Very glad you put this out. I was struggling with handle design tonight on a heavy chopper, and this video absolutely set my thought process straight. Thank you!
Another excellent discussion, well done and thank you. I now have a very much clearer understanding into the complex subject and will definitely help in the future. Keep up the good work. Cheers from Tassie
@@SamTownsBladesmith Thanks I was just wondering if a distal taper could be ground in / put in with a grinder. I have only done stock removal in the knives I made and will be starting blacksmithing soon.
btw i barely understand curved throughtangs, how the hell does this work out? how does one get a curved hole into the handle? drlling 2 holes at an angle?
>form follows function ever soon a Cinqueda? joke aside i think a knife is not always mainly a tool. some knifes are primarily display pieces, and the highest art is still to combine both usefullness and looks.
@@SamTownsBladesmith i watched it, but the comment was before there you are right, had to make the joke tho :D because it seems so extremely impractical
Much easier to see than to learn the hard way! Thanks for the info and the video, Sam!!!!!
Another great chalk talk. Thank you.

Really useful info, thanks! Perfect timing too as I just started working on the handle for my Bowie today! Cheers Sam, hope you're well :)

Comfortbiloty that's a unique word. I think initially I've do handles that fit my skill set and skill level.
No matter your skillset your handles should always be comfortable!
Great video as always. I just have a few questions regarding distal taper (can't seem to find your video covering it). Thanks
Hey mate, just realised I didn't really cover it in depth in the blade design video, what did you need to know?

@@rifleman7313 it absolutely can! When flat grinding knives you can naturally put in distal taper by just grinding at a slight angle
reporting in!

Would have to be a left and right shell!
Two angle holes broached to a curve is the usual, but as Paul said a mortise or frame handle could also be used.

ever soon a Cinqueda?
joke aside

You obviously didn't watch the video, because I made that exact point...
