This is going to sound simplistic, but your group can get there with a good culture and instruction. First, the kids have to be receptive to good instruction and work hard; especially in their free time at home. Do not come to rehearsal not having a clue of how the music is played. What you can not play, your staff should have the capacity to help you. If your staff is competent, it will happen. One thing is in these Texas schools (I live and teach on Ohio), they have a culture in so many schools of excellence. Many have really good resources. Howver, if you produce, the resources become more easily obtained in many cases. It's that way with most great programs around the country. Of you want it, be a leader in your drumline and strive for improvement and don't give up.
