As one trying somewhat to replicate that single exhaust system, I wouldn't abandon it too fast. Those Commando 273 single exhaust systems sound really good.

Really nice...I drove my dad's 273cc 64 cuda with the pushbutton auto gear selector, hydraulic steering, Sweet ride. Got a 66 cuda 3 speed auto for myself, The 273 2 barrel engine wore out burning oil like crazy. Got a built 318 4 barrel holly 600, 360 heads ported, mild purple camshaft, solid lifters, 10.5:1 flat top pistons, hooker headers, Transmission with low 1st and second gears, shift kit, 391 rear end, from a 1970 super bee from a guy that worked at Jim boast dodge. 280 hp and 0 to 60 in 5 seconds. One of my tranny linkages came loose and fell down could not drive in reverse.

That sounds perfect. My 66 cuda tranny linkage came loose on the automatic 3 speed. I could only drive it home in 2nd gear.

Nice car I also have a 1966 Plymouth barracuda formula s first four-speed 8 and 3/4 rear 273 4 barrel commando it's neat I drive it around then park it every Sunday sometimes I go to a car show. Don't forget it also has 10.5 compression 👍👍👍 I have drum brakes it stops fine for me plus two points which works fantastic never had issues with points through all the years very nice car good job did you let the car sit for a long time I start my car once a week and it starts up first shot right away even in the winter check your timing I'm not trying to tell you what to do but it might be the timing that didn't start right away it's either that or you let it sit for a long long long time I'm not trying to be Wise guys just trying to be helpful. 👍👍👍

No you are exactly right the timing is off but also it has sat for a very long time. It keeps having minor problems so haven’t gotten to do to much with it . Also your car sounds like a lot of fun. The little a bodies or just a ton of fun to drive.

@@oldskoolrides602 thank you needs like minor minor minor body work and a nice paint job and a driver seat that's about it good luck I'm very fortunate my wife got me the car back like 5 years ago I owned it in 2002 I traded it for an AMX then about 16 years later I was speaking to the guy and he was looking to sell it and wanted to sell it back to me and I had in my head with the price I would pay for it I said no more than 5,000 that's what I had in my head although we know our cars are worth more he said for you I'll give it to you for $5,000 I said okay but I didn't think anything of it and I didn't think I was going to buy it and I told my wife about it and like two days later she had the cash for me what a wife yay.👍👍👍😂😂😂😂

Nice. A Barracuda S was a rare sight even when I was a teenager... Very cool. All the best working towards No Name Nationals. I'm sure you'll get there. Although I got stalled out here last month and have about 350 more subs to go, heck I got until the end of September. :-)

So what was the final answer on why it broke down?
In my experience, two things you need to watch out for is: 1) the z-bar in the clutch linkage is pretty weak. The bellcrank arms can peel the welds on the tube right off. 2) Do not use the 1/4" drill bit to line up/adjust all the 4spd linkage rods. Use it only for the forward gear selector rods, NOT the reverse rod. Adjust the reverse rod totally independent of the for ward gears.

      @oldskoolrides602 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Luckily it happened to be the linkages just got bound up so once we put it on a lift we could easily pull it out of gear. I just drove it today and it seems to be doing good. Gonna just have to drive it more to find out if there is a real problem.

@olrides602 Had that problem with a Muncie...linkages should be rebuilt
Mine would jam in R and 3rd gear position. Didnt know any better and paid to have it "rebuitl" 3 times only to happen again .
If your timing is on make sure your choke works, set up right it should fire right up hot or cold first revolution or 2

Do you have any problems with the clutch in your vehicle. Just a hint.... the clutch pedal will return if it's fitted with a return spring or if mechanism is all good you may have a fluid leak at either the slave or master cylinders, check for brake fluid leaks or bleed the clutch hydraulic system to purge it of any air.
Oh yeah, you have a gorgeous Mopar.

Keep that numbers matching engine. These cars from 1964-1966 all the Ford Mustangs outsold Chrysler's A-bodies by 8to1...
the 273's were the only LA blocks that came with adjustable rockers. The A/C was: "a dealership installed option", the disc brakes up front were another dealer installed option. The factory production numbers: are stamped on the radiator support under the yellow radiator coolant sticker (upside down stamping, car 100,001= car #1), the same number set should match the: "SO number" on bottom left of fender tag, & again stamped on the left rear inner wheel well under back glass. U have to pull out the left carpet & interior trim off that inner left wheel well arch area.
My dad's first car was also a '66 black formula S.

My dad's was unfortunately hauled off back in the early 70's by his step dad who had it crushed in a 2ft cube. It took my dad 20yrs to find another '66 Fish. But this one he found & bought- i bought off my dad, & I found out its car #89 (100,089) off its assembly line, was ordered with dealer installed Air conditioning, Power steering, floor shift 904 automatic, rallye wood grain console, (no rallye gauges though), black leather interior, 225 slant 6, manual drum brakes, with exterior color: "Surf turquoise metallic" (LL1 paint 1960-1966 paint code), dodge's called this color "Dark turquoise metallic ", the bluer turquoise metallic of the bunch... long story short- my dad had this one im described with the same Ultra CenterLine rims that you got on yours. 🤟🏼😄🤟🏼. Only one problem with those rims: they do not allow heat to dissipate off the brakes. YOU WILL HAVE BRAKE FADE. 😬😔

Automatic transmissions were "optional equipment", these car's base models were standard with either a three on the tree (3 speed manual column shift), or a 3 on the floor manual. The 4 on the floor (4 speed manual floor shift), & both versions of the automatic transmissions were upgrades/ higher trim packages.
