Much like we do with incoming Chinese bikes such as this. BUT the Japanese machines were well built AND reliable. They had to be. Either the Chinese manufacturers will work that out, or not.
Japanese competed on quality and reliability, Chinese compete on being dirt cheap. When it inevitably breaks you just throw the POS away and buy a new one.
Some of the Chinese manufacturers are pretty reliable these days. But generally the build quality of smaller manufacturers like zongshen are still complete dogshit unlike CFMOTO or QJ

Cheaping out aint wrong, but know what you buy. Brands like CFMoto, GPX and Kove are rather cheap brands, from china, and have a good reputation. Given that GPX and Kove use Zongshen engines in some of their models (which I have plenty of experience with, they're really solid) there is nothing to worry about. But no name brands and small displacement? Usually a big no. When you see such a bike, the only good thing is usually the engine, because by the time you can properly review it without killing yourself, the bike either has been worked on or has broken.

I called/emailed in about it and it was all a hassle. They proceeded to tell me that the the "warranty" only covers shipping of any replacement items after the first month. I recently called about a clutch cable that snapped in 4 months of owning the motorcycle and they sent the wrong replacement (still charged $24 shipping) and when I inquire they say it was installed incorrectly. (I had a motorcycle mechanic instal it) they refuse to assist and ship correct item and say you need to wait 24-48 hours to speak to a manager. ‼️ I DO NOT RECOMMEND ‼️

And it's been great. It's a 2006-2017 crf150 clone engine from lifan and it's better than Honda IMHO. I love the sight glass lol. I've had mine to 94 mph (gps, and follower) with gauge showing 100+. I only get about 45mpg with a 1.4g tank and that sucks. The fuel gauge is also wildly off. Shows empty flashing at half tank. BUT my bike is heavily modified guys. Isn't it only half the rpm on your techometer because it is a 4-Stroke and it only fires every 2 revolutions? I mean the techometer is only detecting the amount of times the Coil sparks, not how many revolutions the engine does...
Buy yourself a cheap smaller bike that's already been dropped. It won't hurt as much (emotionally)when you eventually drop it yourself. Any of the major brands will be ok. I wouldn't trust any Chinese made bike even if it was a known brand behind it.

@@vintageludwig What I describe are the only correct ways to do it.But many (most?) motorcycle manufacturers routinely round the displacement to a nominal number for ease in describing an engine, not the exact number. This includes Honda.

I'm wondering if your Tachometer was set to 2 cylinder, so it was reading in half? I can deal with the speedometer being off that much, all speedometers have errors (maybe not THAT much). But a tachometer being off by 1/2 is too insane (even for a Chinese bike)...
That thing is a death trap on the highway. Imagine thinking you're doing 70 and in reality you're only doing 50.
It is also illegal
@@MieczyslawPawelKolenda not in California! its insane I have reported them to the DMV as well. I was a dummy to purchase a bike from them and this exact thing happened to me, I weigh 170 and when I started to incline I lost so much power, I thought I was going to get smashed. They lie so much on their site. "400lbs without compromising performance" ya.......................................................
Bro i had this exact bike in the uk but 50CC (still with twin discs) and imagine how i felt in the hilliest part of the world! Had it for 2 months and sold for an aprilia 2 stroke, never regretted it
I lost it when he used a dump truck as a reference to 0-60 lmao
It's amusing to note, that when the Japanese (notably Honda) first started appearing (mostly UK I'm guessing, don't know how they were received in the States) they were scoffed at.
But generally the build quality of smaller manufacturers like zongshen are still complete dogshit unlike CFMOTO or QJ
honestly makes me kind of happy knowing there is atleast 1 bike that my honda civic could beat in a 0-60 lol
I have still yet to find a vehicle that my clapped out Honda accord could beat in a 0-60 race lol
Lmao bro a goddamn Prius from the 2000’s would kick this bikes ass 🤣🤣🤣
A Honda Civic, surely you have a 10 second car where you live your life a quarter mile at a time.
Yeah..but your civic would probably outlive u...😅
Well done, bro...more people need to start doing honest reviews of these cheap Chinese garbage bikes. 😏
I swear, it's like we have to constantly remind folks that you ALWAYS "get what you pay for."
lol ok man you got me. I don’t want to pay msrp for a gold wing with 200,000 miles on it
You should have Gixxerbrah test it to it's real limits! 🤣
NEED THIS
Gixxerbruh already did that. There's a video riding this bike on his channel.
I'm so grateful that you, of all the producers I watch put out not only one but several videos shitting on this bike. I honestly almost bought one. Thanks.
