The current rate for Chankanaab is $29 USD per adult and $20 USD for children 12 and under. Here is a link for the park if you want to check out rates for your specific dates: cozumelparks.com/en/chankanaab/
The snorkelling area is not a traditional beach - there are stairs that you walk down to get in the water and you need to know how to swim in this area. However, there is also an area for kids (or anyone) to walk into the water like a traditional beach - it's almost like a lagoon beach and it's right next to the dolphin enclosures. Hope this helps!
Would it be reasonable to book the dolphin encounter and then head to Nachi Cocom for lunch and beach relaxing? I’m wondering how efficient the dolphin encounter would be.
It might be a stretch - it would really depend on how quick you could get to Chankanaab and what time your dolphin encounter was. The taxis wouldn’t be a problem as there were plenty of them when you are ready to leave. Maybe contact the park and ask what time the dolphin encounters start?
Hey guys, I will be in Cozumel in November 2023 with Carnival and again in February 2024. I believe both Cruise Lines dock in different Ports in Cozumel. QUESTION: Did you guys book Chankanaab through your Cruise Line or on your own? If on your own, do I just go to the website?? QUESTION³: Is the snorkeling supervised?? Thanks in advance ... much appreciated. 😎⛹️♀️🚴♂️🤸♂️
We booked Chankanaab on our own. You can buy tickets right at the park on the day of your arrival - or at the roadside stand we mentioned in the video LOL! They do have a website as well. Taxis are easy from either cruise port so we didn't book through the cruise line. Snorkelling is not supervised but you can book a tour to go with a guide if you prefer. The water gets deep very quickly so good swimming skills would be advisable - especially if you are diving down to the sunken statues.
@@DocksideTravel Thanks for all the information! I'll be there Feb 2024 with NCL. Since I'm traveling on my own and have the Free At Sea port discount, I'll book through the cruise line for $39 (+tax) for the whole excursion.
If you want great snorkeling and great food, just go to the money bar. I live in the Landmark and out beach is better than Chakaanaab. The food sucks there and it is commercial.
We paid in advance for the dolphin experience and food. Are all these other options available for us or do they charge for them? Like the snorkeling and beach access?
There is an admission fee to the park itself but after that the beach and snorkeling are free - unless you want to rent equipment or book a guided tour.
At Chankanaab they accept US dollars. Tipping is always at your own discretion - in our experience the service is always top notch so we do tip our servers.
This is an area where the water gets deep (over your head) very quickly. You can get a flotation vest from the rental kiosk but we'd suggest that this is an area where you should be able to swim for sure.
Sorry - we missed your reply. There are life jackets available and the guides are right there with you so you should be ok to do the dolphin interactions as they do help you out and most of it is done from the platform anyway.
Hi! I'm considering this place and not booking through cruise line. When you get back to the port is there specific name of the port you told the taxi to go to? I saw someone comment about 2 different ports? TIA
The port where we docked was the International Cruise Port. There are a couple of ports in Cozumel and taxis will usually ask for the name of your ship but its best to check the name of the port before you go on your excursion.
It's hard to see - I missed it my first time through as well - and I was standing right in front of it! If you pause the video at the 2 min 55 second mark you can see Chankanaab - It's the 6th one down in the section on Beach Parks & Clubs. The cost for us was $12 (1-4 people).
We paid the day we arrived as it was not arranged through the ship and if we had an itinerary change for some reason we did not have to go through any cancellation/refund challenges.
My first cruise. Can you give an example as what time one can leave and what time one is required back on the ship? Also, as a picky eater, do they have hambergers? Due to a very odd reaction, I can't eat anything spicy anymore.
This is a hard one to answer as it will depend on your ship's docking time in port. It usually takes less than an hour after docking for your ship to be cleared by local authorities so passengers can go ashore. At the end of the day the cruise ship will post an "all aboard time" which is at least an hour before departure. As a rule of thumb we always aim to be back inside the port area an hour before the "all aboard time" just in case there is a delay getting back to the ship. When we were at Chankanaab they did have burgers on the menu!
Thanks for your video. This is the excursion that I was thinking of going on. Your video has convinced me to book the ships excursion there. Can't wait.
We’ve done excursions on our own. Always set alarms. If our ship has an all aboard time of 5pm, we make sure to be back by 3. Thankfully we’ve never had any issues.
hey there, thanks so much for the information. I do have a question: you are essentially paying for a day pass. So that is $52 for the both of you... how long do you usually stay there. We are scheduled to be docked from 7 am to 6 pm ( things could change of course ) but that is a very good value if it is in fact all day. The ship charges $84 for three hours and I am guessing that is travel time as well. I can see eating breakfast and getting off the ship and staying at Chankanaaab until 2 or 3 at least and heading back.
We usually stay at Chankanaab until late afternoon - by that time we often need to get out of the sun! The actual time depends on when the ships leaves - we always leave a couple of hours grace so we can explore the port area and do a little shopping. We do get off the ship as soon as we can so in total we usually get a solid 5-6 hours at Chankanaab. The price of admission if for the full day. We hope this helps!
We kept our food selection fairly basic with chicken tacos and nachos. The salsa and guacamole were great and we thought the food overall was very good. It's hard to beat the quality of the food on the ship but we like to try the local offerings and we were not disappointed here. Hope this helps!
Chankanaab has several options for food and drinks - and one of them was a version of an "all inclusive" option. The basic admission fee was $26 but this did not include any food or drinks. We have always opted to buy food and drinks a la carte while there so we cannot say if the all inclusive options were good value. Perhaps one of our other viewers can comment below?
We have a number of favorite ports in the Caribbean . Cozumel is near the top of the list for sure! We also enjoy Barbados, Aruba and Cartagena, Columbia. I’m not sure if we have ever chosen a single favorite? But that is great food for thought…

