Definitely remember watching this as a kid...also, Doug & Betty had previously appeared (along with Betty's 3 sisters) on Family Feud back in 1981.
My grandmother and I used to watch this show together. Man, does it bring back a lot of memories!

In the final round, it took entirely too long for the answers to be revealed, once the contestants guessed the correct answers. Totally not fair.
Am I correct in suggesting that the cash audiences see is a mere prop?
This show used to play over and over again on Sunday afternoons on a Philippine network for many years.
My mom used to say that any show where they show them handing out money - it’s pretend money just to get oohs and oohs from the studio audience and tv audience. They did get the real money later (maybe in the form of a check)

Mark was too inexperienced for this announcing job, so they gave it to Johnny Gilbert, who was announcing "The $25,000 Pyramid," and of course, "Jeopardy!"
Am I the only one who would love to see a revival of this show in primetime. Here is how I would do it Main Game, Round 1- $50 per correct answer, Round 2- $100 per correct answer, Round 3- $200 per correct answer, winner goes to the bonus round. Bonus Round pick from one of 3 categories, 60 seconds to get 6, and it takes 5 games to play for $1,000,000. After Game 1- You Can Take $50,000 and leave (or $1,000 per correct if you don't get all six) (note winnings from main game aren't touched, you risk losing the money in the bonus round. After Game 2- $100,000 and leave ( or $2,000 per correct if you don't get all six) After Game 3- $250,000 and leave ( or $5,000 per correct if you don't get all six) After Game 4- $500,000 and leave ( or $25,000 per correct if you don't get all six) After Game 5- $1,000,000 ( if you don't get all six you leave with $50,000 per correct answer and any money won in the main game) . I miss this show and if I had people to play board games with , I'd try to purchase the home game

My goodness, the board op wastes an incredible amount of time advancing to the next word in the bonus round.... Contestant says "ICED TEA" and five whole seconds tick by before they bother loading up the next one -- then four full seconds go by after "LEMONADE" waiting for the next.. if the buzzer got 'em (which it almost did!), they'd have a good case to bitch to S&P ;)
I noticed the same thing.
That was fixed in the second season.

Having the "E" being the "stinger", as was the case in the first puzzle, is what I call a trap, since that's the most used letter in the alphabet. Of all the letters, probably the "E" and the "S" would be the ones least likely not to be in a puzzle. So it's only natural that the contestant fell into that trap at 4:48.
Jim Lange was totally wrong for this; Regis Philbin, Jim Perry or Peter Marshall would've done this show justice and made it a big success
Mark is this announcer's first name. His last name was never revealed or figured out 30 years later. It's not Marc SUmmers or DJ Mark Driscoll who announced the first month of Now You See It 1989. The prize was $40K a year for 25 years in season one, season two had about $100K and prizes and $900K in cash in an annuity of some kind(probably $40K a year for 22 or 23 as the prize package was worth about $100K). The last of the annuities would have been paid out by 2010 or 2011. Jim Lange's comment about teachers in space is eerie given what happened 22 days after this episode's original airing on 1/6/86.

Jim Lange only mentions him by his first name, Mark. I don't know his last name. Haven't put the time in to research his full name.
I read somewhere that it was Marc Summers, but that's clearly false.
