Still today Nawaz Noroz Khan is an eminent figure of Baloch resistance, who revolted against the State of Pakistan, when One Unit was introduced in 1955 whereby the four provinces of West Pakistan were merged into one homogenous unit, as a counterbalance against the numerical domination of the ethnic Bengalis of East Pakistan (now Bangladesh). This scheme was bitterly opposed by nationalists from Sindh, Balochistan and KPK and thousands of the people were arrested. Noroz Khan and his people took arms and battled in the field with military. He was persuaded for talks and then deceived and imprisoned in Hyderabad, where five of his comrades were executed but he was spared due to his old age. Later he was shifted to Kohlu Jail where he died in 1964. The resistance movement in Balochistan is still continuing. It is high time for the State of Pakistan to negotiate with Baloch leaders and find a lasting peace (Jalbani Baloch)
