I once wrote a cover story for a magazine while listening to this and only this, repeated over and over. Best part is, I later got to interview Glasper and express my thanks. He is a singular talent.
Thank you Jamil, and if I may borrow your inspiration, I will listen to this while writing as well! Beautiful, soulful and inspiring indeed. I can only imagine your interview with Robert Glasper was wonderful.

I’ve played this “joint” at least 30 times since the first time I heard it. Dinner Party as a concept is truly “insane”. Terrace Martin, who I’ve loved since “Beige”, Kamasi since “Street Fighter Mas” and, well, Glasper 👌🏾 who I recently saw in Johannesburg, South Africa. I like how they don’t try and dominate each other but instead let the colab play itself out in such a pleasing manner.
FACTS. a blessing. Discovered him in 2015 and wasnt feeling it...was too occupied. then i listened again...played him non stop for 2 years straight did not leave my playlist...smh So many good memories from Black Radio 1 and 2 and remix. Now on his new stuff and his straight Jazz/ Awww wow. Hooked
one of my all time favs, covered by Glasper as only Glasper can.... Wooooohhhhwwwwwweeee. I am touched and transported by the language that is uniquely music....
I just recently discovered Robert Glasper and have already introduced him to my friend who has an for this kind of music.A star is born is what he said in reply.happy listening in South Africa.
Well, you know Robert is a groove master who knows how to weave a mood and this piece is sweet in the way the drummer is playing the melody via the mallets!!! The bass is so spot ON!!!
I identify with this song. It’s hopeful with a cathartic melancholy feel . Like thinking about the best of past relationships without thinking about the reason why the relationship is over.
Yes the engineers did great and obviously the musicians are all excellent, but I would say the room also helped. Appears to be recorded in the large room at Capitol. I was there back in the late 70's. The room is amazing.
This man is genius. I'm no musician, but I love good music. Hearing him play is like tasting a different kind of food that give your taste buds an overload of happiness. I can study to this
This is Amazing!! One thing I love about Robert Glasper is his unique ability to interpret a song. He just paints an entire different side to a song. Wow.

The powers that control the music industry don't want people taking in a positive wavelength, positive energy, and positive vibrations. They are trying to tell us what to listen to. Wow. Iam Dutch. But Let me tell U one thing America. Black people are the best in culture. In theatre music and sports. International treasures 😎
What a lefty remark making this a "racist" thing now....

Jazz at it's absolute finest....... take me away!
The man plays incredible!!! His touch on the keys is divine. Not a showboater, but plays soooooo deep!
ouyi!!je l'adore!!
Not a show boat is the best part. Ran into several musicians who claimed they toured with him. Dunno, but all have said he's a cool/nice dude.
Wow good staff 👍 indeed I discovered him just now on you tube & he just frees my mind...
Saw him live! Maybe not a showboater but definitely a showman 😉
@@marnixweiler5759 definitely can be a showboater when he wants to, the man can shred the piano as well
This brother is phenomenal! I saw the movie “The Photograph” and was mesmerized by the soundtrack and bought it on the way home!

Exactly
I like this more than the original song. It sounds like a great jazz piece on its own.
You can close your eyes and this speaks to whatever mood you're in...
I identify with this song. It’s hopeful with a cathartic melancholy feel . Like thinking about the best of past relationships without thinking about the reason why the relationship is over.
What a recording! Sound engineers, i salute you!
The double bass came in like a whole universe
Yes the engineers did great and obviously the musicians are all excellent, but I would say the room also helped. Appears to be recorded in the large room at Capitol. I was there back in the late 70's. The room is amazing.
Meh, I find it a bit of dark recording with a high emphasis on the low end. It misses openness and sparkle.

The arrangement at the end is superb .. he has a legends touch
This is a journey along a long winding road.
WOW, I cant get enough of this. So much style in his playing and the group is so tight. It sounds like one person playing one instrument.
I'm completely speechless
I own all of his albums. That's how much I like his music. This one though is probably my favorite. This is an awesome Trio.
Tell me whatcha say now?
Tell me whatcha say
Come again?
If you cannot stay down
Then you do not have to pretend
Like there is no way out
I shoulda never let you in
'Cause you got me face down
And don't take this personal
But you're the worst
You know what you've done to me
And although it hurts I know
I just can't keep runnin' away
I don't need you, I don't need you, I don't need you, I don't need you
But I want you
I don't mean to, I don't mean to, I don't mean to, I don't mean to
But I love you
Tell me whatcha say now
Tell me whatcha say?
You said that you would come again
You said that we would remain friends but
You know that I do not depend on
Nothing or no one
So why would you show up
So uninvited then
Just change my mind like that
Please don't take this personal
But you ain't shit
And you weren't special
Til I made you so
You better act like you know
That I been through worse than you
I just can't keep runnin' away
I don't need you, I don't need you, I don't need you, I don't need you
But I want you (But I want you)
I don't mean to, I don't mean to, I don't mean to, I don't mean to
But I love you
Everybody's like
He's no item
Please don't like em
He don't wife em
He one nights em
I never listen, no
I shoulda figured tho
All that shit you was spittin'
So unoriginal
But it was you
So I was with it
And tell you the truth
Wish we never did it
'Cause I usually do
Stick to the business
But you came out the blue
And then you just flipped it
God damn baby
My mind's blown
I be forgettin'
You live in a different time zone
I think I know what this is
It's just the time's wrong
Yeah, I know what you did
But baby I'm grown
And my love is patient
And kind, and shit
If this is real we can build
And do different types of shit
If you was really the realest
Wouldn't be fightin' it
I think your pride is just
In the way
Funny how everything changed
Once you got all that you wanted
Nothing was ever the same
I don't need you, I don't need you, I don't need you, I don't need you
I still want you
I don't mean to, I don't mean to, I don't mean to, I don't mean to
But I, but I love you
I don't need you, I don't need you, I don't need you, I don't need you
But I want you
I don't mean to, I don't mean to, I don't mean to, I don't mean to
But I love you
Thank you!
