Several of my black friends had mothers, aunts, sisters, and grandmothers had this going on in our neighborhood. As did the Latinas, Asians, and of course, Whites. But then, we lived in a semi rural bedroom community with lots of small farms and ranches, all surrounded by nature. Foothills, dirt paths pressed hard, fields with wildflowers and sweet grass as far as the eyes could see. One year, there was a fire in the forest behind the foothills and we got woodland (and mountain) creatures living in the neighborhood for a couple seasons before they went back to the forest. Owls, foxes, snakes, mice, hawks, skunks, gophers, deer, coyotes, cougars, rabbits, etc, etc, etc. It was amazing, though surprising. It was sad when the cute small ones left, though. I bet a Lot of them ended up being "trad wives and mothers" before it was even a term. I'll never stop Missing it. Never
