On August 25, 2017, five years ago today, Hurricane Harvey hit the Greater Houston area with a vengeance. Many people lost everything in the flood. Thankfully, my home was spared, so I soon began volunteering at the Mamie George Community Center, also known as Catholic Charities, distributing food and clothing to those in need. On my third day there, we were running out of supplies. AND THEN...an 18-wheeler arrived with hundreds of boxes of clothing, shoes, towels, blankets, and household goods. This truck full of love was all the way from Alexandria, Minnesota!!! AND...the boxes were accompanied by love notes, written with colored markers on scraps of brown corrugated boxes: "we love you and we're praying for you" and many other sweet words of encouragement. What a remarkable act of kindness this was! Thank you, dear Minnesotans, for providing a "bridge over troubled waters". And thank you, Damien and Schola Diffusa, for this lovely song.
