  • I break down the majors steps to mixing indie pop like bands in the vein of the 1975, Lany, Bleachers, etc. I talk through my process for mixing midrange elements, run through my vocal chain, getting bass and the kick to sit well with each other, and my three favorite plugins for reference mixing and mastering.

Hi, I'm Seth, I've been Songwriting & Producing music for the past 10 years. I made this channel because I couldn't find any music production tutorials in my niche on guitar based pop that actually broke down specific songs from artists like the 1975, LANY, Muna, etc. Every week i make an instrumental from scratch in the specific style of a popular guitar-based pop song and show you how I recreated it. I show you my sample selection, production tricks, guitar tones, mixing chains, mastering plugins, all of it. I've worked with many artists in bringing their creative ideas into the real world. I've worked on projects for Warner Music Group and three songs I've written (and two I've produced) have made it onto Spotify-Curated Playlists (Love Pop, OPM Workday Marathon, & New Music Friday Philippines, Cozy Christmas Pop).

Can you do a production tutorial for “She’s American”? Or maybe “The Sound”?

Really helpful! My only constructive feedback would be to use less reverb on the vocal and more delay textures. I like to put a slap delay, a medium time delay with a slight widener and a long tail delay that’s even wider. This will spread your vocal and help glue it to the mix without taking away from the clarity of the vocal. It shouldn’t be obvious when the track is going, but it adds a sheen to the vocal and makes it pop.

It’s a taste thing. I like a reverb-y wash on personally. I love when I can’t make out the lyrics at first, but have to go back and ‘decipher’ them. Maybe that’s weird, ha

That’s probably the most generic ”indie pop” song I’ve ever heard. Literally every little melody and chord progression is predictable. Almost in a parodic way. Not critiquing your production btw, you’re probably a good producer. But the guy who wrote this song seems to be in the need of a bit of inspiration and creativity. Maybe it’s AI written? Wouldn’t be a surprise.
