Smart to go with hour instead of city or miles. Most 3-4 year olds don’t really understand what city is(unless it’s their city and then they know they name if it)and they also don’t understand miles either. They do however understand most time…. I mean if they can understand 2,3,4 minutes based on how long you put them in timeout they could understand one hour. Candy also works. My mom does the candy bag towards the end of the trip. So right after nap time but not right before we get to the destination. Basically as a “good job for being good in the car all day!!!. Also for plane rides she basically packs a draw string bag for each person. They also have the name of the child(she has 7) and it has pretty much activities that they can play with independently plus their tablet. Then they add a snack bag that has a juice box(younger kids)a water bottle(everyone)and then a piece of fruit, a protien(like a slim Jim)and basically a snack they almost never get… also something that they can eat that will keep them quiet and busy. For instance my 9 month old sister likes Teething Cookies and that lasts her about 45 minutes, the 2,5 and 9 year old get fruit leather or lollipops, and 12,19, and 25 year old get ring pops or apples which last us about half an hour to 2 hours to finish completely
