Case Background: The Long Island serial killer (LISK) is suspected of murdering between 10 and 16 people over 20 years, with the remains of their victims found between 2010 and 2011 after the search for Shannan Gilbert began. It was technology advancements that gave police their biggest break through. Nuclear DNA testing is rather new and just a few years ago all they had was mitochondrial DNA testing for the hairs…which was used, Police eliminated John Bittrolff as a suspect in the Jesica Taylor case because his DNA didn’t match the mitochondrial test they did on the hair. I believe they also tied Heuermann’s burner phone numbers in with an alias email address..and one of those alias email addresses was used for something that had Heuermann’s name. And that’s just kinda crazily good police work

He coldly planned their murders, ruthlessly butchered them, and skillfully hid their remains. This man is a true monster. Considering the extensive timeline from the first potential victim to the last, it's highly probable there are many more victims still undiscovered. Rex H could very well become one of the most notorious serial killers in history. My heart goes out to every family impacted by these horrific acts.

The 4 murders near Atlantic City were believed to not be connected to the Gilgo murders because of different MO's . However, he clearly noted and changed his MO.. I hope they recheck those poor 4 young women murder there.

I used to defend her too but I'm questioning it now big time. John Ray talks about one specific item in the house that makes me believe she knew, and that crooked cop was fully involved and the reason it took so long to catch him. We shall see I guess. The kids I've never thought knew anything though in all fairness.

At the first press conference, for the 3 ladies, the prosecutor said he had a burner phone for every victim. At that time, there were 3, now 4, burner phones, including Maureen.
Now, they have found an additional 43 phones, so, could that mean 47?!
And that’s not counting the possible years there weren’t cell phones or he was visiting/living other places. Yikes! 😬

Wanted to meet me at his "house" which was "bare of furniture " because he was "transitioning " to Ft Lauderdale. Told him I'd prefer to meet at a public cafe. He reluctantly agreed. When I saw him from my car I should have sped away. He was a giant man, about 6'5". We went into the cafe. He was silent and scowling, never looked me in the eye. After 5 minutes of this he said "I hate pro lifers". I was pro life . Every neck hair on me stood up and I ran out to my car. He followed to his car. I drove an hour long convoluted way home so he couldn't follow me. I was terrified. I don't remember the name he gave me, but when zi saw his arrest I recognized him.

I imagine that many were met with contempt or merely told this would be investigated with no immediate action. Seems the LISK _only_ got attention when the body count increased and due to the efforts of a few very outspoken family members. ALL human beings deserve to live safely, and when they can't--they deserve the same justice as Heuermann may have gotten if he was ever a victim!
I live locally to him. In 1983 I was hanging out with kids from his neighborhood in the Massapequa preserve by his house. By an area with water and locks of huge rocks. The kids told me a few years prior a little girl was found dead right here. They said it’s thought she slipped and fell on the rock. That her father was watching her and she wandered off into the preserve. Rex would have been a teenager at that time living right around the block from where the child was found dead.

The way they tracked him down was through his daughter's DNA. She sent her own DNA into the Ancestry website 23 and ME. ! They ran her DNA and it matched with hairs found on some of the victims.
Wow This has left me feeling such anxiety in my chest. Almost hard to believe a human can be this sick and twisted and then go pretty much unnoticed. Scary. I don’t even know him or any victims and this makes me feel like I need to vomit. Many prayers for everyone affected by this evil monster.

As amazing as this task force’s work has been I think it’s extremely important to remember Shannon Gilbert’s critical role. As tragic as it is to think about, none of this would have come about without Shannon’s actions. And from a personal perspective, I do NOT believe her death was an unfortunate accident. There’s just too much suspicious behavior by various individuals that has never been reasonably explained and I don’t believe it is all a coincidence of circumstances. Jmho!

After looking at his Google searches a couple months ago I thought that he was probably acting out those fantasies on these poor women and their deaths were probably brutal and horrific. The Press first reported in 2016 that investigators used DNA evidence to determine that Peaches was the mother of an unidentified toddler who was among 10 sets of human remains found along the same parkway in 2010 and 2011 in what became known as the Long Island Serial Killer investigation."

Yep, I'm now certain that CatchLISK's estimate of 60-100 is far more accurate than 6 we know so far. The dismemberment opens a lot more related search terms when looking at found parts & remains. 30 years between Costilla's disappearance and his arrest. If the police have researched the wive's travel histories, how many trips did Asa & kids take yearly x 30 years.

I was listening to you read this as I drove to and from my destinations today. Those poor women. They found body parts of at least 2 victims in 1996 (? Karen Vergata's legs and Peaches' torso?) so there are probably some undiscovered between 1993 and 1996.
Correction--Peaches was located in 1997 but still waaayyy too close.

In a way, it partly exonerates his wife. He couldn't totally hide his dark side from her, but he made sure she would never suspects him of being a killer.

Freaks me out when he says look at the painting. Remember that painting they carried out?
In his document he had “painting” in quotations because it’s a quote from the Mind Hunter book. The quote goes something like, “if you want to find the artist look at the painting”. The “artist” is Rex and the “painting” would be the bodies in this case. Rex put this in his notes because he wanted the paintings to look like they came from a different artist. For example, if he’s organized then he wanted behavioral analysts to think they’re looking for someone who is disorganized.

So with these last victims I believe they said they found the bodies 50 feet off the road, which is a stone’s throw, and he presumably left his tire tracks in the mud and everything. When the police come along and see how easy these victims were to find, and realize that the perpetrator drove right up there with his truck, the police will think they’re looking for a complete dumbo. Which was Heuermann’s intent, but let’s say he had a change in methodology after 2010. Let’s say that he realizes how dangerous it is for him when the investigators find these women so he decides that the best method is actually to just not let them find them. He has a duck hunting boat. Just a thought…

Rex is an absolute monster! Terrifying to think what these women went through in their last hours on earth. I truly believe any place Rex has lived or visited there will be victims. This is far bigger than any of us can imagine. Thank you Gisela, MODs and Grizzlies for providing a safe space to listen to all these gruesome details and sharing our thoughts. Sending love to the victims' loved ones as well as the task force who is helping to bring about justice.

Wow. Many thought this LISK character was some mastermind when really all these cases needed standardized investigative forensic attention. Very sad. No matter how hard a killer tries to hide it’s impossible not to leave things behind. It’s ultimately up to the investigation

I am firm on Not Guilty until Proven beyond a reasonable doubt. Until you get cases such as this. There couldn’t be anymore evidence against him , I mean what more could someone need. He wrote out his plans and details. Everything on the computer. He wrote out his plans. This man is sick as hell and should receive the DP , I know they don’t have that in New York but maybe he will receive Prison Justice. One can only hope. He just needs to plead guilty so these family’s don’t have to relive this and see all of this. My heart is with all the families ❤
Prison justice would have to start with somebody bigger than he is, unless there is a planned swarm. Good luck.
