Have you ever seen "purple stuff" used in different snacks or foods in the Philippines? Well it is called "Ube" and you can use it in a lot of different ways! This is just a simple video of me learning to make Ube Turon with my friend Bado in Nazareth, Cagayan de Oro.

YES! Ive been so curious while traveling though the Philippines about ube! It's so good!!
It's a purple variety of _Dioscorea alata_, if you want the actual species. They have also naturalized in the US from escaped cultivated plants, but usually only the white variety from Oceania.

Turon with halaya or ube isnt common in the PH. First time I tried it was in Baguio, I was blown away!! Best turon I've had in my life!! =)

saba banana,ube my fav but here in Canada we buy it frozen saba in oriental store and its like 5 frozen saba in a bag for $3.00,(P100.00) plus ube $3.99 /lbs so kind of expensive ,i only make turon for special occasions and everyone loves it..its addictive.
It is purple yam or taro. It's popular among Asians. Here in Canada, Asian stores are selling taro smoothie. So popular among Koreans, Chinese, Filipinos. You should try it when you visit BC. :)

Ube is a true yam. That said, purple sweet potatoes also exist in the Philippines, but it's a completely different plant.

Ube, oh my God! that is my favorite food to eat. Do you know Kulas, if you drop the Ube, you have to kiss it after picking it up from the ground. Ube is very rare plant. It's not found everywhere in the Philippines.
