Long time fan of the reviews boys, but this game crashes everytime I go to a match...10 times in an hour...AEW FIGHT FOREVER is officially in my boy stable!!
5:25 Cody is far from the first person in history to be officially licensed in two rival wrestling games in the same calendar year. Bret and Bulldog were in both WWF War Zone and WCW/nWo Revenge in 1998. Jericho was in both WWF Wrestlemania 2000 and WCW Mayhem in 1999. Hogan and Eddie Guerrero were in both WWE Smackdown: Shut Your Mouth and Legends of Wrestling II in 2002 (and Hogan was also in WWF WrestleMania X8 for GCN). Just gotta say anyone who bought this game based on OSW’s review, the game is good but the story mode is lacking. I watched this review and got the game because I thought the story sounded cool, but it’s not how it’s sold like. All the storyline’s you do in the game are completely disconnected, with no real connection. You can win the tag titles and then you’ll just never defend them or even be mentioned as tag champ.
Couple of small points: Matt’s gripe about the submission and ladder mini games in WWE2k being really hard is odd. I’ll give him the ladder one as that’s not overly simple (it’s still not hard) but he said he preferred AEW’s as that’s just pressing a button, and then another button. He then makes a point about submissions being hard in 2k when it’s just button mashing. So he likes the button pressing in AEW but not WWE? V1 mentions near the end about Cody’s WWE entrance being great and long but then annoying after seeing it loads of times. He does know you can skip entrances right?
I gave up on this review; idk why but they can’t be objective about AEW. I don’t hate AEW but you can’t honestly believe that this game looks better than 2k23 and it’s not even stylized enough to say it is going for a unique look. It legitimately looks like the action figures vs 2K that’s nearly photo real. Also the characters are 3 years out of date… like 1 is kinda industry standard and they try to update songs and hopefully get to important visual things but this is like 2k20’s roster coming out in 2k24
You have to realise something is annoying you, before you remember to skip it. And to the other guy, if you don't like the graphics then don't buy it but for a lot of us, we'd rather have a game that looks ass but is fun (Fight Forever) over a game that looks great but isn't a good time to play (most big games released in the last three years in all genres).
It’s not cartoony… it’s low res. Those aren’t synonyms. It legitimately looks rubbery like I said like old school action figures. An opinion isn’t a defense for a stupid argument, if I said Malbogia from the 90s spawn looks better than Thanos from Avengers you are aloud to say… “uhh are you just shilling?” Especially when they admit they got the game for free
People trot out the "it's like No Mercy" when it's honestly probably more in line with the Gamecube WWE games like Wrestlemania 19 and the Day of Reckoning series which felt like an update to the formula at the time.
I agree that it plays more like DoR. I really liked the physicality of it but I actually really enjoyed the slower pace of the N64 games. A point the guys were making that it plays quite fast and twitchy is actually a minus for me.
In regards to the Exploding Barbed Wire Death Match: they did actually add an option/chance for the pyro to utterly fail as a nod to the Moxley Omega disaster.
V1 saying that this game will hold up in 20 years in terms of graphics whereas 2k23 will look terrible is very strange I think it’ll be looked back on like the impact game in that it aged really poorly with its different style
@@PanelVulture I think that was the point he was trying to make even though I completely disagreed because the game doesn't look 'timeless' or anything like that. I really hope they flesh it out a bit more in the future and work on what they have then it could turn into a really decent game.
To correct Yukes and WWE relationship breaking down, after 2K19, Yukes announced that they were making their own wrestling game because they wanted to make “something else” in their own words. 2K hated that, took half-baked 2K20 away from Yukes, gave it to Visual Concepts, and resulted in the fine mess that was 2k20.
Hey guys great vid but I gotta ask why are you calling Yuke’s and THQNordic new companies? Both have been around for years, and so I don’t cut them as much slack. Especially Yukes because they had been developing wwe games for years.
Regarding the jukebox, for some reason by default it only loops those few in game songs over and over. You have to manually select all/add all the wrestler themes to the rotation and turn on randomization, otherwise it will play the same songs in the same order over and over. It's a weird oversight in the game.
@@lracseroom8286 Yeah as much as I find V1 hilarious the majority of the time, when he starts talking about his opinions, (mostly about games) it can get borderline hypocritical. They start well enough, with the "you can like what you like", but so often it'll turn into effectively, "if you don't have my opinion you are either wrong or stupid". That's something I've picked up on when he tags along for game reviews.
OSWReview is increasingly positive of everything they review, and that's why I love them. Even when they review crap, they put a light spin on it. Life is too short to hate everything, ESPECIALLY pro-wrestling. but yes, V1's explanation that Fight Forever will age well, unlike WWE games...because the next version of the WWE games will make the old ones look bad? So does that mean that every future AEW game will look this bad graphically?
5:30 re: Cody Rhodes being in 2 rival wrestling games in the same calendar year. Bret Hart was in both WWF Warzone (July 1998) and WcW/nWo Revenge (October 1998).
I don’t think saying “AEW is only 4 years old so …” works as an excuse for the lack of matches or all the bugs because AEW themselves didn’t make the game it was made by developers with decades of pro wrestling games experience
Not to mention it was announced like 3 years ago and talked about since the founding of the company. There’s really no excuse for the bugs at that point.
You just don't get it. By breaking free of the annual cycle and taking three times longer to develop the game, they were able to deliver you a third of the content for full price. Please enjoy.
Classic beloved games like Skyrim and Witcher 3 were in development for much longer, by bigger studios, build upon previous title experiences and engines , and STILL released in horrendous states . Took years of patching to fix, and still full of bugs and glitches to this day. This isn't me "shilling" for the game, as I have no interest in it and think its just another garbage lazy copy paste wrestling game This is me pointing out that you either don't know much about video game development, or just want to rag on anything AEW related as most people seem to do online It's the cool thing to do I guess Trash this game, but WOWWWWW 2k added 1 new feature every year for the past almost 10 years, while taking away features from previous titles, and the game still broken. So if the measuring stick for AEW video game is "Its been in development for 3 years and theres no excuse for a 4 year old company....", what is the threshold for WWE video games that still suck and have been awful since SVR 2007
