Something I think gets lost without context is the significance of her singing Atlantis Princess at the very end of the 202020 documentary. Atlantis Princess (released in 2003) is one of BoA's biggest hits in Korea. But it's also the song she was promoting when her manager died in a tragic car accident. She performed the song one more time in 2003 after that (under pressure, only three days after he passed) in a devastating way and then didn't perform the song again for twelve years. She never stated it specifically, but when she first decided to sing it again (in 2015) she did obliquely mention that it's a song that reminded her of sad times, that she thought she could finally feel comfortable singing again only now. So to the fans, being able to see BoA singing Atlantis Princess with a smile on her face now is really touching!
What they didn’t mention in the shows was that BoA literally saved the Kpop industry from dying out and South Korea’s economy from down spiraling by going to Japan. Through her these two feuding countries opened up their borders and started opening up trade. The money she brought into both countries through music and tourism was staggering at the time. Without BoA South Korea would still be picking up the pieces of financial collapse and we wouldn’t even know the existence of Kpop in the west.
About being the host, she means the "Save you in my heart" part. The gesture was first done by then Produce 101 contestant Park Jihoon, now a solo artist and actor. Boa was the host of that show. Oricon chart is an equivalent of Billboard chart in Japan. Boa literally was the first Korean artist to top the chart. Oh, the member from SNSD you didn't know in a previous video was Hyoyeon. She's actually a huge Boa fan. She was inspired to become an idol by Boa. Yoo Heeyeol is founder and producer of Anthena Music, and also a solo artist under the name TOY. Boa and Yoo Heeyeol worked together as judges of the talent show KPOP Star.
All the directors etc that were in the documentary are names you'll come to recognize immediately if you watch a lot of sm groups. It was really cool hearing them talk about how they grew/started their career with boa because they are all top players in their respective fields now with choreo/perf directing, composing, etc. I also find it amusing whenever I see interactions between boa & lee soo man. Most of the other sm artists treat him quite formally but with boa shes like his niece 😂
She saved SM from tanking and opened the bridge to the Japanese market. So without BoA we wouldn’t know the artists we love and support today would have been.
sorry for double post but this is after the fact i learned the link before video is from some korean show dance gayo 댄스가요 apparently it is 8 episodes of her and some other legend singers i'm about to watch it now lol i am just intrigued by BoA a great singer artist dancer always charasmatic
So BoA was the youngest professional idle. Kid idles are apparently a thing. She was signed at 11 and debuted at 13 in 1998 iu debuted at 15 in 2008. PS I SAY WAS BECAUSE NOW A NEW GEN IDLE IS OFFICIALLY THE YOUNGEST BY A FEW MONTHS😂
