ADDITIONAL UPDATE: For viewers watching these videos for the first time, this massive G.I.JOE collection no longer exists. Aire, the female collector in this series sold the vast majority of her G.I.JOE collection in 2014 to multiple individual collectors. The books that she references throughout the videos that she was trying to complete are sadly no longer going to be published. So please consider this 18 episode series as a visual record of one of the most impressive G.I.JOE collections ever assembled.
Collectable Spectacle is an eighteen-part documentary series showcasing Aire's action figure collection. (She is known online by other collectors as “Airedevon”)
A special thank you to Aire for opening up her home and allowing me to film her collection. Aire loves toys and the joy those toys bring to children and adults alike. Here she shares her deep knowledge of multiple toy lines and in particular her vast knowledge of domestic and international G.I.JOE variations.
Episode Breakdown:
Episode 1: Aire unpacks one of her closets filled with vintage 12" G.I.JOE figures and sets them up in the kitchen to talk about them.
Episodes 2 - 3: Aire gives an example of how to repair 12" G.I.JOE figures and talks more about her 12" figure collection.
Episode 4: Aire continues her talk of 12" figures and then discusses her printed media collection of 3¾" figure material.
Episode 5: Aire finishes up her printed media collection and shows some of her audio/video collection pertaining to G.I.JOE. Aire also discusses the books she has been working on. In the last part of the episode she puts together a rare Nilco (Egypt) G.I.JOE Vamp vehicle.
Episode 6: Aire sets up and displays her vintage 3¾", domestic G.I.JOE vehicles and discusses them.
Episodes 7 - 9: Aire hosts a local G.I.JOE collectors club get-together and takes some of her guests on a quick tour through her house.
Episode 10: Having emptied another closet, Aire explores a vast array of storage bins to show samples of toy lines from the past 30 years.
Episodes 11 - 12: Continuing through bins removed from the closet, Aire goes through storage boxes containing MOC G.I.JOE figures from North America and around the world.
Episodes 13 - 14: Aire shows some of the contents of her display bins in the "Toybrary" that contain loose G.I.JOE figures from North America and around the world.
Episodes 15 - 17: Aire continues through her "Toybrary" and discusses an endless assortment of action figure toy lines, other than G.I.JOE, from the years 1975-2000. She also discusses some international G.I.JOE vehicles and her Gobots collection.
Episode 18: Aire pulls out some items from another closet and shows some rare international G.I.JOE vehicles. She then provides some closing thoughts on the struggles of collecting and working on her book project.
