I was brought up Roman catholic, I was always seeking G-ds face, to know the real G-d, I ventured into many religions, Catholic,Protestant, Baptist, Considered Baha'i, and eventually ended up in a Messianic "Synagogue". I thought I found the answer! But on afternoon I was flipping the channels on TV and Shalom Rav was being sung by children ...I broke down into tears, flowing freely...I had found Hashem! Or He had found me...I am in process of conversion to Judaism now, I am 64 years old and crying while I write this with tears of joy..
We sang this last night at the Reform Chavurah at the Yale Hillel. Ditto Danielle Nay, I too fell in love with it. Never heard it before. I'm going back to the service every Friday night to help keep me going.
Perfect. Imagine my surprise, after learning this melody from Cantor Perryne Anker (also from Chicago) and many years of singing it with my congregation, to find it was co-written and "popularized" by my AZA brother, Jeffrey Klepper. Yasher Koach, my friend. And delighted to see the 12-string is still your "instrument of choice" 4 decades later! Marc Bachrach, Cantorial Soloist, Congregation B'nai Horin, Los Angeles
This is beautiful. I am not Jewish, I'm Christian actually, but in university I had the opportunity to go to synagogue with some of my classmates. We sang this song, and it was one of my favorites; when I got home I wrote down the title so I could remember it, then looked up the meaning of the Hebrew lyrics, but I have not heard the song since then. Thank you so much for posting this so I could hear the song in full. Wonderful words and lyrics, and great performance. Shalom :)
Linz031487 I'm Christian and attend Friday night Shabbat services at the Jewish Reform Temple who built the building where my church meets, They sold this building after building a new one, and this song was one of the first I learned and checked out the words. The next one would be Shalom Alecheim.
This is such a stunning version of Shalom Rav!!

The song was written on and for the guitar. It was a staple song at URJ Kutz camp in the late 70s and early 80s

Yes, the guy on the right, with the guitar, is Jeff Klepper. The other soloist Rabbi Dan Freelander, who wrote the melody together with Jeff.
Haunted me for many years
Camp Eisner in the 1970's
that guy had a great voice tov sholom
Here's the Shalom Rav video that we spoke about at Rosh Hashana. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Do you know that the guy on the right, with the guitar, is Jeff Klepper?
@lindaguitar Google "Seth Warner Shalom Rav."
Try "Shalom Rav Ben Steinberg."
