    I recently had an opportunity to work for 2 weeks in a shop with 2 english wheels, a power shrinker/stretcher and a planishing hammer. The man gave me a top wheel to begin making my own englisg wheel so I will have to get the lower wheels to complete it and your project was a tremendous help. I had wondered if an air hammer could work for that and you proved it for me. Bless your soul Bob.

    Bob, I just wanted to tell you how much I am enjoying your clever sense of humor and your brilliant mechanical knowledge. You amaze me and I have been around mechanical things since I was very very young. I also was blessed with a sense of how things worked and fit together. I used to take apart really complicated things like an alarm clock when I was only 3 or 4 years old. I have always enjoyed the workings of complicated things. You bring out the joy of that aspect in me. It is so wonderful to watch a person who understands these things and demonstrates that knowledge in the way you see a challenge and meet it with clever resolve. I will continue to watch your very fun and entertaining videos. Thanks so much.

    Unless you scrounge your metal, their price ain't wrong. I like yours better and wish I had the tools and my life as a do over but then don't we all. I did have fun and was I to see this, would make my version of it! It's a must have tool if you a fabricator. Nice bike build, not all bike need a hundred plus cc engine. I like a bike with enough torque to get you out of and not into trouble. Your seems to address all of that. Good video

      Not only the price of metal ... I spent two days labor on this thing. But I think I ended up with a better build than that Harbor Freight one!

    Looks like the Alien in the movie by the same name. Excellent work Bob. Would it be better to replace the Tee handle adjuster with a solid rubber tread wheel from a lawnmower or small cart ? Less chance of banging your shin. And it might allow for an easier grip when fine tuning clamp pressure. Mount low enough you could adjust with your foot. Really enjoy your projects. Keep on keepin' on. Best to you and yours.

    Looks great, can always buy a bar of 4140 or some sort of tool steel to make better dies out of, if/when you need them. You obviously won't have much trouble putting an English wheel together from scratch, just got to stump up for the wheels.

    • @RatRodBobBuilds
      @RatRodBobBuilds  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes ... or I can just use some high tensile rods and build up the top of the dies with that then heat treat it! I have metal to build the English Wheel too!

  • @steveshoemaker6347
    @steveshoemaker6347 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why don't you harden those dies....Heat them up red hot then throw the in oil...That way thay wont bend up .....THANKS BOB take care my friend...! PS that's some mighty fine weld you done on that tool you made...WOW...!

    • @RatRodBobBuilds
      @RatRodBobBuilds  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And ... when you treat them in oil that way .. they have less tendency to rust!

    Nice Build! I think I might make one myself and film it since I have a lot of time off because of Covid-19. I'm going to make my own dies on the lathe as well, but I'm going to use a torch to get them red hot and quench them in oil to harden them. May work may not, we'll see!!!

    • @RatRodBobBuilds
      @RatRodBobBuilds  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      My dies are made from mild steel. No problem yet but if I do see that they need hardening I'm gonna add some metal with my MIG welder which has harder wire than mild steel and may even take heat treating better.

      No more than I use it they're fine .. but if it comes down to it I will weld some hard metal on it with my MIG and reshape!

      Sounds like a good plan, I’m just in the process of building one and saw the price of dies, I like your option better. Thank you for the reply.