@@ITRiBUTEIFor someone who claims to be not shilling, you sure doing a lot of shilling. I seem to recall Witcher III and Skryim getting GOTY declarations upon release. This game is getting 6s from multiple reviewers.
@@ITRiBUTEI those games are literally hundreds of times bigger in scope and Yukes has made this exact type of game for 20+ years. The game it's trying to be a spiritual successor to (No Mercy) has more customization options, a visible branch so you can navigate career mode without a FAQ, and way more finisher slots. Weird that you think the WWE games have sucked for so long but magically really like THIS one even though it's still all Yukes? I'm sure that's me being biased though, and you're not being unreasonable at all comparing this games scope to Witcher 3 and Skyrim. Good god dude I wish you were shilling, at least you'd get paid for a take this bad and strawman heavy.
22:25 Regarding this, play through the story mode until you unlock the option to buy the "Historic" explosion for the Exploding Barbed Wire match. You will be delighted by what happens.
Seeing the footage in this video has convinced me that I never want to buy this game. I do find it interesting that many of the flaws of past WWE games are negatives, while the flaws of this one are apparently charming, but to each their own. Hopefully they make a better game sometime, and hopefully it won’t take a decade.
How much did Tony Khan kick down to Matt Muscles. The graphics are bad.... That makes it charming.... The storyline isn't that good..... that makes it memorable. Congratulations for being all in
Snapshot album will show you all the available storylines in Road to Elite. There are three storylines for each PPV for 12 total. You can see all of them in three playthroughs
There were times where I questioned the honesty of V1/Matt in this review, especially with how hard they defended what are objectively pretty bad graphics. Enjoying a video game is of course subjective but this review felt bordering on shill-work at times.
Aew fans are wild. You actually wanted the charisma vacuum and some fat fuck? I heavily doubt those two would have been people itching to buy this game
@17:35 "They dont look like they dropped a load in their jocks" while Penta literally does the shuffle of an old man with a Depends filled to capacity🤔
Especially for a clearly unfinished game. If this was released as free to play with built dlc, or at most 20 dollars, it would be worth the price. Haven't been disappointed with a launch title since cyberpunk
Yeah, if I remember correctly, that No Mercy save bug was in version 1 of the cartridge (No offence, Steve) as Matt said. Never happened in the revised 1.1 cartridge I had as a kid. Unfortunately, mine was swapped for a buggy version in a heel turn from a friend just before leaving school.
It might have only been a bug with the PAL version of the cartridge too. I pre ordered mine here in the US so I know I got the first edition and I never experienced the glitch.
Literally just played Rumble Roses for the first time like an hour ago and heard the teat sheep line naturally for myself and then it was mentioned in this vid, 11/10
I’m glad that you guys are having fun with the game, but I honestly wouldn’t recommend it right now. The fact that this game has less features, modes, and match types than a 20 year old game made by the same company (or even Fire Pro Wrestling World, which is more of an indie title than this) is $60-70 in 2023 is inexcusable. I love that the AKI style gameplay is back and that it runs much better than WWE 2K, but graphics and gameplay isn’t enough. Side note: I don’t think you guys or NewLegacy or anybody who got a code for this game really understand that this game right now is not worth the money. I know that this game is going to be constantly upgraded and improved for years to come instead of being an annual roster update for $60-70, but it’s ridiculous that I could still play HCPT or No Mercy (emulation or physical hardware) and get the same or greater amount of enjoyment than spending way more that it’s worth to play this. I’m not mad or hating on this game or anyone that has found joy in this, but I figured that some more light should be shined on the fact that this game has less to do than a 20+ year old game and cost way too much just because it’s an AEW game. Also, there’s no excuse for this to be so bare bones or to say it’s an indie title, because it’s not. The developers, publishers, and IP are all major players in their respectable fields. If it needed to take longer to put more into it, then so be it. Let it take forever, at least it would show that they really cared and not tried to rush out a game that looked no different than when it was shown off a year ago. Anyways, congrats on getting to review it early and give your thoughts on it, as well of nL. You guys deserve it
I can't stop thinking about this comment as V1 complains about day 1 dlc before immediately admitting he's going to buy it/enable them. Its like Rick James on the Chappelle show levels of credibility lol
Confirmed..... i legit do not trust a single game review person/ website/etc....... ill watch "before you buy" if im on the fence to get a better feel for what im in for.
Why are you forgiving this game for lacking match types when the developer has the pedigree of Yuke's, who have been making wrestling games for decades?
Mate the game's being made from the ground up, and since it's a few years post pandemic, it's likely an entirely new team? And it's made in conjunction with the aew guys, who are novices at working on games. Bitta leeway seems fair
@@OSW That's ridiculous. There are games made by one guy with no experience that are incredible and games made by highly experienced and successful AAA studios that have been absolute garbage. And there there are games made by one guy with no experience that are garbage and games made by highly experienced and successful AAA studios that are incredible. You mentioned the TNA game, but by no means it was a young studio: Midway in itself was a whole 50 years old (35 when they started in the videogame business), Midway Studios LA was 4 years old (and as CWS/Paradox, 14 years old - by the way they developed Thrill Kill and Shaolin Monks as well as the Wu-Tang game!), not even the even the ports' developers had a decade of work before them (most notably Ready 2 Rumble Boxing and MK Trilogy as well as NFL Blitz).
People need to stop saying this is the first game so cut them some slack. Yukes has been making these games for over 2 decades. People act like some new developer made it.

