    Just accepted a spot in an informatics MSN program! Currently still working on informatics experience while working at the bedside, thanks for giving me a heads up on what to potentially expect.

    This sounds similar to my Clinical practicum that was done at a Hospital. I am in my Capstone course finishing up my Practicum for my MSN in Informatics. I am excited to venture off into my new career path.

    This is all great information. I just got a job which was a transfer/promotion within my hospital system. I’ve been following you ever since I graduated with my masters in nursing informatics. Keep these videos coming!

    OH MY GOD! Im so jealous of that day. I can't wait masters in health informatics be completed and be able to find a job, hopefully internally in my hospital. I think 10 years of experience bedside is enough and some experience with center and epic will help. :)

    This was very informative! I am starting my first role in nursing informatics soon and the job duties sound very similar to everything you mentioned! The info you shared gave me a good idea on what to expect going into this role! Thanks!

      Is it highly to get a nurse informatics role that is fully remote?

    David, I've been working in nursing informatics for about 8 years and found it very refreshing to hear how common your day-to-day is compared to mine. We have some differences in my institution that are interesting. It's a large institution so we have the benefit (and downside) to more resources for specific tasks. So at-the-elbow support is one group, and implementation education and training is another. I'd love to connect and talk about similarities and differences if you would be interested.

      @@myimperfectdiary890 i went from psych to ER and its just as bad. Interventional radiology or any clinic work is good because you keep regular hours.

    I am in the FNP program. Currently taking an informatics course and I’m kind interested in this field! Unfortunately they don’t have a PMC program for informatics

    Hi David! It's so nice to watch your videos. I am now in my 3rd semester at GCU with an emphasis in health informatics. I have 3 years of bedside experience but getting burnt out working night shifts. I also injured my knee last year and concerned with the job affecting my body physically. I want to get some experience in case management at my hospital. Do you think it is a decent experience to have on top of my 3 years of bedside experience? I believe there is a connection there, too, with nursing informatics, as case managers work closely with all interdisciplinary teams and the nurses and doctors at my hospital. After all, they are still RNs and use Cerner (or other systems like EPIC) as well.

    • @DabidRobinson
      @DabidRobinson  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for supporting the page! Honestly I think working as a case manager would be a huge advantage. The more well rounded you are in healthcare the more it will benefit you as in informatics. Because in informatics we support not only bedside nurses but CNAs, MAs, RN, Case managers, providers, ect.
      Last week we rolled out a change for case managers, and there I was sitting next to a few case managers doing my best to support them, although I was not too familiar with their workflow.

    So what if you just study in nursing informatics straight and you don’t have any bedside experience you just take the whole nursing informatics course, does this mean you won’t be employed or you wouldn’t do the job well?

  • @rashamadani9927
    @rashamadani9927 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Right after my Infirnatics Masters, I have been working as an EHR - oracle Cerner application tester for five years now. Kinda regret not working as an NI in the hospital setting as my first job. But your explanation helped a lot to understand the process.

    • @DabidRobinson
      @DabidRobinson  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It’s definitely easy and comforting to settle into a role change can be good as well. It’s definitely not too late and with your experience it sure wouldn’t go to waste! Especially if you got a job at a a hospital that uses Cerner! When I was a bedside nurse I used Cerner but now I’m in NI using Epic and the transition has been quite rough lol.

    • @rashamadani9927
      @rashamadani9927 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I always wanted to learn Epic but never had an opportunity up until my NI internship. I don’t even think I will ever get hired as an epic NI without any certification in northern VA area. But your videos are nice to watch.

    Do they want more experience, or would having your MSN be sufficient? Shortly after graduation, I injured my back to the point my medical team advised I get out of bedside nursing or risk a spinal fusion in the future. I only have about a year of actual nursing experience in an ICU setting (but I've been in healthcare for over 6+ years) & my ADN.

    • @DabidRobinson
      @DabidRobinson  ปีที่แล้ว

      They want experience honestly, if you do not have experience then a MSN definitely helps but I worked with many people who only had a BSN but got in the field because they had experience.

  • @AaronmBenton1
    @AaronmBenton1 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Do you need a masters in this field or could it just be BSN ? Also does that determine the pay?

    • @DabidRobinson
      @DabidRobinson  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It does not influence pay and just a BSN would do

  • @creviapullen1669

    I’m curious to know do you have to go through beside before elevating to informatics? Or can one go straight into a nursing program, do all the required clinical, graduate and the only patient you see is a EMR software? I’m trying to the crazy long hours many of my friends have told me they go through with bedside.

    • @malcolmjelani3588
      @malcolmjelani3588 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Without bedside you're not going to have the foundational EXPERIENCE needed to be a benefit to your team. Otherwise they would just hire a health informaticist. Otherwise why would you become a nurse.

    Hi!!! I was wondering if you could do a video about getting your nursing degree paid for by your hospital. I’m currently a CNA in Utah looking to move to Arizona within the next 3 months. I’m trying to find the best places to work as a CNA. As well as finding a job with tuition reimbursement, or kind of what you did if that makes since. Also what hospital is best to work at in Arizona?

    I understand this is a growing field for right now, but I can’t help but imagine that regular IT guys could replace this high-paid position. Someone correct my ignorance. Do nursing informaticists work over the IT guys? Do you manage them and they support you?

    • @DabidRobinson
      @DabidRobinson  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      IT guys in this healthcare deal solely with physical technology. They are not of patient care background, so they do not influence changes made to documentation. We work side by side in making sure the current tech supports the changes we make. I do not see either one over taking the other.

  • @jesterskully563
    @jesterskully563 ปีที่แล้ว

    Dave, I’m very technophobic. Is it difficult to learn?

    • @DabidRobinson
      @DabidRobinson  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It's not even about technology it's about understanding how nurses and physicians operate to help make changes that make sense to their workflow! You got this!