They must seriously regret sending that contract 😂
Wait for an offer to remove this video in exchange for something
I got a bike from Venom, years before this video. Its a Lifan brand, got 7K miles on it now, I just do regular maintenance, fluids, chain adjustment, spark plug, valve clearance adjustment. Still zero issues, its a tank. Lol!
Lifan is a good bike brand
Well, it's a Lifan after all as opposed to the other bikes on Venom.
I too bought from them a Lifan KPM200 and it's awesome.
However I'm worried about buying any non-Lifan bikes from them.
Is the company reliable?
Saw a couple Lifans for a couple grand a pop at a dealer close to my house. Dont know much about Lifan, are they a good brand for beginner bikes?
The Honda 230 engine is legendarily reliable so a copy of that engine should also be bullet proof
Well I almost died today. Some kid pulled right out in front of me while I was doing 50. Tried braking but there wasn’t enough distance. I hit the back brakes a little too hard and skid but I think that allowed me to steer left and escaped into the middle lane. I locked eyes with the kid after I skid by him. He had the “oh crap” face and kept going. I pulled over to catch my bearings. I’d like to thank all the motorcycle youtubers. Stay safe
@PapaYammie01 told me you had somehting special for me too and all it was pictures of his hairy bunghole. It wasn't special at all 😢. 0/10 don't recommend.
What has this revelation got to do with crap Chinese motorcycles?
Did you want to talk about Chinese motorcycles here? I think cf moto isn’t bad. How bout you? Any experience with Chinese motorcycles? Were you planning on getting one til you watched this 8 month old video?
@@johnstiles6663 I'm certainly not interested in your bs near miss story, but as you ask, I've had a few Chinese bikes brought to my shop and yes, they're every bit as rubbish as this one and no, I'm not thinking of buying one in the same way as I'd never buy a Hardley Ableson.
Perhaps your story might go down better on one of those crash compilations?
To be fair I probably did put it on one of dans videos. Idk it was 8 months ago. Yes I’ve had Chinese stuff in my shop too. They suck. I have only had a cf moto 4 wheeler come in tho no bikes and I was kinda impressed with cf moto. It’s not as reliable as Japanese but you do get a lot of features for the money. I don’t like Harley’s either. I probably will never buy a cf moto tho. I like Japanese bikes. Only ever owned kawasaki but mostly because of right place right time and abundance in my area
did you try to connect to OBD with Torque apps to verify the actual numbers?
idk if ur rpm reader is right bcus its a 4 stroke so surely it only reads the spark every 2 revolutions so then the rmp meter would be right or am i wrong?
You're wrong. The magneto used fires on every revolution even though it's 4-stroke. His readings are correct.
@@UTubeHandlesSuck ok
Remove all of the plastic fairings, fenders, and the seat. Replace the EFI with a carburetor. Put metal full fenders on both wheels. Put a springer seat on it. Put long bicycle style handlebars on it. Give it just an analog speedometer. Call it a JANUS and charge $10,000.
I hope you can get a 450SS to try out. Would love to see it running with the RC390 and a Ninja 400 on the track.
That would be cool.
I have a ktm390 bike sucks new overheating all time bike is ass
Did you use the motorcycle odometer or the wahoo for the mpg calculation?
By this time, I think you secretly love this " bike "
He does. In six months he'll drop the "Why I love my BOOM 229" vid.
@@adamduncan1589 The BOOM 229 vids are always fun
Out of all the languages in the world bro chose to spit facts 💯
Same with the Gixxer 250
Its a good marketing stratergy tbh. The company is not forcing yammie to priase it yet we keep on seeing this bike.
You should confront Venom and report their response - That would be a gem of a video.
yammie, i'd like to thank you for potentially saving me thousands of dollars. at one point early in my quest for my first motorcycle i looked into this bike company/others similar. not anymore.
why would you even consider it xD
@@sverremoe4087 knew absolutely nothing about motorcycles/scooters when i first came onto the scene and these "look" the coolest for their price. obviously looks mean nothing
@@darko_lengkeek-jakupovic i appreciate this reply a lot, thank you Darko!
bro... my first motorcycle was a chinese 750$ 50cc scooter when i was a kid. sadly i didnt know anything but i sold it nearly immediately and didnt lose much money. im NEVER EVER gonna buy a chinese motorcycle again. i see how it is possible for someone to buy one tho... and its sad
What really worries me is: do OTHER motorcycle brands, like the bigger ones, ask the reviewers to hide the defects?
