The worst part of the Jail angle, and something even the FTC got onto the makers for, is the fact that typically Software Piracy while illegal, is typically a civil offense, not a criminal one, meaning you're more likely to be sued than arrested, and even then only if you use shady means or are a shady distributor yourself

They should've called the sequel "Don't Copy That Floppy: A New Legacy". Gives off that sort of vibe.

3:09 they could’ve been playing Mortal Kombat. Which takes turns between player versus player and player versus computer.

My favorite part is when they suggest you buy an individual copy of the software for every computer you want to use it on. Btw, your name isn’t printed on your prison issue clothes like in their video. That’s complete nonsense but that is an actual federal Inmate ID number at 17:51. You can tell by the dash 065 at the end. That number indicates the district of the state you’re prosecuted in. That number stays with you forever. If you were sent back for a new crime 25 years later, the number would be the same.

It kinda sorta worked for me. I don't pirate games unless they don't sell it anymore. I'll even rebuy games on Steam along with the used games in my collection.

Being a pirate is alright to be you are a pirate.... Modern day DRM lasts about 24 hours and impacts game performance... I don't think software piracy is gonna end the computer era... face palm

ME Hart's enthusiasm and performance as DP does sell the song. I even like the second one.

Your video has been educational in terms of facts, however you're attacking some of the points without a valid argument.
First of all, I believe you've misunderstood the point of the first video and with throwing words like "fearmongering" around, I think you've taken it way too seriously.
It's false to say that the video is fearmongering. Yes, it is saying that "if everybody copies, nobody buys and hence the computer world crashes". But it's not an assumption that everybody would copy. It's a rather obvious overexaggeration. If the creators were to worry about the crashes of computer world, it wouldn't have made sense to use the argument that large companies make millions. Even if it had not been an overexaggeration, it's important to consider that by then piracy was getting recognized as an issue and nobody had any reliable data concerning how much it affects sales, but I digress.
While the scenario they've constructed is cringeworthy and the video is indeed grossly oversimplified, I don't see a lot of things that would be wrong about it. It illustrates that copying does not generate revenue, so if everybody copies, nobody buys. It illustrates that market influences what kinds of games are made. Although the "well, this game didn't sell well, so we won't make any more" is sketchy, it's important to remember it's a video for kids, so throwing around overly technical terms could make it too complicated.
It illustrates that it is illegal, but in a not overly intrusive way. Which is ok - it's so easy to do people might not think there's anything wrong about it.
It's true that the video takes only the corporate perspective and not shareware or FOSS community, however you're neglecting that it's not about specifying when is it legal to copy and whatnot. It's an anti-piracy video. Freeware and shareware is irrelevant, since it only talks about commercial products. Sharing free/shareware does not infringe on anyone's rights.
Last but not least, yes, the video is a gross oversimplification and lacks discussion. However, considering it's a non-profit video, I don't think we could reasonably expect a fully fledged lecture. Not in 1990's when community funding wasn't so easy. Nowadays with kickstarter, patreon and various sponsorship programs it's considerably easier to have proper funding. And a good teacher should easily be able to take this video as an entry point for a lecture about piracy and copyright.
Nevertheless, I do agree that the followup video from 2009 is total garbage. Instead of being educational, it demonizes piracy so much it's rather counterproductive.