Can’t wait to go to Cozumel I will be doing the ruins chocolate and the beach excursion
We love Cozumel!
In addition to your #1 tip, make sure you're aware of "ship time" as opposed to the local time. I've heard it could be different in Cozumel.
That is a great point! Always set your time to ship's time.
Thank you
You're welcome
You guys are too cute! Headed to Cozumel in February 2025... may check out this excursion. Are life jackets provided for snorkeling?
If you do a guided snorkel tour they will provide a life jacket but if you go on your own they do not. We hope you enjoy Cozumel as much as we do!
How much is to be at the beach? 😊

Is this a traditional beach? Luke can kids just walk in the water? Or do you have to know how to swim? I can see where the water meets the sand?

Is snorkeling gear included with your entrance fee to Chankanaab park? Also what Go Pro do you use?
Hi there! Snorkelling gear was not included - Kris brings his own. We use a GoPro Hero 11.

@docksidetravel do you happen to know how much pictures are if you do the excursions/encounters through the cruise line?
Was there an extra charge for beach chairs/loungers and umbrellas?
No, chairs were included in the price of admission!

Great video and info. I wonder how you pay the 26$ admission fee like US dollar cash or credit card???
We used US cash to get our tickets but they also accept major credit cards!
Should you bring passports w you when you get off to your excursions?
Great questions! We pack a photocopy of our passport and make sure we have either the original or the copy with us on shore - usually the original!
Its the food and drinks included or you have to pay extra?
We paid for our food and drinks but they do offer some "all inclusive" options that you can purchase on arrival
How much does the Taxi driver charge you to get back to the ship?
For us it was $12 (USD).
Do they still offer manatee encounters?
We didn’t see any manatees at Chankanaab
There is a manatee swim experience for $52 listed on their website.
What about local currency? You have info on that? What about tipping?
At Chankanaab they accept US dollars. Tipping is always at your own discretion - in our experience the service is always top notch so we do tip our servers.
Do you need to know how to swim or do they help you out?

How far is this park from the ship port?
About a 10 minute taxi ride!
Do you recommend paying at park or through chankanaab website? Do you know how much it cost to swim with dolphins if you pay at the park?
We paid the day we arrived as it was not arranged through the ship and if we had an itinerary change for some reason we did not have to go through any cancellation/refund challenges.