“Your going to have trouble keeping up with your local dump truck if you are driving a boom” 🤣😂🤣😂🤣❤️
Please do reviews on Lexmoto lxr 125s and taro gp1 and 2 bikes. Both have the same chassis.
Have you checked the valves on this thing ? Most of the Chinese bikes are out of spec from the start .
There's a lot of people around the world who'd be happy and content to own such a bike.
1st world problems
‼️ I DO NOT RECOMMEND ‼️
You would think a brand new motorcycles would last more that 4 months
My perchase was a sportster chopper 250cc I received the motorcycle on April 19, 2023 the motorcycle had 5 damaged/ broken parts to it and when I received it.
I want to know what can be done to it to make it a respectable bike. Can you hone the engine and install a larger piston. Update the PCM, and even update the sprockets. Looking forward to the dyno tests.
no it is a two valves those engines have low air admission, they are made for stable torque not horsepower, this engine is what it is, good for offroading, not on road
The way to make this thing respectable is scrap it and buy a motorcycle.
Change the gearing & carb
I want to know how many HP you can add to the Boom and what it sounds like with no muffler.
Thank you for rejecting their money and making videos showing this shit, it helps new riders know to look out for suspicious things
just tell yourself it is really a 175 cc and you might like it?
That’s y I prefer CFmoto over anything
Noob question but how does wrapping that wire around the spark plug wire get you a accurate reading?
The rear tire appears to be installed backwards.
Hi Jammie . I bought a boom almost 3 month didn’t send me a correct address on title till now cannot registration bike . They said on web advertising 250 cc efi w water cooling . I make sure asking is it water cooling I use cooling fluid said yes . But after open box no water cooling radiator , missing side wing panel screw text to ask for not answer , now I realize almost everything like you said so disappointing w china bike , thnk you very much , we know more about ,
3:03 The bike actually looks really good in this angle lol
Can you point us to the little handlebar GPS speedometer gadget you used for the test?
Pretty great consumer reporting to be honest; def wanna see a KPM/R 200 given the Yammiscope.
These engines have a soft spot in my heart. Over the last 11+yrs iv built a very nasty 155cc version
Honestly, have your fun with this POS and then get rid of it. This bike needs to be eliminated, take it to a range, send some lead down said range and hasta la vista baby 👍🏻
I'm considering buying a venom thunder dirt bike. Should I avoid this brand name all together? Any recommendations on a good inexpensive first time rider dirt bike?
that tachometer was definitely set to read a 2 stroke, the engine actually sounded like the rpm the bike was showing
100 agree the tachometer that he put on was for a two-stroke the bike definitely sounded like it was idling around 800 RPM. And then he's using a bicycle speedometer on a motorcycle so that's going to be inaccurate as well
What about the cf moto 400 it seems to even out perform the ninja 400?
Cf moto 300 sorry
Really liked this video. Enjoy the idea of fact checking rogue/niche bikes out there. More please 😁
I have a 2020 KP Mini from Venom and now have 14,000 miles. Nibbi carb, ported intake, full exhaust, tires, chain, front and rear sprocket, all done before 250 miles. Im in like $4000. And I've had a great time making it a custom.
Even if its not as powerful as advertised, i would still be happy to own something like this because its still a motorcycle and motorcycles are fun.
Just because it has 2 wheels and shape of a motorcycle does make it motorcycle for fun $ at most it is commutator to take to places .
Isn't it only half the rpm on your techometer because it is a 4-Stroke and it only fires every 2 revolutions? I mean the techometer is only detecting the amount of times the Coil sparks, not how many revolutions the engine does...
I've wanted to ride my entire life basically and have never got the chance and I'm 35 now. I still wouldn't take that bike for free. 😂
Buy yourself a cheap smaller bike that's already been dropped. It won't hurt as much (emotionally)when you eventually drop it yourself. Any of the major brands will be ok. I wouldn't trust any Chinese made bike even if it was a known brand behind it.
No @ PunkRock101 you are better off with a kick ass bicycle, gives more dignity. I have a "Specialized" bicycle I love to ride when I can't twist the throttle.
Get a ktm 125/200 if available..for starters...
If ur a cruiser guy..RE would be a great option
@@nicerides9224 exactly , biking carries enough risks without riding a complete pile of un-trustworthy shite.
Free? I would grab this up for free in a heart beat
If their speedometer is off, so is how it measures the miles. Which metric are you going off of for the MPG?
I feel u have literally saved lives with the couple videos u have done on this bike.
