaps and reduce Kelce's workload during a 17 game season, without slowing the offense down too much (still having Kelce for the bigger, gotta have it moments).
Just discovered this and this is my new favorite youtube channel. One request: please continue to explain some of the terminology you use to help us learn! Thanks for the awesome content.
I was curious what was happened on the drops, was it on PM? Was his vision narrow? And this perfectly answers it all. Thank you. So he was little bit forced and has trust issue but his throw was great. Just some missed opportunities and drops. It will change over time.
Logo is super cool! Always want to catch your take. I think the 2nd half was more forced and I do think it had a lot to do with his security blanket that he's always had. When the drops really started coming, I think Patrick got a little nervous about losing the game and started pressing.
Thanks for the breakdown, as always. I like the logo animation. Volume could go down a bit. Maybe cut a second or so off the end. New NFL season. Let's go
Saw a bunch of commentators including offensive line coaches clarifying this. His head must be at centers waist level. Apparently the line judge can see this and judged he was legal. Chris collinsworth and the TV ref we’re calling it out. But of course they’re not on the field and can’t really see it. So that’s just tv dummy talking points😂😂😂
Couldn’t help but think about Russell Wilson. JT’s analysis of Wilson’s performances last season focused a lot on how he had become overconfident in his ability to improvise and had allowed his footwork to go to crap. Mahomes is way more talented than Wilson but the principle is the same. When you are really under a lot of pressure without your favorite receiver and the game is getting away from you, that’s when you start missing your timing and ball placement just enough to blow the game. The margin of error in the NFL is just that tough even if you are one of the best of all time.
10 seconds I think is the sweet spot I kind timed it out with a pause for when my brain “thought” the intro would end..right at 10 seconds but I love it either way. Maybe you can do like tv shows and the first few episodes debut the long version and then abbreviate it over time. Just a thought love the channel
New logo intro is super cool, love the animation. I think the sound is an issue, it just doesn't fit with whats showing on the screen. Love the content though!
At the end of the first half I was like we are good Mahomes sis seeing the field now so we are going to come aout 2nd half and be rolling but not so much. The picks six just seem to rattle 19 and he just had some bad drops and then it was everyone dropping balls. Mahomes did keep going back to 19 to get him into the flow knowing just get him to make a catch or two and he's back to making plays. 19 was out for training camp with surgery on his knee and the rust did show. He'll be ready for the Jags game. Andy will be showing tape and all the missed plays. You don't see Mahomes forcing the ball like he did very often. The Lions are a much better team and when you have two of your three super stars out it's much harder. Got to give it to the lions they came into Arrowhead to hit the Chiefs in the mouth and they did.
That missed interception by Johnson was a bad throw from Mahomes. You could tell he was irritated at that point and wasn't reading the field like he usually does.
Yea nobody in the league can make the throws mahomes does with people on him and across the field NOBODY chiefs will bounce back just what we needed a chip on our shoulder 🤷🏻♂️ Jordan time baby!😂
More people need to see this. I've been saying since the game that the problem was not the defense and it wasn't 15, it was the receivers (and primarily the WRs) who couldn't catch balls thrown right at 'em. Defense more than stepped up, allowing only two TDs in CJ95's absence, Mahomes threw some darts, the RBs and TEs played pretty well the way they were used (would've liked to see more McKinnon and less CEH but what can you do), but Kelce's absence was palpable. Seemed to make the WRs less confident working in slightly tighter coverage and without their own security blanket that can will himself open for a checkdown when none of them are open.
so do people get the all 22 film at different times? Its still not on my account, All last year I got it days later than everyone else, this is frustrating and I am not sure why? Nice vid btw as usual.
Exactly. You see some of these QB’s who aren’t particularly athletic but they seem to get a lot of yards on the scramble. It’s cuz they recognize when they can/should get yards with their legs and when they should throw it away
15:09 The tight end running wide open looks to me like a coverage bust. You can see the corner at the bottom (#1) pointing to the safety (#2) like he was making a call expecting to pass that off and he lets the crosser go but the safety doesn’t get the call and they both end up taking that inside post.
Love the breakdown of the game! Almost comical though how often Jawaan Taylor is either holding or jumping early in these replays😅 Mahomes receivers dropped so many passes, but the Chiefs offensive line got away with so many no calls. Almost balances each other out imo.
This is the Lane Johnson school of Right Tackle play. Until the refs have the balls to call it, they will keep doing it and more teams will do it. The TV angle also looks like they push the boundaries of legal depth from center. Your helmet ear hole is supposed to be in line with the Center's hips. When lined up back and starting so early, it is all very exaggerated.
@@paulgaither totally agree, no harm in going until it’s called. It’s just funny that it seemed to go on for so long, without it being penalized until the very end.
@@cwintas- From what Lane got away with - even in the Super Bowl, it doesn't seem like the refs will call it. More teams should do it and force the issue.
Notice how the offensive line are all wearing white gloves. Which just so happens to be the color of the Lions away jersey. Something I've started watching for ever since Julian Edelman told a story about getting called for holding, and either Brady or a member of the coaching staff balling him out for wearing bright red gloves, like "if you're going to hold, don't make your hands highlighter-colored, idiot."
@@paulgaither Great observation on the legal depth thing -- I can't believe I watched the video and didn't notice, for example, 7:04. Good players are all Lane Johnson's disciples: there's no shame in taking what the refs give you. But the rarity of bad calls or bad non-calls being equally distributed really cuts into my enjoyment of the sport: I can't stop thinking "and it looks like the league wants a Bills victory here", (thinking about Bills at Vikings last year, where it seemed like the Vikings had to outplay the officials too).
The most irritating part about this loss is that there was no reason for KC to lose this game, even without Kelce they only lost by one point and its not like they didn't have plenty of opportunities to get points, some of those passes that were dropped even i could have caught, these were short, very catchable passes and if so much as one of those dropped balls had been caught KC would have at least been in field goal range, so they absolutely would have won, there was just no reason for KC to lose this game.
Maybe. Lions were in grinding clock mode the whole 4th. We don’t know how it would have played out otherwise. Not too mention so many missed false starts and holds on that Chiefs online.
The flip side of that coin is the missed false starts and holding. All things being equal, they still lose because the receivers couldn’t catch a cold lol I thought Pat still looked good. The near pick by Johnson was prolly the worse throw.
Around 4:40: notice the grossly obvious hold by the right tackle on the edge rusher. As in, half a step away from a horsecollar. Mahomes was only able to complete that pass because refs allow him that kind of protection. Not to mention the constant false starts and illegal line-ups.
