As a youngster, I never missed an episode of Combat, 12 O'clock High, or Rat Patrol. My grandfather was a WW I veteran at 16 years of age. My step dad was a WW II vet. My uncle a Vietnam vet. I cannot begin to realize the horrors of war that they experienced. I appreciate the sacrifices of all our vets very very much. Now at 66 years of age, I can no longer watch these programs that portray the horror and futility of war. War is the ultimate pinnacle of mankind's failure at humanity. History has largely been ignored by the masses and we are doomed to repeat the same mistakes over and over again for generations yet to come. The peoples of this world have learned nothing.

This show reminds me of when I use to go to the movies for a quarter and I would sit through the same movie over and over and over again in Montana great falls. But the movie wasn’t a combat show it was of all things sleeping Beauty. I must have seen it about 8 times But that’s how much I love the tv show Combat. I watch it over and over and over again. I never get tired of it. Wonderfully written show. And Conlan Carter who is I believe is 90 years old. Still happily married. I think he lives on the oregon coast some where. He must like our rain or beach winds. Well when it’s hot here it’s like it’s never rained. We have some weird weather. I thought Carter is an actor that is under appreciated.

By 1967 , alot of these ww2 programs , like , Rat Patrol , Hogans Heroes , Gallant Men , 12 O'Clock High , Mc Hales Navy , Gomer pyle , and Combat itself were taken off the air partly due to the anti-war sentiment brought on by the War in Vietnam(South Vietnam that is )!

Repressive role for Sgt. Saunders this one right here... Like an all seeing Angel abstaining from becoming too physically involved... yet administering the covering hand of concealment for the men in his protective charge, even the covering morphine stay of pain for that of his superior... thus mirroring the actions of those so assigned by The Almighty to us all. 25:00 pays to be a lefty, huh Caje! -Former Sgt' "Rock" 82nd Abn. 1/504 Inf. 71-74

Another riveting episode! Just a shame it had to end so abruptly. Would have loved to see the reaction of the German soldiers when they came back to find the Captain dead. You can just imagine the guys trying to get as far away as possible while the Germans are coming after them on foot and in their vehicles.
There are so many of these episodes you just hate to see end because they get you so deeply interested that you can almost envision yourself right there with them, and you are trying to think your way out of the problems they face!

Not sure whether many recognize the "new guy" here, but it's Corey Allen. He did a "chicky run" with James Dean in REBEL WITHOUT A CAUSE. Eventually became a pretty good T.V. director in his own right even after driving off that cliff. Reincarnation happens often in Hollywood.
