Preston's Hidden Gems: Avenham and Miller Parks | Preston Walk 2020

Preston is one of Lancashire's most impressive cities, with history on every street and around every corner. But on the banks of the River Ribble is perhaps its greatest hidden gem, the gorgeous Victorian open spaces of Miller and Avenham Parks.
So, join me as we take a short walk around these wonderful parks on a slightly rainy day.

Nice video - I spent all of the lockdowns in Preston before moving down South. Many memories of doing circles around the park because there was nothing else to do at the height of the pandemic. Hope to visit again one day.

very kind of you to film that as a kid we lived in the avenham pub (1970"s) and I used to ride me bike through the park to lostock hall or down to my grans house near bridge inn all gone now

Excellent! - My grandfather lived very close to Avenham Park when he was young (born 1894) - so I wonder if he visited. There is footage of Avenham Park from an Easter Egg Rolling event 1901 which is worth a look - same location - hasn't changed much at all!

amazing place preston, been lucky enough to visit rome, venice, lisbon, barcelona or istanbul and san francisco, they are all OK and bein cannibalised by the airbnb army. Iam now fascinated by these 2nd tier cities and town, cities such as this awesome preston, or bootle, halifax, motherwell, paisley, gateshead....that is why I enjoy so much your walks and can not thank you enough

@@LetsWalkUK good morning, from the distance bolton seems particularly attractive to me these days, although the surrounding rochdale, bury, salford, oldham and burnley must have plenty of great civic and religious bdgs, awesome parks, significant history and a thoroughly interesting streetscape. By the way my name is julen sanz ugarte, I was born in bilbao (basque country) although currently I live in a village called murgia, a place located about 1,900 ft high, in the central mountain belt of the basque country. Unlike the spanish people, people in the merchant & port city of bilbao have always had a very strong fondness towards the british, although there´s been a centuries long trading relationship with different english ports it is mainly due to the enormous transfer of capital and know how brought in by british engineers and financiers during the industrial revolution back in the 19th century which transformed the area like no other phenomenon before. That is the reason why Athletic Club is the name of the local football team and when fans sing -aliron, aliron athletic champion!!- the aliron comes from the english all iron, the loud cry of the miners working for the british companies when they found a rich iron seam. The riverside site of the Guggenheim Museum was locally known as the field of the english, for a while London was the only european main capital served by the then squalid local airport, there is even a protestant cemetery, an english school and many middle and upper class families send their siblings to study in the UK.