I really enjoyed the game the first day... and then, on the second day for no apparent reason, it started crashing every time I try to start a match, save a created wrestler, do anything in story mode, etc. Like, right now, the game is literally unplayable for me on PS4 because I can't do anything without it crashing. And the more I think about it, the more that pisses me off. I know this game had a longer window between announcement and release than many were expecting, but the fact that such a game-breaking bug could happen so shortly after launch makes me think that maybe they should've sorted that out before they greenlit shipping the final product out. Because my initial impression of the game was quite positive, but having to deal with this level of a technical issue has soured my opinion of it significantly.
Smackdown: Here comes the pain is the greatest wrestling game ever and one the greatest games ever. Unbelieveable easy and fun game play. With a superb edit mode.
Ouch. That sucks. Create A Wrestler not being good is a massive deal breaker. I dont think i played No Mercy once as an actual character. How did they fuck that up?
Honestly, the game just really missed for me. The story felt closer to bad parts of Yakuza and there were a lot of bugs than just broke things. Controllers dropped all the time. When playing more often than not, the controls delayed or didn't trigger at all. Weapons would disappear or someone would randomly slide all over the ring. At best it may be a 2/5 for me.
Just commenting to say that yes, early versions of No Mercy did have an erase bug. You know it's about to happen because when you do match your custom wrestler walks in as generic (The default look of the CAS until you started working on them). I'm pretty sure once you see it it's already too late to salvage it.
I still have horrible memories of that awful scratchy Original Theme 1 coming on, signifying that my awesome CAW, ReaperMan, had gone to the big Gorilla position in the sky. (I know the name’s shit, I was 13)
Oh dear GOD - the N64 No Mercy bug was really traumatic. The internet was so basic at the time - I actually thought that it was god taking vengeance upon me for enjoying semi-naked men. I seem to remember, I had a memory card ritual to get things back, after much trial and error.