"I'm more worried about this then the rest of the bike" I'm fucking dead 💀😭🤣😂
Didn't it occur to you that there might be a clue in that the rpm measured was about half what was indicated on the bike's rev counter ?
The engine is a 4 stroke and sparks once for each TWO revs of the engine. Did you allow for that in setting up your tacho ???
Hi . I’m a noob. I bought a venom cruiser 250cc chopper. First time I ever rode it was the last time I ever rode it. Weird stuff happened, with it. Im actually going to get around to look at it next weekend, and I’m praying that it lets me ride it for a 400mi trip in April…… should I be scared? Or terrified?
Definitely sad that’s what I resorted to, but it was at a time where impulse buying and financing went hand in hand.
I love the fact that you’re calling these douche bags out! It’s what’s needed cause there are people buying these pieces of garbage, can you imagine how pissed off he would be if you bought one of these got those results
What if the mph really meant kph and when you set it to kph it really mph. Could be a backwards reading sensor
They're likely counting counting the combustion chamber as the extra 25-30cc's of the claimed 250 cc
No. That would only be used in a compression ratio calculation. Displacement is simply a function of bore and stroke.
@doughoffman9463 Yeah, that's normally true, but with these overseas manufacturers they'll use that to bolster their products.
@@vintageludwig What I describe are the only correct ways to do it.But many (most?) motorcycle manufacturers routinely round the displacement to a nominal number for ease in describing an engine, not the exact number. This includes Honda.
Your auxiliary tacho would be reading half speed if the ignition system is the non wasted spark type which only sparks on the power stroke every other revolution other then that are there any settings for multi or single cylinder on the aux tach.
I'd be curious to see your breakdown of one of the 'better' chinese bikes like the KPR200
Better then any small engine bikes honda is putting out. Google frame welds or quality for Hondapower sports 2022 or 2023. Why is Honda still giving you halogen bulbs in your blinkers and headlights ? You're paying the premium shouldn't you get full LEDs?
that kpr 200 is slower than their enduros, and shoud not be ridden on roads with speeds over 60 mph!
Great video, Boom or Venom or whatever they are called should have this video up on their webpage so that everyone can watch before buying!
We have the same name lol spelled exactly the Same way too . First time I see someone with me
tacho seems to be correct, i think you didn't install or set up the hour meter probably. Zongshen 200-230-250 engines are rated up to 9000rpm. My old Apollo RX250(zongshen 250 Liquidcooled engine) could hit 10K, measured with a laser rpm meter and a piece of white tape on the crankshaft.
you can hear its over 5k rpm flat out
My 1974 Honda XL 125 redlined at 8k!
Did you do the mpg test at same time you did top speed and 0 to 60 runs?
Has Venom/Boom reached out to you after all these videos? lol
They haven't! I will continue beating on this bike until they do lol
LMAOOO
It reminds me of a joke I once heard in Friends where Chandler was talking about his friend who had bent his radio antenna to make it look like he was driving faster.
I' ll still buy it. The perfomance is not really important, reliability is. Too many TH-camrs just want to trash products for views. Thanks for the honest info but the slant is not needed
Ni hao mofo.
The problem with these bikes though is the engines don't last...
Do yourself a favor and buy a reputable brand!
Jeez my 865cc Twin on my Bonnivlle with intake exhaust and tune STILL does 54-6ish mpg with a full 5 gallon tank! Is there any metric where that Boom doesn't fail? 😂
Hard to check MPG if bike speedo is wrong.
Unless they went by the mileage on the portable speedo I guess.
Why there is no R15M or GSXR150R in USA?
just out of curiosity can you get it mapped to increase the power ? considering that is actually slower or the same as a honda 125cc with pushrod valves ?
..yes, but then something else will wear out faster.. the CCP did allow this production of engineering lies to be exported as the best Chinese technology....
Didn't it occur to you that there might be a clue in that the rpm measured was about half what was indicated on the bike's rev counter ?
And why didn't you use 4th. and 5th.gear instead of roaring along at about 10,000 rpm?
im looking to purchase a Venom, which would you recommend?
a modern 250 or{230} doing only 90 mph, is this the normal for a modern bike of about this size my old rd 250 yds7 did that easy ?
9:19 I couldn't stop laughing when that sticker fell
If you wrapped the rpm wire around the spark plug lead, wouldn't that read half the rpm on a 4 stroke?
No
the wire is made to be wrap around the spark wire. 2t or 4t make spark on each revolution.
This is THE BEST video you’ve done Bro!
Can you please do a similar review with Cfmoto 300sr/450sr?
