i am so late to the party but thrilled you loved writers and lovers too. Youve more than doubled subs since this!! the ottessa print in the back is awesome. belated welcome to youtube
Hi! I’m new to your channel and I love your Year of Rest and Relaxation picture that’s framed! I’d never heard of these books before. I’m really interested in Bonsai. Happy Reading! Can’t wait to keep following along!
thank you for tuning in!! bonsai’s a super quick read - you can’t go wrong!! i also gor your DM on instagram and will respond to you soon ☺️ thanks for the sweet comment
Eeeep I love how you spoke about Zambra! And I had the same impression with that Nettel! I love things that explore short sparky loves with long linger-y afterimages! And I fear I feel the same about Patti Smith. I started reading devotions and stopped under the guise of a soft DNF, but idk. This was an excellent reading month! I totally feel that Writers and Lovers finds you at exactly the right time, too)
yessss i felt like the zambra and nettel had a very similar vibe!! i’m glad it’s not just me who can’t get into patti smith. i haven’t had any patti smith stans try to convince me i’m wrong 😂
Congratulations! Thank you for this discussion, too. I read Parable of the Sower years and years ago and it has really stuck with me. It is definitely really intense. Parable of the Talents is a really different angle on the story.
thank you!! i’m glad you enjoyed parable of the sower!! i was reading a bit about parable of the talents and it sounds interesting, i think i. will pick it up eventually! have you read anything else by octavia butler?
I really enjoyed Kindred--which deals with the issue of slavery in an interesting way. (I'm a historian of that period, so I found it especially interesting, I suppose.) @@casskrug
Congrats on 1K bb !!! Don’t mind me gonna go HAM on these ?’s: - what culture changed you? - book that shaped the way you see/move through the world? - coffee order m? - silly weekend drink? - book that best represents you and your life? - how do you like to unwind from the day?
Sarah Manguso! I love her writing. 🥰. I’m so glad you liked the Guadalupe Nettel. I was blown away by what Nettel can do. I highly recommend Still Born if you haven’t read it.
@@casskrug , I can see why - because of it’s more defined subject matter. And ohhh it’s as subtle as the one you just read in sneaky and powerful ways. I’m so glad I discovered her last year. 🥰
really cool to hear your review of 'Writers and Lovers.' I've been on the fence about whether or not to read it , and what's made me go for it is it's the May pick for Is Bailey Reading? here on youtube's Shelf This book club. Your review gets me excited to read it!
congratulations on hitting 1k !!! : '') writers & lovers was on my radar for a while now, might as well pick it up asap, especially after hearing your review. i have two questions! non book-related, if you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be and why ? book-related, if you have your life written by any author, who would it be and why?
thank you for all your support for the channel! you’ll have to let me know what you think of writers and lovers! just added your questions to the list :)
Patti Smith doesn’t do it for me either. I still need to read Just Kids but the other two I read from her fell flat. The Coral Sea was beautifully written on a sentence level but was otherwise pretty obscure and I DNF M Train because it had too much name-dropping for me. My favourite books of January were The Year of Magical Thinking, and Eat Your Mind: The Radical Life and Work of Kathy Acker.
i’m glad it’s not just me!! just kids was definitely my favorite because it wasn’t obscure. i can’t remember, but i feel like there might be some name dropping 😂 the year of magical thinking is a great one! i haven’t read any kathy acker but she’s on my list for sure
I had such high Hope's for Parable of the Sower too, but it was a dnf for me. The topics and societal and politics commentary was great, but the story just wasn't able to draw me in.
