I totally get your burnout. I am 34 this year, and I have been working for 11 years. Most of my career has been driven by people’s validation, and my parent validation. I tried everything while I was in Uni, and I knew what brought me the most joy but I chose another path that I think will bring me more “success” and validation from people around me. It did for a while. High pay, travelling for work, published work etc, but because it’s not really what I want to do or what makes me happy, I got super burnout now. It wasn’t easy for me to change career easily bcs job market is quite tough especially after Covid, and my mom is super dependent on me financially, so I dont have the privilege to be choosy too. Another factor to the burnout. 😢 I had the worst breakdown the other day and I decided that’s it, i am going to change this and going to be more intentional with my what I choose to be my career. Sorry for the long luahan hati. But I relate so much to what you’re feeling now. Good that you figured it out quite early. ❤

i could totally relate to your thoughts surrounding your parents’ approval. being the youngest daughter of strict parents, conforming to their mould of a “perfect daughter” is hard for me! everyday, but i acknowledge that they are trying their best and just want the best for me. sometimes when we follow what they say for too long, we forget how to think or decide for ourselves. and what’s worse is that there is no one else to blame except ourselves. finding our foot in this uncertainty is one hell of a struggle for us young adults, especially when many others started off on a better note knowing what they want. i wish you all the best trisyia, this is only the beginning and we got this!

From that moment, i realised i need to make my own decision and never blamed other people for the path that i choose. Makes me who i am today. Its okay trisya.. u got this ❤❤
I never been in your situation but i feel you trisyia. Just do your very best in current study and get the scroll. Then, you can outline what’s your passion, career and life goals and just do it! Sometimes i make decision without thinking much and my parents didn’t really approve it. But, i just go for it and ended up it’s the best decision of my life. Mind you it’s still a rough journey but it is what i want 🤭
i understand what you feel. i understand that you feel entitled to do decisions on your own, to do what you want to do. insyaAllah your parent decision is actually the best for you. it not a bad decision plus you got their blessing too. they not trying to put you in trouble by sending you abroad. they believe you can do it. that’s also called as harapan ibu bapa. im sure if one day when you become a parent, you will put a hope on certain things to your child. sometime the best solution is.. berdamai dengan takdir. cheerish every moments of it. i also did not really want to do engineering but alhamdulillah i cuba ikhlaskan and now im living good. being born in b40 family, i dont really have a choice . as long as i made them happy by becoming what they want me to be.