@@Killbrokraft Usually people who rush to the 'touch grass' defense, are actually quite bothered themselves.
I think the submissions minigame Matt is referring to is the "chase each other around the circle" game that everyone hated.
All of the years of development and a mountain of money later... and we get a AAA game that looks like a mobile game.
Its looks nothing like a mobile game lol. What should it look like. All the wrestlers look like themselves
Mobile game is unfair imo
Come on, no it doesn't.
It looks like a launch ps3 game lol
Praying for Brody King and Buddy Mathews additions to this game.
They are my lost boys with the coolest movesets.
Totally agree
Crying shame Billy Gunn isn’t in the game (yet…) should be right on the front cover, bigger than anyone else!

Yeah I nearly fell out of my chair when that was said.
For me it was the line from the guest guy about jpeg backgrounds being "really neat and refreshing". Some mind-boggling opinions in this review.

WWE 2k20 was meant to warn us about the actual year 2020
I still remember how much of a shitshow that game was. DEAR LORD
WWE 2k20 GOAT
I'll have to disagree with the 2k23 controls, I find them really easy to use. Looking forward to playing fight forever tho
The create a wrestler versions in WWE 2K are better than most of these character models.
You guys have the most positive review on this I've seen so far. Which actually has me skeptical of it even more now lol.
Right? Glad I’m not the only sussy one
The movement is a little iffy but it's been fun as online so far

This isn't me "shilling" for the game, as I have no interest in it and think its just another garbage lazy copy paste wrestling game
This is me pointing out that you either don't know much about video game development, or just want to rag on anything AEW related as most people seem to do online
It's the cool thing to do I guess
Trash this game, but WOWWWWW 2k added 1 new feature every year for the past almost 10 years, while taking away features from previous titles, and the game still broken.
Good god dude I wish you were shilling, at least you'd get paid for a take this bad and strawman heavy.

didnt the new legacy inc guys get it by just both taunting at the exact same time right before the explosion?
Seeing the footage in this video has convinced me that I never want to buy this game. I do find it interesting that many of the flaws of past WWE games are negatives, while the flaws of this one are apparently charming, but to each their own. Hopefully they make a better game sometime, and hopefully it won’t take a decade.
How much did Tony Khan kick down to Matt Muscles. The graphics are bad.... That makes it charming.... The storyline isn't that good..... that makes it memorable. Congratulations for being all in
Thanks for the video lads! Always a better day with OSW in it 🙏

There were times where I questioned the honesty of V1/Matt in this review, especially with how hard they defended what are objectively pretty bad graphics. Enjoying a video game is of course subjective but this review felt bordering on shill-work at times.
Evil Uno not being in the game is really sad, QT Marshall (pre QTV) not being in their is sad for the boy stables everywhere
Which is weird because I’m pretty sure Uno himself was directly involved in the development and stuff for the game.

@@FatherAxeKeeperIt's definitely in the US release. My uncle gave me his copy, which is the original release, and it's happened a ton to me.

I have to say, I’d rather have cage matches in the game than a wrestling-themed Mario Party mode.
How they couldn't have Daniels and Kaz since they were tag champions with Scorpio Sky/SCU initially since the launch is staggering.
You can actually see Kaz posing with a tag belt in the opening video.
@@JackgarPrime not enough, fans want SCU or at least Daniels cause Daniels is great.

Of all the women wrestlers in the game, I'm glad Abadon made the cut, considering how she gets almost no TV time.

YES! My copy of No Mercy had the "erase everything and I mean everything" bug. Completely ruined and ended my experience with No Mercy. I LOVED Wrestlemania 2000 though.
There is a later revision which fixed the bug but it also removed the visible blood (at least here in the Ireland/PAL versions)
After having come so far just to have the game delete everything, I was over it and I think I never played it again. I remember being extremely sad.
All the music surrounding the minigames sounded exactly like something from WM 2000 or No Mercy to me. I loved that.

@12:25 Hoping for an 8 wrestler DLC pack for $15? I guess it depends on whether THQ has updated its pricing model to match WWE 2K23, which looks to have upped the price of DLC wrestlers. ($10 for just Bad Bunny? $5 for individual "throwback" versions of guys like Cena or Batista?)
They're not boys because they got titles, but the Gunns or Billy Gunn not being in the game is criminal.

Honestly, the game just really missed for me. The story felt closer to bad parts of Yakuza and there were a lot of bugs than just broke things. Controllers dropped all the time.
