    Wow what a trip in time thankyou so much. Recently lost my dad and being fortunate enough to be raised on a dairy farm many years ago I was witness as a little boy to all the technology changes over The years from the sickle bar mower to dad owning a David Brown 995 until recently. was used just as I'm the video. I ended up driving a Class Jaguar 890 self propelled foragee for many years making silage. At 42 years old now You have gifted me with a treasure haul of long forgotton foggy memories of an amazing child hood with my dad on the farm. 🙏

    I remember making silage in 1953 where it was in a clamp in the ground and we had to cut it out with a silage knife - how things have changed

    Nice combination of Case-IH 844, NH 717 forager (when you only needed 80hp on the chopper) and 2wd John Deere leading trailers. Cumbrian reg plate (HH) on the Case so up in my neck of the woods!

    I remember when we were kids fishing by a river bridge at the bottom of a long steep hill and the smell of overheating brake as the little David Browns struggled to hold back their loads.No cabs and single axle trailers with galvanised sides ,the drivers always gave us a toot and a wave though.Great video,great memories.

    Such good Video it takes me back to the era I started properly for the Business. I remember the machines and how better in how Hardy they were compared to today's kit and would rate them in some respects to Today's machines! Was great video!

    Now it comes with so much stress and pressure.

    I have just in the past years of so been watching farming videos. I find it fascinating and inspiring. I respect all farmers and even though they work hard every day, I envy them. They are such an important part of the natural world.

    we did not even have machines to lift silage all done by pitch fork in to normal small trailers in the mid 70s that was hard work

    The UK lads love filling trailers on the right side, which is the wrong side, also that roll bar on the Matbro doesn’t offer much protection in a roll over.

    • @chriswilloughby5295

      There’s no wrong side just what side the harvester man prefers

    • @davidwinthrop7077
      @davidwinthrop7077 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Right-hand side always seemed the most logical to me. Forager controls, pick-up, spout and trailer all within your view! Also the Matbro doesn’t have a roll-bar to start with (is it the same one at the end?) but had it’s cab removed for working on the indoor clamp. We did the same with a MF 298, perfectly safe with dual rear wheels.

    This isn’t too far from how it’s done today near me. Efficient, occasionally dangerous, but feeds the herd through winter.

    The late 1970s we still use the corn binder silage rack to haul the bundles in and a silage cutter belt driven with an old WC Allis
